Crime Report: Driver Flashes Gun After Getting Cut Off

Police car (file photo)A 52-year-old Arlington man is facing charges after police say he got mad and brandished a gun at a driver who tried to merge into his lane.

The road rage incident happened around 9 p.m. on Wilson Blvd in Rosslyn. The man was later located by police and arrested.

From an Arlington County Police Department crime report:

BRANDISHING, 160902041, 1300 block N. Wilson. At approximately 9:07 p.m. on September 2, a male suspect brandished a firearm after the victim attempted to merge his vehicle into the same lane as the suspect. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival but was later located and positively identified by witnesses. Sergio Martinez, 52, of Arlington VA was arrested and charged with brandishing a firearm. He was held on a $5,000 secure bond.

POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE (Significant), 160903019, 3500 block of I-66. At approximately 9:56 a.m. on September 3, an officer stopped two pedestrians walking on WB I-66. The pedestrians advised they were walking to their disabled vehicle located on WB I-66 near the Rosslyn Tunnel. An officer located the disabled vehicles which contained buckets and milk jugs of unknown chemicals. Arlington County Fire Department’s Hazmat team responded to the scene and ultimately determined the chemicals to be non-hazardous. Angela Hartley, 29, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (x2) and possession of paraphernalia and held on a $2,000 secured bond. Gary Smith, 37, of Elkins WV was charged with possession of a controlled substance and held on a $2,000 secured bond.

BURGLARY, 160831053, 2000 block of S. Glebe Road. Between 9:30 a.m. and 6:10 p.m. on August 31, an unknown subject(s) forced entry into a residence and stole several items of value. There is no suspect(s) description.

ARMED ROBBERY, 10906014, 1800 block of N. Ft. Myer Drive. At approximately 11:01 a.m. on September 6, an unknown male subject approached a clerk at a gas station, implied he had a weapon and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise. The subject fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival. The subject is described as a black male with a black beard, wearing a red shirt, black shorts, a black hat, black shoes and black glasses.

PEEPING TOM, 160907003, 5100 block of S. 10th Street. At approximately 12:45 a.m. on September 7, a female victim heard knocking on her window and observed an unknown male subject walking away. There is no suspect description. The investigation is ongoing.
