Arlington County Police are looking for three men who they believe teamed up to assault a man near a Clarendon dog park early Sunday morning.
Police say a man was walking along N. Herndon Street at its intersection with 13th Street N. early Sunday morning (May 6) near the James Hunter Dog Park, when “three slim, light-skinned South Asian” men accosted him because they believed he was attempting to break into their car, according to a crime report.
One of the three men “grabbed an object the victim was carrying and threw it at him, causing a laceration,” police say. Spokeswoman Ashley Savage told ARLnow that the police department’s homicide/robbery unit is investigating the incident as a “malicious wounding by mob,” and is still searching for the suspects.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2018-05060043, N. Herndon Street at 13th Street N. At approximately 2:13 a.m. on May 6, police were dispatched to the report of an unknown situation. Upon arrival, it was determined that the male victim was walking in the area attempting to locate his vehicle, when three unknown male suspects approached the victim and accused him of attempting to break into their vehicle, which the victim was standing near. The victim walked away from the vehicle and the suspects continued yelling profanities at him. One suspect then grabbed an object the victim was carrying and threw it at him, causing a laceration. The three suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival. The suspects are described as three slim, light-skinned South Asian, possibly Indian males, all in their mid 20’s with black hair. One suspect was wearing a black tank top. The vehicle is described as a dark gray or black Toyota Prius, possibly with Maryland license plates. Arriving officers canvassed the area with negative results. The investigation is ongoing.
The incident was one of three “malicious woundings” reported on May 6.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING (late), 2018-05060067, 3600 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 4:20 a.m. on May 6, police were dispatched to Alexandria Hospital for the late report of a possible stabbing. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim and his friends were outside their vehicle in a parking lot when another vehicle slowed down beside them and one, possibly known, occupant threw an object at the victim, causing lacerations. The suspect vehicle then fled the area. The investigation is ongoing.
MALICIOUS WOUNDING (late), 2018-05060146, 5500 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 2:58 p.m. on May 6, police were dispatched to Virginia Hospital Center for the late report of a malicious wounding. Upon arrival it was determined that a verbal altercation between known individuals escalated to physical violence, resulting in the victim suffering a laceration to the shoulder. A warrant for unlawful wounding was obtained for the suspect.
BURGLARY, 2018-05060072, 400 block of Army Navy Drive. At approximately 5:19 a.m. on May 6, police were dispatched to the report of a larceny in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined that a white van was observed on the property of a construction site and two suspects were seen exiting the building with construction materials and placing them into the van. Arriving officers recognized one suspect as possibly being related to other recent commercial burglaries and established a perimeter. After brief foot pursuits, both suspects were taken into custody without incident. Calvin Smith, 33, of Washington, D.C., was arrested and charged with Burglary, Possession of Burglarous Tools, Grand Larceny and Felony Destruction of Property. He was held on no bond. Parnell Hawkins, 33, of Washington, D.C., was arrested and charged with Burglary, Possession of Burglarous Tools, Grand Larceny and Felony Destruction of Property. He was held on no bond.
ROBBERY, 2018-05060147, 1201 S. Hayes Street. At approximately 3:00 p.m. on May 6, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined that an employee confronted three suspects allegedly known to steal merchandise from the business. Upon approaching the suspects, they became verbally combative towards the employee and made threats while displaying a canister consistent with pepper spray. The suspects then fled the scene with the concealed merchandise. No injuries were reported. Suspect One is described as a black female, approximately 17-25 years old with long black hair. She was described as wearing light colored blue jeans and a white long-sleeved shirt. Suspect Two is described as a black male, approximately 17-25 years old with short black hair. He was described as wearing a multicolor hoodie with blue jeans, sneakers and wearing a backpack. Suspect Three is described as a black male, approximately 17-25 years old. He was wearing a dark hoodie, blue jeans, a dark baseball hat and a backpack. The investigation is ongoing.
ASSAULT & BATTERY (Significant), 2018-05060044, 3100 block of Clarendon Boulevard. At approximately 2:21 a.m. on May 6, officers assigned to the Clarendon Detail observed a large crowd and loud noise inside a business. Upon investigation, it was determined that a customer became irate over the quality of service provided by the business and went behind the service counter. After being escorted back to the customer area, the suspect returned to the area behind the counter and struck one employee in the head. Additional employees came to the aid of the victim, resulting in a physical altercation and a second suspect then struck an aiding employee in the neck. Warrants for Assault and Battery and Disorderly Conduct were issued for the two suspects.
INDECENT EXPOSURE, 2018-05060211, 1900 block of Clarendon Boulevard. At approximately 10:25 p.m. on May 6, police were dispatched to the report of a possible exposure. The witness described the individual as a possible black male wearing a dark hoodie. No additional information was provided by the witness regarding the incident. Upon arrival, officers established a perimeter and canvased the area with negative results. The investigation is ongoing.
INDECENT EXPOSURE, 2018-05060226, 1200 block of N. Meade Street. At approximately 11:20 p.m. on May 6, police were dispatched to the report of a possible exposure. Upon arrival, it was determined that the female victim was inside her parked vehicle when she observed an unknown male suspect approach her vehicle. Once in front of her vehicle, the suspect exposed himself and began masturbating. The victim then drove away. The suspect is described as a male, approximately 6’0″ tall and weighing 165 pounds. He was wearing a hoodie with the hood pulled tight around his face at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
SEXUAL BATTERY, 2018-05060092, 1700 block of N. George Mason Drive. At approximately 9:57 a.m. on May 6, police were dispatched to the report of an assault that had just occurred. Upon arrival, it was determined that while inside a care center, the male suspect approached the female victim from behind, grabbed her waist and began to thrust against her. The victim demanded the suspect to stop and when he refused, she dropped to the floor. Security then arrived on scene and detained the suspect until police arrived. Tebebe Tessema Makonnen, 26, of No Fixed Address was arrested and charged with Sexual Battery. He was held on no bond.
UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 2018-05050076, 1400 block of S. Eads Street. At approximately 8:21 a.m. on May 5, police were dispatched to the late report of a burglary. Upon arrival, it was determined that at approximately 3:56 a.m., an unknown suspect entered a business. Nothing was reported or damaged. The suspect is described as a white female, between 20 and 30 years old. The investigation is ongoing.
MISSILE INTO OCCUPIED VEHICLE, 2018-05060141, 12th Street S. at S. Hayes Street. At approximately 2:30 p.m. on May 6, police were dispatched to the report of an assault. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim was waiting in a line of traffic to make a left turn when the driver of a vehicle behind him began honking their horn. After making a left turn, the victim then slowed down to allow a pedestrian to cross in a marked crosswalk. The suspect vehicle then pulled up next to the victim’s vehicle and the suspect threw a bottle at the victim’s vehicle, causing liquid to splash on the victim and the exterior of the vehicle. The victim was uninjured. The suspect vehicle fled the scene prior to police arrival. The driver of the suspect vehicle is described as a black female, approximately 20-30 years old. The passenger of the vehicle is described as a black male, approximately 20-30 years old. The suspect vehicle is described as a black sedan with Virginia license plates. The investigation is ongoing.
