Crime Report: Man Threatens Mall Security With Knife

In this week’s Arlington County crime report, a man allegedly stole items from a store in the Pentagon City mall, then threatened a security officer with a knife when confronted.

ROBBERY, 06/09/12, 1100 block of S. Hayes Street. On June 9 at 7:45 pm, a subject stole merchandise from a store at the mall and when approached by the loss prevention officer, he fled the scene on foot. After being followed by the loss prevention officer, he threatened him with a knife. Police apprehended the subject a short time later in the mall parking garage. Lonnell Andre Buford, 40, of Washington, DC, was arrested and charged with robbery and possession of burglarious tools. He was held without bond.

ROBBERY BY FORCE, 06/09/12, 900 block of N. Jackson Street. Between 1:30 and 2:30 am on June 9, a male victim waiting for a taxi was assaulted by four suspects, robbed of $130 cash and his car was stolen. The suspects were described as Hispanic males, approximately 25-30 years old, between 5’8″-6′ tall, with muscular builds.

BRANDISHING A FIREARM, 06/07/12, 2600 block of S. Glebe Road. At 7:30 pm on June 7, a suspect brandished what was believed to be a firearm during a verbal altercation while driving southbound on Glebe Road. The victim reported the license plate number to police immediately and the suspect was taken into custody a short time later. A bb gun was in the suspects possession. Juan Smith Oronao, 20, of Arlington, VA, was arrested and charged with brandishing a firearm. He was held on a secured bond.

BURGLARY, 06/10/12, 1600 block of N. Glebe Road. Between 10:30 pm on June 9 and 8 am on June 10, an unknown subject(s) forced entry through a rear door of a residence and stole a laptop. There is no suspect description.

BURGLARY, 06/10/12, 1100 block of N. Wilson Boulevard. On June 10 at 4:44 am, an unknown subject broke the glass of the front door to a store and stole 20 cartons of Newport cigarettes. Surveillance video captured a black male, approximately 5’11” tall, 180 lbs breaking the glass with a U-lock bicycle lock. He was wearing a blue long sleeve shirt, black shorts, black tennis shoes, a bicycle helmet and dark sunglasses at the time of the incident.

BURGLARY, 06/08/12, 2000 block of S. Glebe Road. Between 8:30 am and 1 pm on June 8, an unknown subject(s) entered a residence through a window and stole a Nikon camera lens. There is no suspect description.

BURGLARY, 06/07/12, 6900 block of N. Fairfax Drive. Between 12 and 1:30 pm, an unknown subject(s) forced entry a residence through a window and stole various items to include jewelry and a laptop. There is no suspect description.
