Crime Report: Kids Whack Mom’s Attacker with Bat

(Updated at 2:30 p.m. on 12/23/21) When a verbal argument led to a malicious physical attack in the Nauck neighborhood Tuesday evening, according to police, the victim’s kids stepped in and began attacking the alleged attacker.

The incident took place just past 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, on the 2400 block of S. Lowell Street. Two neighbors who “have a long, combative history,” got into a verbal argument “that escalated” when one of them pulled out a baseball bat, Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

According to Sternbeck, 27-year-old Kendra [Redacted] struck her neighbor in the head with the baseball bat, at which point two of the victim’s children — both under 10 years of age — managed to take the bat away and started striking [Redacted] with it.

[Redacted] and the victim were both found by officers lying on the ground, injured, among a crowd of about eight neighborhood children. No other adults were present, Stenbeck said.

The two women were taken to hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries. From the crime report:

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 140506050, 2400 block of S. Lowell Street. At 6:06 pm on May 6, a female subject struck her neighbor in the head with a baseball bat following a verbal altercation. The victim’s young children disarmed the subject of the bat and began striking her with it. Police arrived on scene to find both women lying on the ground with injuries. Both were transported to the hospital. Kendra [Redacted], 27, of Arlington, VA was arrested and charged with malicious wounding following her release from the hospital. She was held on a secure bond.

ARMED ROBBERY, 140503004, 1000 block of S. Frederick Street. At approximately 11:11 pm on May 2, an unknown subject allegedly robbed a female victim at gunpoint of her iPhone and cash. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’7″ tall with a thin build. He was wearing black clothing with a blue hat and a red bandana covering his face.

ROBBERY, 140503064, 1900 block of S. Jefferson Davis Highway. At 8:42 pm on May 3, a female victim had her purse snatched in a hotel lobby by an unknown subject. Hotel security cameras captured the incident. The suspect is a black male in his 20s, approximately 5’6″ tall and 135 lbs. He was wearing khaki pants, a red t-shirt with a black jacket and a black beanie during the incident.

ROBBERY, 140502011, 500 block of S. Eads Street. A victim reported that on April 28 at 9:30 am he was assaulted and robbed of his wallet and passport. The suspect is described as a black male in his 40s and 180 lbs. He was wearing a white jacket with grey pants during the incident.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 140506008, 3100 block of N. Clarendon Boulevard. At 1:12 am on May 6, an extremely intoxicated 27 year-old male was kicked out of Mad Rose Tavern and got into an altercation with two subjects in an adjacent courtyard. The victim was stabbed in the chest during the altercation and was transported to GW Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Suspect one is described as a black male, approximately 5’10” tall and was wearing a red button-down shirt with square patterns. Suspect two is described as a white male, approximately 5’8″ tall with a medium build. He was wearing a black t-shirt.

ABDUCTION WITH INTENT TO DEFILE, 140504032, 3400 block of S. Utah Street. At approximately 6am on May 4, an unknown subject forcefully pulled a female victim into his vehicle and assaulted her. She was able to fight off her attacker and run to safety. The suspect fled the scene in a white four door sedan. He is described as a white male in his 40s, with brown hair and a goatee.

INDECENT EXPOSURE, 140506061, 4600 block of N. Fairfax Drive. At 8:01 pm on May 6, a victim witnessed a male subject expose himself and urinate on the sidewalk in front of an office building. The suspect is described as a black male in his 40s, approximately 6’0″ tall and 240 lbs. He was wearing blue jeans, a dark short sleeve shirt and black Adidas shoes.

BRANDISHING, 140501062, 3200 block of S. 24^th Street. At 8:30 pm on May 1, an unknown subject allegedly brandished a firearm and made threatening remarks to a male victim. The subject fled the scene in a vehicle after a witness called police. The suspect is described as a black male in his 40s, approximately 5’10” tall and 240 lbs. He was wearing khaki pants and a sweater with vertical stripes at the time of the incident.

BURGLARY, 140430009, 3000 block of N. Clarendon Boulevard. At 7:45 am on April 30, an unknown subject stole several bottles of wine from a restaurant. An employee confronted him and he fled the scene on foot. The suspect is described as a black male in his 20’s, approximately 5’2″ tall with a medium build. He was wearing a green and black jacket with tan pants and concealed the wine in a blue backpack.

BURGLARY, 140430037, 5300 block of N. 2^nd Street. Between 8 am and 4:30 pm on April 30, an unknown subject(s) entered a residence and stole numerous items to include electronics and cash. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY, 140504120, 4400 block of N. 7^th Street. Between 2 am and 7 am on May 1, an unknown subject(s) entered a residence and stole various items to include electronics and cash.. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY, 140503061, 700 block of S. 26^th Street. Between 3:10 pm and 6:44 pm on May 4, an unknown subject(s) smashed the glass of a read door to gain entry to residence and stole jewelry. There is no suspect(s) description.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY (SERIES), 140504023, 1800 block of N. Lexington Street. Between 3:45 am and 4:30 am, two subjects used pistol style BB guns to shoot out the windows of 85 vehicles. A neighbor that witnessed the destruction contacted police and the suspect vehicle was located. Antonio [Redacted], 19, of Arlington, VA and Christopher [Redacted], 20, of Arlington, VA were arrested and charged with numerous counts of destruction of property. They were held on a secure bond.
