The Arlington Chorale — A Season of “Finding Joy”

(This Community Post was written by The Arlington Chorale, and underwritten by Embracing Arlington Arts.)

The sixty members of The Arlington Chorale, an auditioned community choir, continues to rehearse virtually. This season, the ensemble — which includes members just out of college, singers who have been in the group for decades and everyone in between — is committed to finding joy through music and community outreach. “The past months have been filled with uncertainty, but our Monday evening rehearsals are a constant for me. Each week begins with something that brings me joy and challenges me,” says Chorale member Marissa Works.

This mixed-voice ensemble, established in 1966, is preparing for a virtual holiday collaboration with the Symphony Orchestra of Northern Virginia (SONOVA) titled “Dashing through the Snow.” Tickets go on sale November 16.

The Chorale is also committed to creating social change, staying true to two of its core values — service and community. It is piloting a Youth Community Council (YCC) — a new outreach program where students ages 10-18 work collaboratively with Artistic Director Ingrid Lestrud and the Board of Directors to design projects with music to make a positive impact in Arlington.

The YCC is thrilled to announce its first event taking place on December 17 — “Lifting our Voices for Arlington Thrive.” This online concert, planned and curated by eight local students, will feature holiday music, Arlington trivia, interviews with nonprofit leaders and more. All ticket proceeds will benefit Arlington Thrive and go on sale November 16 at  https://www.arlingtonchorale.org.
