This week’s Arlington Pet of the Week is Ducat, a 10-year-old labrador retriever named for some antiquated currency.

Here’s what owner Abigail had to say on Ducat’s behalf:

Hi friends! My name is Ducat, I am a ten year old Labrador Retriever and I live with my parents in Clarendon. For those of you who are curious, my dad named me after a gold coin formerly used in European countries because of my soft, golden hair (or golden feathers as my Mom fondly calls it). Although I have lived in Arlington all my life, I met my dad at my grandparent’s house in North Carolina when I was a little puppy. I literally walked into his life as I sought shelter from a cold, stormy night and we have been inseparable ever since!

If you can’t already tell from the pictures, I LOVE napping and cuddling. I love lying down on soft blankets and pillows. On nice sunny days, I like to sunbathe in our yard and occasionally chase rabbits and squirrels. I also enjoy going on hiking adventures with my parents and I look forward to my daily long walks in the neighborhood. My favorite snacks are carrots, broccoli, pizza, and cheese.

If you see me around please say hi! I am very friendly and I like to meet new pup and human friends. I have been known to shed but I have been told that these are magical fibers of joy and love!

Want your pet to be considered for the Arlington Pet of the Week? Email [email protected] with a 2-3 paragraph bio and at least 3-4 horizontally-oriented photos of your pet. Please don’t send vertical photos, they don’t fit in our photo galleries!

Each week’s winner receives a sample of dog or cat treats from our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, along with $100 in Becky’s Bucks. Becky’s Pet Care is the winner of six consecutive Angie’s List Super Service Awards, the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters’ 2013 Business of the Year and a proud supporter of the Arlington County Pawsitively Prepared Campaign.

Becky’s Pet Care provides professional dog walking and pet sitting in Arlington and all of Northern Virginia, as well as PetPrep training courses for Pet Care, CPR and emergency preparedness.
