In this week’s Arlington County crime report, two men are accused of particularly vicious instances of domestic violence. Both alleged crimes took place yesterday (Tuesday) while in public.
At 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, a man is accused of holding down a woman and threatening her in Crystal City, before a Good Samaritan intervened.
ABDUCTION/ASSAULT & BATTERY, 03/13/12, 2600 block of Jefferson Davis Highway. On March 13 at 11:50 am, a male subject and a known female victim were involved in a verbal argument. When the female attempted to flee the scene on foot, the male subject knocked her to the ground and threatened her while holding her around the neck to the ground. A witness came to assistance of the victim, recovered a knife from the subject and police arrived a short time later. James Curtis, 43, of Washington, DC, was charged with domestic assault and battery and abduction. Curtis was held without bail.
Later that day, a man was accused of breaking a car window and trying to pull a woman through the broken window, before she was able to drive away and lead him on a car chase that ended at a fire station.
ATTEMPTED MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 03/13/12, 1900 block of S. Walter Reed Drive. At approximately 8:10 pm on March 13, a victim was involved in a verbal argument with a known subject when the subject punched her vehicle window out and attempted to pull her from the vehicle. The victim was able to drive away but the subject followed her, striking her vehicle several times with his vehicle. The victim was able to stop at a local fire station and the suspect fled. Officers apprehended him a short distance away. Michael Hallmon, 50, of Arlington, was charged with attempted malicious wounding, felony hit and run, domestic assault, driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a breath test and possession of marijuana. He is being held without bond.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING (SHOOTING), 03/09/12, 4200 block of N. 2nd Road. At approximately 7:45 pm on March 9, an unknown suspect approached a Hispanic male and demanded money. When the victim did not comply with his demands, the suspect shot the victim twice. The victim suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen and right knee. The suspect fled the scene on foot and has yet to be identified. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’5″-5’8″ tall, and was wearing a black ski mask and all black clothing at the time of the shooting.
MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 03/11/12, 2100 block of N. Key Boulevard. On March 11 at 11:15 pm, a known subject hit a man in the face with an iron after a verbal argument, causing a deep laceration. Jeannae Johnson, 27, of Arlington, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding. She was held without bond.
ARMED ROBBERY, 03/11/12, 5500 block of S. Columbia Pike. On March 11 at 1:45 pm, a unknown subject grabbed $20 out of a victim’s wallet at the front counter of a convenience store. When the victim followed the subject on foot, the subject brandished a knife and made threatening remarks. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’4″ tall, weighing 160 lbs, with shoulder length brown hair.
ARMED ROBBERY, 03/11/12, 1100 block of S. George Mason Drive. At approximately 3:40 pm, a worker walked into the back office of a convenience store and found a unknown subject cutting a locked cabinet with bolt cutters. The suspect brandished a knife and fled the scene with two stolen cartons of cigarettes. The suspect is described as a white male, between 18-24 years of age, approximately 5’11” tall, with a medium build and blonde hair. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing a green shirt and blue jeans.
ARMED ROBBERY, 03/10/12, 4600 block of N. Fairfax Drive. A man reported an armed robbery the next morning after meeting a woman at a local bar and returning to her residence. Once inside her home, an unknown subject entered the home and brandished a firearm. Among items taken from the victim was jewelry and cash. The victim fled the scene on foot and could not remember the location when reporting the incident to police. There is no suspect description.
BURGLARY, 03/08/12, 100 block of S. Old Glebe Road. Between 3:30 pm on March 7, and 7 am on March 8, an unknown subject entered a school trailer by forcing open a window and stole a laptop, microscope and keys. There is no suspect description.
LARCENY FROM AUTO (SERIES), 03/10/12, 1400 block of N. Taft Street. Between 8:30 pm on March 9, and 8 am on March 10, an unknown subject(s) broke into numerous vehicles in the surrounding area by smashing passenger side windows. Various items were stolen to include iPods, GPS devices and money. There is no suspect description.
DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY (SERIES), 03/11/12, 30 block of S. Glebe Road. Between 9 pm on March 10, and 10 am on March 11, an unknown subject super glued the front door locks of six businesses. There is no suspect description.
