9th Street Chamber Music’s mission to breathe life into the (let’s face it) often stale genre of ‘classical music’ started from the first official event. The unique summer festival-style Launch Party in July 2021 at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Virginia Square, where 9SCM holds an artist residency, featured chamber music on an outdoor stage as guests ate and drank and participated in raffles and balloon art. It truly set the tone for the entire season.
Up through their final concert of the season this past Saturday, June 11, 9th Street Quartet offered energizing performances that primarily featured beautiful music reflective of our current time. 9SQ was also offered the opportunity of a guest artist performance and master class at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA.
The organization also fostered the musical and personal growth of the members of the 9SCM Youth String Quartet Intensive through performances and weekly coaching by some of the D.C. area’s most prominent musicians and pedagogues. These talented musicians who represented over fifteen area schools in grades 8 through 12 are an integral part of the growing 9SCM community.
9SCM will be back starting Sunday, July 31 with the Second Annual Summer Festival! Stay tuned for more information on all of the offerings for Season Two. Find info at 9thstreetchambermusic.com.
