This week’s Arlington Pet of the Week is Theodore Roosevelt Gill or “Teddy,” an all-black Pomeranian who love plying tug-of-war, cuddling and chewing on rawhide bones.
Here is what Teddy’s owners, Christy and David, had to say about him:
Theodore Roosevelt Gill usually just responds to Teddy, though he knows he’s in trouble with Mom if she uses his full name. Like his parents, Teddy hails from Southern California, where they adopted him as a stray in 2010. Teddy’s parents are pretty sure he’s a full Pomeranian (and a rarity as an all black fluff ball), but occasionally speculate about how much bear may actually be in him.
Teddy loves a good park visit and is certainly a rough rider, though his similarities to his namesake may end there. Unlike President Roosevelt, this Teddy tends to bark quite loudly and often and prefers small, rawhide bones to sticks. Though he is fiercely loyal and ready to challenge any of the numerous Arlington runners and bikers to a bark-off, particularly if they dare appear to be faster than his mom.
Teddy loves to snuggle between bent knees and will sprint to the bed for an afternoon nap with his mom. He loves to play tug-of-war but does not understand why his canine pals will chase tennis balls back and forth at the park. Well aware of his good looks, Teddy uses them to gain admirers throughout South Arlington. He particularly loves tiny humans that sit at the same height as him while they babble together on the floor. Feel free to say “Hi” if you see Teddy around Penrose. But don’t invite him into the fountain–that messes up his hair!
