2020 was a scary year. But from this comes compelling artwork that also highlights hope. The Arlington Artists Alliance’s juried gallery, Gallery Underground, will feature Dreams and Nightmares from February 1-26, a fascinating all-media national juried exhibition. Artists were tasked with interpreting the theme, from the beautiful and sublime to the dark and twisted.
Juried by D.C. sculptor Emily Francisco, the works chosen from around the country range from dreamy and figurative abstracts and humorous daydreams, to eerie landscapes and depictions of terrifying, living-nightmare psychotic episodes. There will be no opening reception due to COVID-19 guidelines, but the work can be seen on the walls of the gallery from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Gallery Underground is located in the Crystal City shops at 2100 Crystal Drive, accessible by Metro’s blue line, Crystal City stop. One-hour free parking is offered in the garages.
The Arlington Artists Alliance, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, and Gallery Underground are sponsored in part by Arlington County through Arlington Cultural Affairs, a division of Arlington Economic Development, the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and by the National Landing BID and JBG Smith.
