Crime Report: Knife-Swinging Man Arrested on the Pike

A 25-year-old Arlington man is facing charges after police say he injured another man while swinging a knife at some companions.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. Saturday on the 3800 block of Columbia Pike, just down the street from the Burger King.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2017-05060025, 3800 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 12:58 a.m. on May 6, officers responded to the report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined that following a verbal argument between known individuals, a physical altercation ensued. During the altercation, the male suspect allegedly brandished a knife and began swinging it around at the victims. One male victim suffered non-life threatening injuries. Ismael Rodriguez Jr., 25, of Arlington VA, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, and two counts of attempted malicious wounding. He is being held without bond.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY (Significant), 2017-05060047, 2800 block of Key Boulevard. At approximately 2:19 a.m. on May 6, police were dispatched for the report of two suspects walking in the area damaging vehicles. Arriving officers located individuals matching the descriptions provided by a witness. The investigation revealed that the two intoxicated suspects allegedly retrieved a shotgun from their vehicle, discharged multiple rounds and damaged several vehicles. Alex Ventura, 21, of Springfield, VA was arrested and charged with destruction of property (x4), drunk in public and reckless handling of a firearm. Gerson Arias, 22, of Falls Church, VA was arrested and charged with intentionally destroy property, discharge a firearm in a public place, possession of a controlled substance, and drunk in public.

LATE BURGLARY, 2017-05060103, 1200 block of Wilson Boulevard. At approximately 9:17 a.m. on May 6, officers responded to the report of a late burglary. Upon arrival, it was determined an unknown subject(s) forced entry into a building and stole items of value. The subject is described as a white male wearing a black mask, black baseball cap, black long-sleeve shirt, and black pants. The investigation is ongoing.

LATE BURGLARY, 2017-05070133, 800 block of S. 24th Street. At approximately 2:28 p.m. on May 7, officers responded to the report of a late burglary. Upon arrival, it was determined an unknown subject(s) forced entry into a residence and stole items of value. There is no subject(s) description.

RECOVERED STOLEN AUTO (Significant), 2017-05080041, 2300 block of Arlington Ridge Road. At approximately 4:08 a.m. on May 8, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling without its lights on. The vehicle initially stopped, then allegedly accelerated at a high rate of speed and fled the scene by traveling the wrong way on the ramp to I-395. The vehicle continued on and eventually sustained damage that disabled its tires, causing the suspects to flee by foot. A perimeter was established with the assistance of the United States Park Police helicopter. An officer observed the two suspects nearby and they were taken into custody without further incident. Upon further investigation, it was determined the suspects had previously stolen a vehicle and were being investigated by Virginia State Police.  Gabriel Neris, 18, of Hyattsville, MD was arrested and charged with GLA x2, 2 Credit Card thefts, Conspiracy, Felony Eluding, Reckless Driving, No Operator’s License and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Charges were also filed on one juvenile suspect.

ROBBERY, 2017-05080101, 1200 block of S. Hayes Street. At approximately 10:49 a.m. on May 8, officers responded to the report of a fight in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined an employee observed a male subject conceal merchandise and attempt to leave the store. The employee confronted the subject, causing the subject to become agitated and assault the employee. Officers arrived on scene and took the subject into custody without incident. Nevalon Short, 30, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with attempted robbery. He is being held on no bond.

BURGLARY, 2017-05030236, 6200 block of Lee Highway. At approximately 6:21 p.m. on May 3, officers responded to the report of a late larceny. Upon arrival, it was determined an unknown subject(s) entered a homeowner’s garage and stole items of value. There is no subject(s) description.
