Ugly Sweater Party

Hosted by the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, this party will have food and prize drawing, and 10 percent of proceeds will go toward organizing Relay for Life events in the area.

Bluegrass band Hollertown plays a benefit show for Little Friends for Peace. Tickets are $10 to see the band that plays everything from bluegrass standards to Lady Gaga perform.

Girls on the Run 5K*

This family friendly 5K takes the participants along the Potomac River, starting and ending in Rosslyn. The event is aimed at girls, ages 8-13, to foster “self-respect” and healthy living. Register here.

Kinhaven 5k and Fun Run*

Time: 9:00 a.m.-noon

A 5K and a 1K fun run to benefit the students of Kinhaven Preschool. The race goes along the W&OD trail with the families of Kinhaven cheering the runners on the whole way. Register here.

Arlington Bus Tour*

A bus tour of the sites of Arlington, including the Air Force Memorial, the Nauck neighborhood, the West Boundary Stone and the Ball-Sellers House. Tickets are $40 and are available online.

Thirty Years of Controversy and Crisis in the CIA

The photographers and filmmakers behind the Columbia Pike Documentary Project give a talk at Central Library. The event includes a Q&A and is free and open to the public.

Holiday “FUNraiser”*

The Arlington Metaphysical Chapel’s fundraiser is an all-weekend event, with a wine and cheese event on Friday night, a silent auction on Saturday and Sunday and a “bazaar” of arts and crafts all weekend long.

Rock of Ages Benefit*

St. Mary’s’ annual youth rock benefit concert this year will devote its proceeds toward responding to the Ebola crisis in West Africa. A minimum $5 donation is required. Refreshments will be served.

Haunted Drafthouse

The Drafthouse hosts a family-friendly haunted house, with the main theater dressed up as a zombie outbreak. A $5 ticket gets visitors a tour of the theater, a “treat” and a voucher for a free movie.

The Ultimate Wakefield Warrior

Members of Wakefield’s Interact service club compete in five Crossfit style exercises, all to raise money for A-SPAN. Students have already raised $700 and hope the competition will raise greater awareness.

The trail of terror returns to scare visitors for another year. Guests bring canned goods for the Arlington Food Assistance Center and get a fright in the cemetery. There’s a separate trail for children.

Free Concert: Go Go Symphony*

The Church at Clarendon hosts a free concert with the critically acclaimed Go Go Symphony, a troupe that plays D.C.’s native genre and shows where the beat doesn’t stop.
