Summer Camps at AAC started this week and we are thrilled to be working with our creative campers again! Camps for ages 5-18 run through August 27 with virtual and in-person options. Reserve a spot for your creative kiddo today!

Offering both on and offsite camps allows campers to get creative wherever they are! Campers at the beach or at grandma’s house can have an activity to come back to every day at the same time and have the opportunity to hold a creative routine. Campers in both formats of camps will explore the fundamentals of the visual arts through exciting projects in two and three dimensional media, while learning about new and different artistic techniques and contemporary artists working in the world today!

Best known as General George Washington in Hamilton, Broadway star Christopher Jackson now leads Signature Theatre’s After Midnight, streaming now through August 4th at SigTheatre.org.

The professionally filmed exhilarating song and dance extravaganza is set to the swinging sounds of Duke Ellington, Jimmy McHugh, Dorothy Fields, Harold Arlen and more and framed by the poems of Langston Hughes.

In addition to Christopher Jackson, After Midnight stars Helen Hayes Award Winner Nova Y. Payton (Signature’s Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Shakespeare Theatre’s The Amen Corner) and a cast of the D.C. area’s finest actors and dancers with a band of seven. Featuring 28 of the big band era’s most memorable songs including “Stormy Weather,” “I’ve Got the World on a String,” “On the Sunny Side of the Street,” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” this non-stop revue showcases the gorgeous glamour and sophisticated syncopation of the Harlem heartbeat after midnight.

Thinking outside the box again, local nonprofit READ is turning the traditional read-a-thon into a Read-O-Rama with PajamaMama as a summer fundraiser. Activities include a game board with daily activities for every READer in the family, a family scavenger hunt and outdoor read-alouds to name a few.

All money raised will help READ launch its new initiative Baby Book Bundles that will provide 5 new board books to uninsured moms-to-be to start reading to their babies the day they are born, plus they’ll receive a new book every month of their baby’s first year. Think of it as a community service opportunity for the whole family.

Cody Chance and Dick Nathan of Long & Foster are hosting an online workshop on the topic of “down-sizing” Wednesday, June 9 from 5-6:30 p.m. Every great endeavor begins with a great plan. This workshop will give you the tools to design your plan.

We have created a workbook with an extensive planning guide to enable you to design a personalized written plan for your move, and more than twenty pages of resources specific to Northern Virginia to help you along the way! These resources will help you to find the best people to assist you in your move, and help you get the belongings that won’t move with you into the hands of people who will value them. The workshop format is a “guided group discussion” of the workbook, with a chance for the participants to ask their own questions, and special guest presenter Alexandra Fry of Orchestrated Moves will be joining us to share her many years of expertise in organization and moving.
