Embracing Arlington Arts is conducting a survey to help develop a business plan for a new flexible and quality performing arts center in the County. We want to include community and patron feedback about their theater-going habits, interest in a venue in Arlington, art genres they patronize, and more.

Therefore, we are asking ARLnow readers to help us by filling out the survey which should only take about 3-4 minutes. Please complete the short survey at this link by January 30, so that your responses can be aggregated with all the rest.

(This Community Post was written by The Arlington Players and underwritten by Embracing Arlington Arts.)

The Arlington Players (TAP) is seeking volunteers with all levels of experience to join them in putting up three brand-new one act plays!

TAP has partnered with another community theater, The Little Theatre of Alexandria (LTA), in putting up a “Night of One Acts” this upcoming spring. These three shows were selected from more than 100 submissions, and each one brings a unique perspective with it. You can find more information on the shows on our website.

To work with us on bringing these new works to life on our stage, start by filling out this form. We are looking for seasoned practitioners who are willing to mentor, and for individuals with a can-do attitude who are willing to learn and be mentored in a theater art they are interested in. If you want to learn a new skill, get involved in your local community, and volunteer in support of the arts, this is your opportunity!

All questions can be sent to Nick Friedlander via email at [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you in the theater with us.

Abstract painting in acrylic or oil is one of the new classes Art House 7 is offering for the Winter I session. This class will develop students’ painting skills through the self-expression of color and form. Award-winning artist Bryan Jernigan will show each student how to create paintings unique to them, using principles of composition, value and color.

Working through a process of play, contemplation and resolution, they will also create one large painting. A wonderful class for novice or experienced painters — Jernigan will provide individual attention for a range of levels. Thursdays, February 3-March 10, 6:30-8:30 p.m., adults. $275.

See more information on Jernigan’s class and all winter classes:https://arthouseseven.com/winter1-2022/

Cody Chance and Dick Nathan of Long & Foster are hosting an online workshop on the topic of “down-sizing” Wednesday, January 12 from 5:30-7 p.m. We have created a workbook with an extensive planning guide to enable you to design a personalized written plan for your move. It includes copious resources specific to Northern Virginia to help you to find the best people to assist you, and to get your extra belongings into the hands of people who will value them. The format is a “guided group discussion” of the workbook, with a chance for the participants to ask their own questions.

We’ll cover three major themes:

  • Handling a lifetime’s worth of possessions
  • Ensuring that your legal and financial arrangements reflect your needs
  • How to sell your current home and find another that is the “right size” for you

If you would like to join, call (864)525-9253 or email [email protected]

For the second year in a row, Arlington Community Foundation is excited to host the Nonprofit Wish Catalog featuring grant ideas of 26 local nonprofits with wishes of up to $5,000 each.

In 2020, thanks to the generosity of donors like you, we were able to fulfill the year-end wishes of every single nonprofit in the Wish Catalog, raising over $120,000 for our neighbors and the organizations that support them.

From providing holiday meals to families, to helping vulnerable seniors age-in-place with dignity, to funding medical care for low-income infants and children, these year-end wishes provide donors the opportunity to browse a variety of local needs and missions and donate any amount toward any goal all in one place.
