9 to 5 The Musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton is based on the 1980 hit movie. This hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.

Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy — giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can’t she?

According to the CDC, the effects of COVID-19 on the health of racial and ethnic minority groups are still emerging; however, current data suggest a disproportionate burden of illness and death among racial and ethnic minority groups.

During our general membership meeting, the Public Health Director for Arlington County, Dr. Reuben Varghese, will provide the membership and attendees with a brief update on the COVID-19 pandemic.

The magic of Encore Stage & Studio is back! Since 1967, Encore’s award-winning productions have introduced countless young people to the magic of theater.

Encore’s return-to-stage season is full of celebration. It’s certainly no small feat to produce live performances on the mainstage, but returning to these artistic experiences is vital for our community. And rehearsals are now underway for Encore’s world-premiere play, Riley O’Brien and the Lost Leprechaun!

After a row with her parents, adventuresome teen Riley O’Brien mysteriously finds herself transported to Ireland with Flanagan Hannigan, a Leprechaun-in-training, who needs her help to complete a final challenge. Meeting pixies, banshees, and other mythical creatures along the way, can they work together to discover the true magic of friendship and family?  Written by playwright Kate Monaghan and directed by Elizabeth Pringle, Riley is family-friendly fun just in time for St. Patrick’s Day!

Cody Chance and Dick Nathan of Long & Foster are hosting an online workshop on the topic of “downsizing” on Wednesday, February 23 from 5:30-7 p.m. We have created a workbook with an extensive planning guide to enable you to design a personalized written plan for your move. It includes copious resources specific to Northern Virginia to help you to find the best people to assist you, and to get your extra belongings into the hands of people who will value them. The format is a “guided group discussion” of the workbook, with a chance for the participants to ask their own questions.

We will cover three major themes:

  • Handling a lifetime’s worth of possessions
  • Ensuring that your legal and financial arrangements reflect your needs
  • How to sell your current home and find another that is the “right size” for you

If you would like to join, call (864)525-9253 or email [email protected].

Movement and Magic are what Synetic Theater is dishing up this summer for the 26th anniversary of our highly engaging summer camp program! Since 1996, Synetic has delighted families by offering arts-based movement experiences that culminate in a performance fit for the stage. Students work with Synetic’s professional team of teaching artists to create and learn a play written for them! Each session ends in a performance for their families.

This year, campers will explore the upside-down world of Kingston Valley and all the wacky things that have ensued, in our two-week camp entitled: Peculiar Things. While this play is based on a popular streaming show, the camp will be anything but scary — abounding with 80’s inspired jokes and music. Looking for a one-week camp experience to cool off after an encounter with strange creatures? Look no further than Foiled Fables. In this camp, students work to create and re-imagine their favorite fairy tale stories and bring them to life. Will Cinderella be wearing Vans, or will the Big Bad Wolf finally join that support group? Anything is possible!

We ask voters in Northern Virginia to support changes to the Virginia Historic Preservation law (section 15.2-2306 of the Code of Virginia) (as written in Senate Bill No. 206 and House Bill No. 1210) to do two things, by signing the petition below:

  • Stop the demolition of nominated historic sites, buildings, houses and landmarks until the local government with input from local residents and historians has completed its review and decision whether to designate a nominated site
  • Allow local residents and historians who nominate a historic site to have access to court review of locality final decisions to ensure that the state law is followed

Please sign the Moveon.org petition to the Virginia General Assembly.

Nominated historic houses, sites, buildings, and landmarks and areas should be preserved during local review. Residents and historic advocates today have no access to ask for court review, often historic law is ignored.
