The Return to Earn initiative was launched in June of this year in an effort to support small businesses find and retain the talent they need while also helping unemployed Virginian’s transition back into the workforce. $500 per new hire for a maximum of 25 employees is provided as an incentive by this program. That means that your business could receive up to $12,500 depending on hiring and staffing needs.

The SkillSource Group, Inc. and Virginia Career Works Northern is working hard to make this program available to the small business community and to make the application, enrollment and reimbursement process as simple as possible. Stand apart from the competition, increase new employee morale, and take part in the Return to Earn Program. We are thrilled to share the news about return to live performances on November 6 after a season in seclusion and numerous virtual performances. Chamber music is about intimacy of communication with the other musicians but also with the audience. The coming season will entice with many of the beloved classical favorites as well as lesser-known masterpieces.

NCE’s August well attended performance on Arlington’s Summer Series at Lubber Run Amphitheater and its September 14th collaboration with the Bowen McCauley Dance Company enjoyed a full house at Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater.

Cody Chance and Dick Nathan of Long & Foster are hosting an online workshop on the topic of “down-sizing” Wednesday, October 27 from 5:30-7 p.m. Every great endeavor begins with a great plan. This workshop will give you the tools to design your plan. We have created a workbook with an extensive planning guide to enable you to design a personalized written plan for your move, and more than twenty pages of resources specific to Northern Virginia to help you along the way!

These resources will help you to find the best people to assist you in your move, and help you get the belongings that won’t move with you into the hands of people who will value them. The workshop format is a “guided group discussion” of the workbook, with a chance for the participants to ask their own questions, and special guest presenter Alexandra Fry of Orchestrated Moves will be joining us to share her many years of expertise in organization and moving.

Embracing Arlington Arts released its Health Benefits of the Arts package: a three-part Educational Podcast Series and one-stop library database of 100 study links providing evidence of these benefits. The database is broken down into five community sectors (Medically Disabled, Physically Disabled, Seniors, Students/Children and Veterans), with five links for each of the four art therapy genres (dance, music, theater/drama and visual arts). The database will be updated each year with new studies replacing those more than 5 years old.

The Educational Podcast series features three distinguished researchers from George Mason University. Dr. Thalia Goldstein from GMU’s Applied Developmental Psychology Department has had years of experience examining the health benefits of the arts for children and students, which include higher academic grades, better test scores, less absenteeism (leading to decreased hunger), better social skills and more expertise in collaborative work than students without the arts.
