Marymount University’s School of Business and Technology (SBT) has launched an initiative to address one of the most significant talent gaps in the greater Washington region – a shortage of graduates who are prepared to use entrepreneurial skills to help employers grow and meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
The Marymount Intrapreneurship Initiative (MI2, pronounced “MI squared”) is aimed at students who often feel left out from entrepreneurship programs because they want to use their entrepreneurial spirit and skills in existing organizations, rather than start their own. Intrapreneurship, defined as the application of entrepreneurial behavior to growth challenges in existing organizations, drives the growth of many successful area businesses in media, hospitality, government contracting, healthcare and information technology. Recent highly-publicized efforts in the region to drive workforce development have demonstrated a need for employees who can identify and address opportunities for growth, manage ambiguity and lead change.

Virginia Attorney General Mark R. Herring has filed suit against members of the Sackler Family, owners of Purdue Pharma, for their role in creating and perpetuating the opioid crisis, and for fraudulently taking billions of dollars from Purdue Pharma in an attempt to put money beyond the reach of the Commonwealth of Virginia and other parties who may be entitled to damages.
“For decades, the Sackler Family has made a fortune from the sales of drugs that they knew were dangerous, deadly, and addictive,” said Attorney General Herring. “While the Sackler Family has lived a life of unimaginable wealth and comfort, families across Virginia and around the country have been devastated by an opioid crisis that was fueled by lies and deceit by Purdue Pharma and the Sacklers. To make matters worse, we believe the Sacklers siphoned billions from the company as part of a scheme to ensure they got to keep their profits. The Sackler Family must be held accountable for their role in the heartbreak and loss of life they and their company and products have caused.”

Cuisine Solutions and its sister company CREA, The Culinary Research and Education Academy, are pleased to announce that their innovative Café + Teria program, which launched in 2017 to provide high school students with a healthy, balanced, customized lunch, is expanding into four Virginia districts for the 2019-2020 school year. The program is also launching in South Carolina at four Pickens County high schools. At each Café +Teria, students select ingredients in four steps to build a nutritious meal. They pick a base of grain, salad or a wrap; a protein: antibiotic-free chicken, ground beef, or Paneer cheese; a topping of vegetables, cheese and sauces, and a dressing. Café + Teria features popular international cuisine types including Mexican, Asian, Mediterranean, Caribbean and Italian designed to address menu fatigue, along with a new BBQ bowl being introduced this fall.
In 2017, Café + Teria was originally introduced to high school students attending Arlington, Virginia’s three public high schools, Wakefield, Yorktown and Washington-Lee. Due to the success at these schools in Arlington it will also expand to The Heights (the new home of H-B Woodlawn) and the Arlington School Career Center on September 3.
