Encore Stage & Studio kicked off spring by making theatre more accessible with the expansion of its Healthy Play Initiative (HPI). Since 2016, children have experienced the creative arts with Encore teaching artists while their parents picked up healthy food for their families at the Arlington Food Assistance Center distribution locations. This spring, Encore is collaborating with Arlington Partners for Affordable Housing (APAH) to expand HPI to young residents of affordable housing in Arlington.

“All children deserve to experience the life-changing power of the arts” says Sara Duke, Executive Director. Students enjoy a safe and nurturing environment in HPI classes where they learn new skills in a fun and engaging manner. Children have the opportunity to build their creativity, teamwork and storytelling skills right where they live.

Nanouche will also offer compelling examples, including physical healings, from her own experience to illustrate elements of Christian Science treatment.

ETC Summer Camps are back for in-person theatre and filmmaking!

Theatre and Film are uniquely suited for the return to in-person learning. We teach students about negative space — air between performers — and how we use it to tell a story. Audience experiences are primarily led by the director’s choice of stage movement (blocking). In ETC-on-Film, we teach students to choose strong shots to enhance storytelling.

Using the tool of imagination, a common camp warm-up is passing the ball of energy. We make eye contact to connect with another person across the room and “send” them energy through vocal and physical gestures.
