Crime Report: Window Washer Falls onto Sidewalk

A window washer is clinging to life after plummeting about 7 stories onto the sidewalk while working on a Rosslyn office building.

The incident was detailed in this week’s Arlington County crime report, although it’s not being investigated as a crime. Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said investigators believe the victim forgot to clip in his safety harness. He stepped over an edge, fell, and landed on the sidewalk near the entrance to the offices of WJLA (ABC 7).

INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT, 07/27/12, 1000 block of Wilson Boulevard. At 11:10 am on July 27, a worker fell approximately from the 7th floor while cleaning windows. Victim is currently in critical condition.

Also in this week’s crime report, a Nauck resident’s glass door was shattered by an apparently stray bullet.

MISSILE INTO OCCUPIED DWELLING, 07/29/12, 2100 block of S. Oxford Street. At 3:40 am on July 29, victim had the front glass door shattered by a bullet fired by an unknown suspect.

ROBBERY, 07/28/12, 1800 block of N. Oak Street. At 3:17 am on July 28, the victim was talking on her cell phone when an unknown suspect pushed her to the ground and stole her phone. Suspect is described as young, black male, approximately 6’0 tall, thin and wearing a white T shirt and red shorts.

SOLICITATION OF PROSTITUTION, 07/30/12, 4100 block of S. Four Mile Run Drive. On July 30 at 11:10 pm, a traffic stop uncovered two subjects involved in prostitution. Upon police interview, it was learned the prostitute admitted to a crack abuse problem and had unprotected sex in the backseat with the subject for $20 to purchase the drug. Michael Anthony Proctor, 51, of Alexandria, VA, was released on a summons for Solicitation of Prostitution and Using a Vehicle to Promote Prostitution.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY (SERIES), 07/28/12, 800 block of S. Oakland Street. At 12:40 am on July 28, a suspect was seen breaking mirrors and windows on multiple vehicles. Arrested was Jose Diaz-Cabrera, 28 of Arlington

HOMICIDE, 07/28/12, 3200 block of S. Columbia Pike. Between 2:00 pm and 11:56 pm on July 27, the owner of a business was murdered. The investigation is ongoing.

ARMED ROBBERY, 07/25/12, 4700 block of Columbia Pike. At 8:45 am on July 25, two subjects armed with a gun and knife forced an employee of a check cashing business inside the store and emptied the contents of two safes. The subjects fled the scene on foot with approximately $37,600 in cash. The suspects are described as Hispanic males, approximately 5’8″-10″ tall, with medium builds and short dark hair. One was wearing a white tshirt and sunglasses and the other subject had a black tshirt with sunglasses.

PEEPING, 07/30/12, 4200 block of Wilson Boulevard. At 8:20 pm on July 30, an unknown male subject was watching a juvenile female use the restroom from over the top of the bathroom stall at a mall restaurant. The subject fled the scene and is described as a white male, in his 50’s, with shoulder length grayish brown hair. He was wearing baggy blue jeans, light colored button down shirt and had black head phones around his neck.

BURGLARY, 07/26/12, 1400 block of N. Quinn Street. Between 10 am and 7:30 pm on July 26, an unknown subject(s) entered a first floor apartment through an unlocked kitchen window. Various items were reported stolen to include a laptop, camera and money. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY, 07/30/12, 900 block of S. Rolfe Street. Between 11:30 pm on July 29 and 1:05 am on July 30, the victim discovered her residence had been broken into and items stolen by an unknown suspect.

BURGLARY, 07/30/12, 2600 block of S. Veitch Street. Between 11:15 pm on July 29 and 3:15 am on July 30, the victim discovered her residence had been broken into and items stolen by an unknown suspect.

BURGLARY, 07/29/12, 500 block of S. 24th Street. Between 7:00 am on July 26 and 10:00 pm on July 29, the victim discovered her residence had been broken into and items stolen by an unknown suspect.

BURGLARY (ATTEMPT), 07/27/12, 2800 block of N. Scott Street. Between 5:00 am and 9:38 am on July 27, unknown suspect attempted to break into the victim’s residence.

BURGLARY (ATTEMPT), 07/29/12, 3700 block of N. Wakefield Street. Between 4:00 am and 4:17 pm on July 29, unknown suspect attempted to break into the victim’s residence.

BURGLARY (ATTEMPT), 07/29/12, 3300 block of N. 22nd Street. Between July 24 and 8:30 pm on July 29, unknown suspect attempted to break into the victim’s residence.

LARCENY FROM AUTO (SERIES), 07/26/12, 1000 block of N. Highland Street. Between 10:00 pm on July 25 and 7:59 am on July 26, multiple vehicles were broken into and items stolen by an unknown suspect.

LARCENY FROM AUTO (SERIES), 07/28/12, 6000 block of N. 19th Street. Between 7:30 pm on July 27 and 7:30 am on July 28, multiple vehicles were broken into and items stolen by an unknown suspect.

LARCENY FROM AUTO (SERIES), 07/31/12, 800 block of Army Navy Drive. Between 11 am and 4pm on July 31, numerous vehicles were broken into while parked in the garage at the Pentagon City mall. Items reported stolen were GPS devices, money and other electronics. There is no suspect description.
