There has been a recent increase in reports of car break-ins in residential portions of North Arlington, with more than a dozen vehicles broken into this week.
Arlington County Police reported this morning that around 10 vehicles were tampered with in the Bellevue Forest neighborhood in the early morning hours.
LARCENY FROM AUTO (series), 2019-07020047/07020061/07020062, 3000 block of N. Oxford Street/3100 block of N. Peary Street/3700 block of Roberts Lane. At approximately 6:17 a.m., police were dispatched to the report of a larceny from auto. Upon arrival, it was determined that between approximately 5:30 a.m. and 6:17 a.m., an unknown suspect gained entry to and tampered with approximately 10, mostly unlocked vehicles and stole items of value. The suspect is described as a tall male with a slim build, wearing a long sleeve shirt, light colored pants and black sneakers. The investigation is ongoing.
Over the past few days, residents have reported similar vehicle break-ins and thefts in the Lyon Village, Virginia Square and Rock Spring neighborhoods, via social media and email listservs.
Police continue to ask residents to lock their cars at night, to discourage such break-ins.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY, 2019-07020001, 2100 block of 26th Street S. At approximately 12:04 a.m. on July 2, police were dispatched to the report of suspicious circumstances. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victims were inside of their residence when they heard a loud noise and discovered an unknown suspect(s) attempted to gain entry to the residence, causing damage. A canvas of the area yielded negative results. There is no suspect(s) description. The investigation is ongoing.
ROBBERY, 2019-07020039, Columbia Pike at S. Columbus Street. At approximately 5:00 a.m. on July 2, police were dispatched to the late report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined that between approximately 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., the victim was sitting on a bench in the area when he was approached by four unknown male suspects who attempted to engage him in conversation. One suspect stole the victim’s bike, while the other three suspects followed on foot. When the victim attempted to chase the suspects, two of them turned back towards him, assaulted him, and stole the his cell phone. The victim’s bike was later located in the area damaged. The victim suffered minor injuries. Suspect One is described as a black male, approximately 17-22 years old, 6’3″, with short hair, wearing a burgundy shirt and red sneakers. Suspect Two is described as a light skinned Hispanic male, approximately 17-22 years old, 5’6″, husky build, wearing a black shirt and beige shorts. Suspect Three is described as a light skinned Hispanic male, approximately 17-22 years old, 5’0′, lean build, wearing a black hoodie, gray sweatpants, black sneakers and dark sunglasses. Suspect Four is described as a very light skinned Hispanic male, approximately 17-22 years old, 5’7″-5’9″, chunky build, straight hair, wearing a black shirt. The investigation is ongoing.
ROBBERY, 2019-07010041, 600 block of 26th Street S. At approximately 7:27 a.m. on July 1, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery by force. The victim was walking in the area when he was approached by two suspects. After a brief struggle, the suspects stole the victim’s backpack and fled on foot. The victim suffered minor injuries that did not require medical treatment. Arriving officers canvased the area and the victim’s backpack was recovered in the area by an independent witness. Suspect One is described as a black male in his late teens, approximately 5’9, medium build, wearing a gray hoodie and black pants. Suspect Two is described as a black male in his late teens, approximately 5’9, medium build, wearing a black hoodie, black pants and a black hat. The investigation is ongoing.
ASSAULT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT, 2019-06290217, 2500 block of Shirlington Road. At approximately 6:58 p.m. on June 29, police were dispatched to the report of trouble unknown. Upon arrival, it was determined that a passerby had observed a female subject lying on the ground and called for assistance. Officers and medics made contact with the subject and attempted to assist her, however, she declined medical attention and refused to identify herself. While attempting to use law enforcement resources to identify her, the suspect spit on an officer. Shadavia Hughes, 36, of Alexandria, Va., was arrested and charged with Assault & Battery on Law Enforcement, Drunk in Public and Failure to Identify.
ROBBERY, 2019-06290088, 2400 block of Army Navy Drive. At approximately 6:49 a.m. on June 29, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim was with a group of friends inside of the common area of a residential building, when the suspect joined them. Shortly later, the victim and suspect walked outside to talk. Upon exiting the building, the suspect began assaulting the victim, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect stole the victim’s cell phone and then instructed him to run away. The victim complied and sought assistance from a passerby in the area. The victim was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The suspect is described as a juvenile black male, approximately 5’10”-6’0″, 100-130 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. The investigation is ongoing.
ROBBERY, 2019-06260321, 1100 block of S. Hayes Street. At approximately 10:12 p.m. on June 27, police were dispatched to the report of trouble unknown. Upon arrival, it was determined that that the victim was on foot in the area when he was approached from behind by two unknown male suspects. The suspects assaulted him and stole his backpack before fleeing the scene prior to police arrival. The victim was treated on scene by medics. Suspect One is described as a black male, 15-18 years old, approximately 5’6″ to 5’8″, wearing all black clothing, a black mask and black hat. Suspect Two is described as a black male, 15-18 years old, approximately 5’8″ to 5’10”, wearing all black clothing, a black mask and black hat. The investigation is ongoing.
BURGLARY, 2019-06260042, 1000 block of S. Glebe Road. At approximately 3:00 a.m. on June 27, police were dispatched to the report of an activated burglar alarm. Upon arrival, it was determined than an unknown suspect gained entry to a business and tampered with items. The investigation is ongoing.
