Busboys & Poets Shirlington Presents Comedy Night

A lineup of six comedians is set for the comedy night, if you’re hoping to get your ribs tickled, massage your funny bone, and slap a knee or two. Seating is first come first served. Full menu and bar will be available throughout the event.

Thursday, Nov. 22

Thanksgiving Dinner*
Quinn’s on the Corner (1776 Wilson Blvd)
Time: 12 p.m.

The restaurant’s full regular menu will be available and it will be featuring “GIANT Turkey Legs with all the fixings.” Offerings include a traditional deep fried, house-seasoned turkey breast, cranberry sauce, and stuffing. Watch all scheduled football games on the eatery’s multiple big screen TVs.

Arlington Turkey Trot
Christ Church of Arlington/Lyon Park (3020 N. Pershing Drive)
Time: 8-10 a.m.

The church offers its 13th annual Thanksgiving Day 5K. Tickets are $45 for anyone age 18 and over. For anyone 6-17, tickets are $25. Over the past 12 years, the race registrants and business sponsors have raised over $600,000 to help Arlington residents who need a “hand up.”

Friday, Nov. 23

Wolfenoot Adoption Party
Animal Welfare League of Arlington (2650 S. Arlington Mill Drive)
Time: 12-5 p.m.

Wolfenoot is a brand new holiday being celebrated across the world. It was recently invented by a seven-year-old boy in New Zealand, who wanted to create a holiday that celebrated dogs (and all animals) and those who love them. Offerings include ‘Name Your Price’ adoption fees for all animals, a donation drive and family friendly activities.

Handel’s Messiah Sing-Along

The 47th Annual Messiah’s Sing-Along at Clarendon UMC with guest conductor, Richard Giarusso. Soloist and orchestra lead Part I Handels Messiah. Scores are provided and a reception follows. Free entry.

Arlington’s Public Spaces Master Plan Open Door Event

Ask questions or share your thoughts about the final draft for Arlington’s Public Spaces Master Plan. Developed after more than three years of partnership with the PSMP Update Advisory Committee, numerous public engagement activities and more than 1,000 recorded community comments, the new plan will replace the 2005 Plan and is one of 11 critical components of Arlington County’s Comprehensive Plan.

Encore Stage & Studio presents Jingle ARRGH the Way! A mysterious message left in the crow’s nest of their ship brings Captain Braid Beard and his pirate mates back to North Beach to seek out young Jeremy Jacob to help solve a riddle and find the Christmas treasure. Performances also scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

The 4th annual Jennifer Bush-Lawson 5K & Family Fun Day carries on the legacy of Jenn Lawson, a dedicated mom and runner who was passionate about making available to all mothers the same level of care she received for her own complicated pregnancies.

Residents can safely dispose of hazardous household materials (HHM), and recycle items including bikes, small metal items and much more. HHM are products found in the home that are flammable, corrosive, poisonous or potentially hazardous.

Lyon Park Crafts Fair

Time: 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The event will feature handmade crafts and baked goods, with lunch served from 11 am to 1 pm. The Lyon Park not-just-for-Women’s Club will offer restaurant quality Reggiano Parmesan at below market prices. Preorders are recommended. MONA Annual Preschool Fair*

The Mothers of North Arlington’s Preschool Fair will give parents a chance to meet representatives and parents from over 50 local preschools and receive a handout with a list of all local preschools. Advance online registration is preferred and the fair is free.

Arlington LWV Arlington County Board Candidate Debate 2018

The Arlington League of Women Voters is hosting a debate between County Board candidates John Vihstadt (I) and Matthew Ferranti (D). Vihstadt is the incumbent County Board member and his challenger, Ferranti, won the low-turnout Democratic Primary earlier this year. The debate will be held in Room 527 AB.

Before You File: Everything You Need to Know About the New Tax Law

The Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA) is hosting a free workshop offering a general overview of the new tax law. Encore Stage & Studio 3rd Annual Costume Caper 5K & 1K Fun Run*

Encore Stage and Studio invites families and community members on a run along the W&OD trail. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes. Online registration for the 5K is $30 in advance or $35 for registration the day of the race. The 1K Fun Run for kids ages 10 or under is $10.

A Cappella Barbershop Harmony Show*

Time: 3:30-5:30 p.m.

The Arlingtones annual show returns with all the barbershop classics. This year features the 2016 national youth quartet champions Pratt Street Power as a special guest. Admission is $15 for adults or $10 for students with an ID. Tickets are available online or at the door.

Installation of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church’s New Rector*
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church (4000 Lorcom Lane)

The church will host “A Celebration of New Ministry,” a special afternoon worship service marking the arrival of its new rector, Rev. Dorota Pruski. The service is open to the public and a reception will follow.
