A man’s hand was slashed Monday night, in what was originally reported to be an accident but may have been the result of a fight.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. Monday in a restaurant on the 500 block of 23rd Street S., in Crystal City. Police and medics responded, but were told that an accident caused the injury.
The next morning, police were called again and told that the injury was the result of an assault, not an accident.
Two restaurant employees “were involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical,” said Arlington County Police spokeswoman Ashley Savage. “The victim was washing a knife at the time of the altercation and suffered a laceration to the hand which required medical treatment.”

LATE MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 160823025, 500 block of S. 23rd Street. At approximately 10:11 a.m. on August 23, officers responded to the report of a late assault with a weapon. Upon investigation, officers determined that the incident occurred the night prior when a male victim suffered a laceration to the hand following a verbal altercation. Police and medics had previously responded to the location on August 22 at approximately 10:00 p.m. but the incident was reported as an accident requiring medical attention. The victim was transported by medics to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

ROBBERY, 160823011, 2700 block of N. Wilson Boulevard. At approximately 1:30 a.m. on August 23, officers responded to the report of an assault that had just occurred. Upon investigation, it was determined that following a verbal altercation between parties, a male victim was assaulted. The suspect then fled the scene with the victim’s belongings. The investigation is ongoing.
LATE COMMERCIAL BURGLARY, 160822018, 5100 block of S. Columbia Pike. Between 3:30 p.m. on August 19 and 7:00 a.m. on August 22, an unknown subject(s) entered a building and stole numerous items of value. There is no suspect(s) description.
LATE SEXUAL BATTERY, 160819032, 2700 block of N. Washington Boulevard. At approximately 11:40 p.m. on August 18, an unknown male subject approached a female victim from behind, grabbing her buttocks and right arm. The suspect then fled the scene. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’11” tall. He was wearing a black hat, black shirt with gold, dark jeans, and tennis shoes.
EXPOSURE, 160819020, 4600 block of N. 24th Street. At approximately 10:40 a.m. on August 19, two juvenile female victims walking in the area witnessed a male subject exposing himself inside of a vehicle. The male is described as a white male with brown hair. He was wearing a gray hoodie and driving a silver 4-door sedan.
BURGLARY, 160819021, 4800 block of S. Columbia Pike. Between 12:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on August 19, an unknown subject forced entry into a business and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. A business next door was also burglarized and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen. The investigation is ongoing.
BURGLARY, 160820017, 2600 block of S. Arlington Mill Drive. Between 3:00 p.m. on August 19 and 7:00 a.m. on August 20, police responded to the report of a late breaking and entering and grand larceny auto. The female victim awoke to find her personal belongings and her vehicle stolen. Police located the vehicle shortly after. The investigation is ongoing.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY, 160820019, 3000 block of S. Abingdon Street. Between 10:00 p.m. on August 19 and 8:30 a.m. on August 20, an unknown subject(s) forced entry into a building and stole numerous items of value. There is no suspect(s) description.
LARCENY FROM AUTO (series), 160818009, 600 block of N. Harrison Street. Between 12:00 p.m. on August 17 and 10: 30 a.m. on August 18, an unknown subject(s) entered at least 7 vehicles in a several block radius and stole items of value. There is no suspect(s) description.
