An event featuring seasonal treats, a silent auction, holiday gifts from crafters and local vendors, children’s activities and a visit with Santa. Money raised will support local nonprofit Children’s Weekday Program and its work.

Washington-Lee High School Holiday Bazaar

Over 70 local artisans will be selling handcrafted and other gift items including jewelry, ceramics, glassware, pet items, accessories and more. Shoppers can also sample multi-ethnic food and live entertainment from school groups.

BalletNova presents The Nutcracker

An annual interpretation of The Nutcracker for the Northern Virginia community by BalletNova, choreographed by Nancie Woods and Caroline Frankil Warren. Performances are on November 30 and December 1, 2 and 3.

Arlington’s 12th annual Thanksgiving race, raising money for local nonprofits AFAC, A-SPAN and more. The 5k race leads more than 4,000 runners through the Lyon Park neighborhood, and finishes in front of the Lyon Park Center.

Local History Talk: Life in Union Forts

Learn more about the local history of Arlington County with historian Mark Benbow of the Arlington Historical Society. Benbow will discuss life at the Civil War forts that used to be located in the Arlington Ridge neighborhood.

A program on Christian Heurich, Washington D.C.’s most successful and oldest brewer. Dr. Mark Benbow draws on family papers and photos to chronicle Heurich’s life and the evolving beer industry before and after Prohibition.

Jason Samenow of The Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang will talk about weather, including if storms in the local area have gotten worse, how they predict weather and more as part of the church’s monthly Faith Food and Fellowship.

Night in the Garden of Spain *

The National Chamber Ensemble’s opening night spotlights the musical culture of Spain. The program includes the music of Granados, Turina, Casals, de Falla and Albeniz. NCE will also premiere a new creation with Bowen McCauley Dance.

An event where residents can safely dispose of hazardous household materials, recycle bikes, small metal items, shoes, clothing and more. Residents can also swap an old CFL lightbulb for a new LED bulb (one per household, while supplies last).

Oktoberfest Fundraiser for Disaster Response
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (3022 Woodlawn Ave.)
Time: 1-6 p.m.

Enjoy music, German food and entertainment, polka lessons, a chicken dance flash mob and a Schnitzelbank sing along among other activities at Holy Trinity’s Oktoberfest celebrations. Tickets cost $20 per adult or $45 per family.

Kinhaven 5K *

Time: 9-10:15 a.m.

A flat out and back course with a 5K, Kids 1K and free Toddler Dash on offer for runners, walkers and strollers. The eighth annual race also will include music, a dance party, refreshments, free face painting and a free moon bounce.

Pints4Paws Beer Festival

A beer festival with unlimited craft beer tastings, food trucks and vendors offering animal-related goods and services, all to support the Animal Welfare League of Arlington. The event also includes a costume contest for dogs, with prizes.

Latino American Festival

Celebrate Arlington’s rich diversity during Hispanic Heritage Month with this festival, which includes live music and dance, dozens of artisan and community vendors, authentic Latino food, free activities for kids and live arts programming.

The two-day summit to celebrate urban agriculture will keep with the theme “Reconnecting our Urban and Rural Communities.” Activities include conversations, workshops, tours, exhibits and good food.

Celebration of the Arts in Arlington

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Citizens group “Embracing Arlington Arts” encourages attendees to don art-themed costumes during the celebration of arts. Festivities include food, drinks, music and special appearances, including Master of Ceremonies Remy Munasifi (the Arlington Rap Guy). All net proceeds will be donated to Arlington Independent Media.

The Invincible Czars Present Nosferatu

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Austin-based band The Invincible Czars bring a modern score to the 1922 silent film Nosferatu using a mix of acoustic and electric instruments. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the Halloween season.

Local author, historian and writer Charlie Clark discusses his book, “Hidden History of Arlington County.” Clark uncovered some vivid history of the community, explores those who once lived in Arlington and looked back at other notable moments.

Conversations with Tyler: Mary Roach *

Best-selling science author Mary Roach joints Tyler Cowen for the Mercatus Center’s “Conversations with Tyler” series. Roach has published eight books, and explores taboo topics such as sex, life in space and dead bodies.

Hurricane Irma Relief Happy Hour

Time: 5 p.m. to midnight

A percentage of all drink purchases and all raffle proceeds will be donated directly to Don Tito’s partners at SBP and matched dollar for dollar up to $25,000. Activities include special priced mix drinks and a raffle of gift cards and other items.

Boundary Stones Bike Tour
East Falls Church Metro station (2014 N. Sycamore Street)
Time: 9:15 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

A 35-mile bike tour of historic places. The tour includes traveling along streets in Arlington, Falls Church, Fairfax County and Alexandria, with many stops including historic places and 11 boundary stones that once marked the D.C. border.

Cosplay: Represent!

Panelists will share their diverse perspectives of cosplaying as a “minority nerd.” Kimono Jones, Jacqueline Boxx, Cherie Sweetbottom and Cherokee Rose will take part in the discussion as part of the library’s Cosplay Month.

Local History Talks: The Little Tea House

Mark Benbow of the Arlington Historical Society will discuss the history of The Little Tea House on S. Arlington Ridge Road. It was a favorite spot for people visiting D.C. from the 1920s to 1950s, and was somewhere racially mixed groups could gather.

The sixth annual street festival for Arlington’s various ethnic groups. The event includes vendors of traditional foods, handcrafts, arts, jewelry and art as well as local businesses. Other highlights include a parade and live entertainment.
