Support a local business and try some great wines tonight at the Curious Grape at 4056 Campbell Dr in Shirlington.
The free tasting includes “a diverse lineup of red, white, and sparkling… from top winemakers in Italy, Spain, and California and including a Prosecco and a splashy red from Rioja.”
The event will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 tonight.
Today the Clarendon Alliance announced that in lieu of this year’s Mardi Gras parade, which was canceled due to snow, Clarendon will host a St. Patrick’s Day parade.
The parade is being held on Tuesday, March 16, the night before St. Paddy’s Day. It will kick off at 8:00 p.m. on Wilson Blvd at N. Barton St. The parade will then head up Wilson Blvd to the Clarendon Metro.
The official details are yet to be announced, but we’re told to expect homegrown floats, people in costumes, and marchers from various local organizations. We’re also told that this may turn into an annual event, if it proves to be successful.
The City of Falls Church and the Washington Area Music Association are hosting the 24th annual WAMMIE awards at the State Theater (220 N. Washington St., Falls Church) this coming Sunday. In addition to the main event, Falls Church is holding a number of “meet and greet” pre-parties at local eateries.
The pre-parties run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This year’s Clarendon Mardi Gras parade, scheduled for today, was canceled due to complications caused by last week’s snow storms. But worry not, Fat Tuesday partying will still go on.
Ragtime Restaurant in Courthouse is the place to be tonight for the food, drinks and music of New Orleans. Ragtime is offering an expanded Cajun menu, including fried oysters, shrimp and crawfish. That’s in addition to the usual Tuesday raw bar special.
The food may be tempting, but it’s not Fat Tuesday without some festive drink specials. Two beers from Louisiana brewery Abita are on special tonight: Abita Turbo Dog is on tap for $3, and Abita Purple Haze bottles are $3.50. Ragtime is also offering $6.50 Hurricanes and Cyclones.
The food and drinks will be complimented by live music. Arlington’s Brother Shamus will play from 6 to 9. Local New Orleans-style jazz band Le Bon Temps Krewe takes the stage from 9-11.
A $3 cover will be charged after 9:00.
IOTA Club and Cafe in Clarendon is hosting a benefit concert for Haiti tonight. Remember Haiti? It’s the place we were feeling sorry for before we had three feet of snow dumped on us.
The concert will feature local acts Will Rast and the Funk Arc, DC Traffic, Rico and The Lighthorse Band. Proceeds will benefit the Red Cross.

With all this talk of blizzards and groundhogs seeing their shadows, now might be a good time to willfully escape from reality and dream about spring (which is exactly a month and a half away.) Tonight, naturalist Greg Zell will lead a presentation about the wide variety of natural habitats and unique wildlife that reside within Arlington’s borders. Imagine, while everybody else is fighting for bread, milk and toilet paper at the grocery store, you can be learning about natural wonders that exist in your own backyard.

If I were writing a press release for the amazingly prolific Crystal City BID, the description of tonight’s Crystal Couture event would say something about how “the weather is cold but the fashions and the models are hot in Crystal City.” But this is why I’m not in PR.
The actual promotional material contains the tagline “Wild, Sexy, Fashionable Fun!” and the theme “Jungle Jeans, Tats and Tees tease.” Okay, it’s a bit corny and slightly disturbing, but if you’re looking to publicize an event whose underlying mandate is to provide a contrast from Crystal City’s decidedly buttoned-up image… well, it gets the job done.
Tonight’s installment of the week-long fashion fest features t-shirt printing, a jeans design competition, and the usual host of local merchants parading their fashions down the runway.
