Crime Report: Car Theft Suspect Crashes Through Brick Wall in Crystal City

Someone tried to steal a car but ended up crashing through a brick wall in Crystal City yesterday evening, according to police.

The incident happened in a parking garage on the 2700 block of Jefferson Davis Highway, according to this week’s Arlington County Police Department crime report. That block includes an office building and a large hotel.

Warrants have been issued for the suspect, police say, but as of Wednesday morning there have been no reports of any arrests.

GRAND LARCENY (Significant), 2018-10300199, 2700 block of Jefferson Davis Highway. At approximately 5:47 p.m. on October 30, police responded to the report of a hit and run. Upon arrival, it was determined that the suspect allegedly rummaged through vehicles in a parking garage, stole a vehicle, crashed through a brick wall and struck an occupied vehicle before fleeing the scene. During the investigation, officers developed suspect information and obtained warrants for Grand Larceny Auto, Larceny from Auto, Felony Hit and Run, Driving DUI Revoked, Felony Destruction of Property and Misdemeanor Destruction of Property. The investigation is ongoing.

Last week, a 29-year-old Arlington man was arrested after police say he broke into an apartment in the Rosslyn area and fell asleep. The resident woke up, found the man and called police.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 2018-10260087, 1700 block of Clarendon Boulevard. At approximately 10:09 a.m. on October 26, police were dispatched to the report of an unlawful entry. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim awoke to find an unknown male suspect asleep inside her residence. Arriving officers located the suspect and took him into custody without incident. Andrew Leonard, 29, of Arlington, Va., was arrested and charged with Unlawful Entry.

PEEPING, 2018-10300007, 400 block of N. Edgewood Street. At approximately 12:31 a.m. on October 30, police were dispatched to the report of a suspicious person. Upon arrival, it was determined that a witness observed a suspect allegedly peering through windows of a neighboring residence. Arriving officers established a perimeter, located a suspect matching the description provided by the witness and took him into custody without incident. Stephen Polestak, 48, of Arlington, VA was arrested and charged with Peeping. He was held on a secure bond.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 2018-10300105, 1900 block of N. George Mason Drive. At approximately 10:41 a.m. on October 30, police were dispatched to the report of a possible breaking and entering in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim was inside her residence when she heard knocking at the front door. The victim narrowly opened the door and the suspect allegedly began to push it open in an attempt to gain entry. The victim was able to use her strength to close the door and then contacted police. Arriving officers located the suspect in the victim’s yard and took him into custody. The suspect was transported to Virginia Hospital Center for medical evaluation. Warrants for Unlawful Entry, Drunk in Public, Public Urination and Possession of Alcohol by Interdicted Person were obtained for Shamsuddin Abbamin, 25, of Arlington, VA.

RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE, 2018-10260275, 200 block of S. Glebe Road. At approximately 11:40 p.m. on October 26, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery by force. Upon arrival, it was determined that the male suspect entered a business twice prior and purchased merchandise, before exiting and returning to his vehicle outside. He returned a third time, began causing a disturbance inside the business, damaging displays, and took merchandise and coins and placed them into his pockets. The suspect then went behind the counter and attempted to steal contents from a drawer, however, arriving officers were able to stop the suspect and took him into custody without incident. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the vehicle the suspect was operating was previously reported stolen out of Arlington County. Saadiq Muhammad, 23, of Washington, D.C. was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny: Motor Vehicle Theft, Petit Larceny, and Destruction of Property.

BURGLARY, 2018-10280043, 900 block of N. Wayne Street. At approximately 1:58 a.m. on October 28, police were dispatched to the report of suspicious circumstances. Upon arrival, it was determined that following a dispute that took place earlier in the evening between the victim and a known suspect, the suspect forced entry to the victim’s residence and stole items of value. Stephen Miller, 35, of Hatfield, Pa., was arrested and charged with Burglary and Destruction of Property.

LARCENY, 2018-10260205, 4300 block of Old Dominion Drive. At approximately 7:02 p.m. on October 26, police were dispatched to the late report of a larceny from auto. Upon arrival, it was determined that between October 21 and October 24, an unknown suspect(s) stole the tires and rims off of a vehicle. There is no suspect description. The investigation is ongoing.

LARCENY FROM AUTO (x2), 2018-10250042/10250052, 4300 block of Old Dominion Drive. At approximately 7:30 a.m. on October 25, police responded to the report of a larceny. Upon arrival, it was determined that between 7:00 p.m. on October 24 and 6:40 a.m. on October 25, an unknown suspect(s) stole tires and rims off two vehicles. There is no suspect(s) description. The investigation is ongoing.

BURGLARY, 2018-10240056, 6000 block of Wilson Boulevard. At approximately 6:44 a.m. on October 24, police responded to the report of suspicious circumstances. Upon arrival, it was determined that at approximately 12:30 a.m., two unknown suspects forced entry to a business and stole items of value. The suspects are described as two males, wearing dark colored pants and hooded sweatshirts pulled tightly around their faces. The investigation is ongoing.

BURGLARY (late), 2018-10240083, 500 block of 23rd Street S. At approximately 9:45 a.m. on October 24, police responded to the late report of a burglary. Upon arrival, it was determined that at approximately 5:57 a.m., two unknown suspects gained entry to a business, tampered with items inside and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the suspects also forced entry to an adjoining business and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. Suspect One is described as a black male wearing all dark clothing, white gloves and a mask. Suspect Two is described as a black male wearing all dark clothing, black gloves and a mask. The investigation is ongoing.
