Tuesday

Trolls (Oscar Watch Film)
Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse (2903 Columbia Pike)
Time: 4:30 p.m.

DreamWorks’ “smart, funny, irreverent” animated comedy, Trolls, will be playing at the Drafthouse on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Tickets range from $2 to $6.50. The film is rated PG.

Clarendon Chanukah Menorah Lighting*
Clarendon Central Park (3140 Wilson Blvd.)
Time: 6-7 p.m.

This event at the Clarendon Metro plaza is free of charge and sponsored by Chabad Lubavitch of Alexandria/Arlington. There will be a lighting of a giant six foot menorah and guests will get to enjoy hot potato latkes and chocolate gelt.

Saturday

New Year’s Eve at Osteria Da Nino*

Time: 4:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m.

Osteria Da Nino is celebrating the New Year with a three course dinner for just $70. Seating will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and again from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. There will be a complimentary Prosecco toast at midnight.

New Year’s at Twisted Vines!*

Time: 7 p.m.-12 a.m.

Twisted Vines is hosting a New Year’s Eve dinner that includes a four course dinner and wine pairings, followed by a countdown party with appetizers, music and more. There will also be a brunch on New Year’s Day.

90’s New Year’s Eve — 2017*

The Hyatt Regency at Capitol Hill is ringing in the new year with a 90’s party that includes live music, food, drinks and amazing D.C. views. Tickets include general admission and VIP and guests must be 21 and over.

2017 NYE Decades Sehkraft Brewing*

Ring in the New Year in Clarendon with the cover band “Girls Night Out” and DJ Fusion as they play hit songs from the 80s, 90s and 2000s. Tickets start at $30 and include drink tickets, a VIP entrance and party favors.

The Pentagon Row Ice Rink is hosting its annual Chanukah event where you can skate with family, friends and win prizes. There will be dinner, refreshments and a giant six-foot menorah. Tickets are $13 at the door.

Bah, Humbug! An Improvised Christmas Carol

The Baltimore Improv Group is performing their take on A Christmas Carol. The plot remains the same but the show is an improvised retelling that includes audience participation. Tickets are $20 and there will be another show on Friday.

Live Nativity at Calloway UMC*

This “live nativity” event will include real animals with a reenactment of the Christmas story’s visit from the Wise Men. Guests can also sing Christmas carols and enjoy hot beverages.

It’s A Wonderful Night at the Drafthouse

Conversations with Tyler: A Conversation with Jhumpa Lahiri*

Jhumpa Lahiri, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and commentator on the lives of immigrant families, will join Tyler Cowen for a discussion as part of the Conversations with Tyler event series.

The Arlington County Police Department is asking community members to help bring holiday cheer to local children in need by donating new and unwrapped toys. Donations will be distributed throughout the month of December.

In the Garden Of Live Flowers

This event will feature Attilio Favorini and Lynne Conner’s play based on Rachel Carson’s world-changing book, Silent Spring. Carson, who was diagnosed with breast cancer while writing her book, is at a crossroads where her own life story meets a landscape uplifted by cultural references that bring the revolutionary science of Silent Spring to the stage.

The Second City’s Nut-Cracking Holiday Revue

The Chicago sketch comedy troupe presents a blend of hysterical scenes, songs, improv and holiday mischief on Friday and Saturday, and from December 16-18. Second City is the famous training ground for legendary comedians like John Belushi, Mike Myers and Tina Fey.

National Chamber Ensemble — Happy Holidays!*

This annual holiday concert features the music of Mozart, Bach and Schumann, as well as holiday favorites by Leroy Anderson’s Sleighride, a Hanukkah Fantasy and more. The concert concludes with Carol’s Sing-Along with a reception to follow.

Winter Wonderland

This annual community event will be held on Saturday and Sunday and celebrates the winter season with live carolers, crafts, face painting, holiday treats and more. Donating any unused toy can earn you a free picture with Santa through the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation.

The Hot Club of DC at Bistro 29 Swing

The Hot Club of DC celebrates the gypsy jazz music of the 1920s-1950s and features the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli and covers of the American Jazz Standards, Classic French songs and a few Eastern European Tunes.

Nutcracker Tea at the Ritz

The Nutcracker*

BalletNova will be performing The Nutcracker, with its last performance on Sunday. The ballet, which debuted in 1892, is set to Tchaikovsky’s famous score and has been performed by professional ballet companies all over the world.

Stars from movies Super Troopers and Beerfest, and members of comedy troupe Broken Lizard, Kevin and Steve will be performing on Friday and Saturday. The show “is a mix of stand up, crowd interaction and stories about their wives and kids and the making of the movies.” Tickets are $25.

Four Mile Run Valley Hands-On Design Workshop

There will be an interactive and hands-on workshop, as well as discussions among area community members about topics such as recreational improvements, parking and area character building. Refreshments will be provided.

CWP Holiday Bazaar*

This family-friendly holiday bazaar offers local crafts, activities for kids, holiday treats and a visit with Santa. There will be a silent auction featuring baskets from local businesses, so skip the mall and the web and join your neighbors for holiday fun.

This free holiday bazaar is sponsored by Washington-Lee’s class of 2017 and features over 70 local artisans. There will be gift items for sale and plenty of food. There will be live musical performances by The Madrigals and other musical groups.

FrostFest

Time: 5-8 p.m.

This holiday event features live entertainment, food samples, a firework display, a $1,000 shopping spree giveaway and much more. Pentagon Row’s ice rink includes an outdoor stone fireplace for warming up during the cold evenings and nights.

Annual Messiah Sing-Along

The Arlington Chorale will be featured at this free sing-along and attendees are strongly encouraged to bring canned goods to benefit the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). This musical event will be conducted by Dr. Nancia D’Alimonte.

Wine Dinner

Arlington’s New Deal Murals with Toby McIntosh

Toby McIntosh will discuss his book Apple Picking, Tobacco Harvesting and General Lee, which describes the Arlington post office murals. His presentation will also focus on the artist who painted the murals, Auriel Bessemer.
