Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Arlington

(Updated at 5:20 p.m.) Arlington is under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 6 p.m.

A pop-up storm is bringing torrential rain and strong winds to parts of the county.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for… The northwestern District of Columbia… South central Montgomery County in central Maryland… Arlington County in northern Virginia… The City of Falls Church in northern Virginia… Northeastern Fairfax County in northern Virginia… The northwestern City of Alexandria in northern Virginia… Until 600 PM EDT. At 508 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Ballston, or over Arlington, and is nearly stationary. HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles. Locations impacted include… Arlington, Alexandria, Bethesda, Falls Church, Pimmit Hills, Reagan National Airport, Mclean, Rosslyn, Crystal City, Nationals Park, Howard University, Lincolnia, Tysons Corner, Lake Barcroft, Chevy Chase, Martin’s Additions, Anacostia, American University, Friendship Village and Georgetown.
