There is a special kind of magic in the theater when the lights go down and you hear Welcome to Encore Stage & Studio! After 18 long months, Encore finally felt that magic we’ve all been missing when The Hobbit, Encore’s first production in the theatre since March 2020, opened in September. Kids are creating onstage and in the scene shop together again!

To get to that magical moment, Encore endured uncertainty with the rest of the world.

Encore’s drive-through pandemic productions lifted spirits in our community. Patrons drove from scene to scene, engaging with the actors along the way. Typically serving 15,000 students a year, Encore is proud that even in the pandemic they continue to fulfill their mission with creative virtual and safe in-person programming.

The Return to Earn initiative was launched in June of this year in an effort to support small businesses find and retain the talent they need while also helping unemployed Virginian’s transition back into the workforce. $500 per new hire for a maximum of 25 employees is provided as an incentive by this program. That means that your business could receive up to $12,500 depending on hiring and staffing needs.

The SkillSource Group, Inc. and Virginia Career Works Northern is working hard to make this program available to the small business community and to make the application, enrollment, and reimbursement process as simple as possible. Stand apart from the competition, increase new employee morale, and take part in the Return to Earn Program. Please follow the URL link included in this post for more information and to access an online application.

Cody Chance and Dick Nathan of Long & Foster are hosting an online workshop on the topic of “down-sizing” Wednesday, December 15 from 5:30-7 p.m. We have created a workbook with an extensive planning guide to enable you to design a personalized written plan for your move. It includes copious resources specific to Northern Virginia to help you to find the best people to assist you, and to get your extra belongings into the hands of people who will value them. The format is a “guided group discussion” of the workbook, with a chance for the participants to ask their own questions.

We will cover three major themes:

  • Handling a lifetime’s worth of possessions
  • Ensuring that your legal and financial arrangements reflect your needs
  • How to sell your current home and find another that is the “right size” for you
