Crime Report: Woman Wakes Up to Find Burglar in Kitchen

A woman woke up early Monday morning to find a man in her kitchen, stealing from her.

The incident happened around 3:45 a.m. at a home near East Falls Church. The suspect fled was was soon found by police and taken into custody.

From this week’s Arlington County crime report:

BURGLARY, 151207009, 2400 block of N. Potomac Street. At approximately 3:45 a.m. on December 7, a female victim awoke to an unknown male subject in her kitchen. The subject fled out the back door taking an undisclosed amount of cash. Shortly after, officers located a subject matching the suspect description and found items belonging to the victims on him. Michael Edward Thomas, 25, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with burglary, possession of a controlled substance, petit larceny, and possession of marijuana. He is being held without bond.

Crime Report: Woman Assaulted With Mug, Butter Knife

On Monday, a woman was allegedly assaulted with a mug and a butter knife in Rosslyn.

From this week’s Arlington County Police Department crime report:

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 151130008, 1300 block of N. Lee Highway. At approximately 7:35 a.m. on November 30, a 51 year-old homeless male subject assaulted a homeless female victim with a mug and stabbed her several times with a butter knife. The victim was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Gary Lynn Champagne, 51, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding.

Man Arrested for Attempted Burglary After Throwing Rock at Bank

A man was arrested over the weekend and charged with attempted burglary after throwing a rock at a Clarendon area bank.

The incident happened just after noon Sunday at the PNC Bank at 2601 Clarendon Blvd.

Police say 27-year-old Uchenna Eze threw a rock at the bank “in an attempt to steal money.” He was arrested, charged with attempted burglary and held without bond.

Crime Report: Witness Foils Robbery on Columbia Pike

A man pushed a woman to the ground and tried to take her money last Wednesday along Columbia Pike, but fled after a witness intervened.

From this week’s Arlington County crime report:

ROBBERY, 151118069, 3200 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 10:35 p.m. on November 18, a 19 year-old female victim was shoved to the ground after a male subject attempted to steal change from her. The suspect fled the scene after a witness tried to intervene. Marlow Dugger, 37, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with attempted robbery. He is being held on a $5,000 bond.

Police: Drug Conference Attendee Stripped Naked in Crystal City After a Bad Trip

(Updated at 3:40 p.m. on 12/23/21) A man attending a conference on drug policy reform stripped naked, started yelling incoherently and was ultimately tased by police during a bad trip Saturday night in Crystal City.

Police say they were called to the intersection of Crystal Drive and 18th Street around midnight Saturday night, for a report of a man standing in the roadway and acting erratically.

Upon arriving on scene, police saw 29-year-old Hector [Redacted] in a flower bed, waving his arms in the air, said Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck. [Redacted] was completely nude and sweating profusely despite the chilly temperatures, Sternbeck said.

According to police, [Redacted] ran at the first responding officer and slammed his hands on the hood of his police cruiser, all while screaming incoherently. The officer used a Taser to subdue the man and called for backup to help take him in custody.

Medics responded and sedated [Redacted] — who was under the influence of bath salts, according to a field toxicology test — to keep him from harming himself by continuing to writhe on the pavement, Sternbeck said. He was transported to Virginia Hospital Center for observation, where he continued to hallucinate and talk incoherently, according to Sternbeck.

[Redacted], a Mexican citizen, reportedly told police that he had traveled to the area for the 2015 International Drug Policy Reform Conference, which was being held in Crystal City. The conference focused in part on advocating for the legalization of marijuana.

[Redacted] was charged with disorderly conduct and held on a $10,000 bond. He remains in custody and his passport has been surrendered, said Sternbeck.

Pair of Soldiers Charged with Stealing Beer, NASCAR Shirt

Two soldiers from Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall were arrested and charged in an unusual burglary over the weekend.

The incident happened Saturday afternoon. Police say the men broke into a house on the 2100 block of 2nd Street S., near the entrance to the base, and stole an 18 pack of beer and a NASCAR sweatshirt.

The men were arrested and held at the Arlington County jail on a military detainer. From the Arlington County Police crime report:

BURGLARY, 151114050, 2100 block of S. 2nd Street. At approximately 4:45 p.m. on November 14, two subjects entered a residence and stole an 18 pack of beer and a NASCAR sweatshirt. Benjamin Wilson, 21, of Ft. Myer, VA and Alexander Heintz, 19, of Ft. Myer, VA were arrested and charged with burglary, destruction of property and larceny from auto. Both were held on a military detainer.

Crime Report: Hotel Parking Lot Streaker Arrested

A Dumfries man has been arrested after police say he was seen running naked across a hotel parking lot.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. Thursday morning, at either the Best Western or the Comfort Inn on the 2400 block of S. Glebe Road.

Unsurprisingly, the man was under the influence of drugs at the time, according to police. From an ACPD crime report:

INDECENT EXPOSURE, 151105008, 2400 block of S. Glebe Road. At approximately 2:48 a.m. on November 5, a male subject was seen running through a hotel parking lot naked. The subject appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. Kyle Andrew Anderson, 24, of Dumfries Va, was arrested and charged with indecent exposure.

JUST IN: Two Charged With Embezzling from Elementary School PTA

Two women have been arrested and charged with embezzling thousands of dollars from an elementary school PTA.

Police say Latasha Bigsby and Tanya Jones each embezzled “several thousand dollars” from the Hoffman-Boston Elementary School PTA in separate, unconnected incidents.

Both are charged with felony embezzlement, while Jones also faces a charge related to document forgery.

Bigsby stole from the PTA between 2007 and 2008, according to Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck. She was arrested Sept. 28 and has cooperated with investigators, police noted.

Bigsby was working as an administrative assistant at Hoffman-Boston, which is located in the Arlington View neighborhood along Columbia Pike. She is no longer an Arlington Public Schools employee, Assistant Superintendent Linda Erdos told ARLnow.com.

Jones was the treasurer of the Hoffman-Boston PTA, according to school documents. She’s accused of embezzling funds between 2012 and 2014. Charges against Jones stemmed from the investigation into Bigsby, police said.

Jones turned herself in to police today. An attorney for Bigsby did not respond to a request for comment.

A conviction on felony embezzlement charges is punishable by one to 20 years in prison.

BREAKING: Police Arrest Suspect in Aurora Highlands Murder Case

Arlington County Police have arrested a suspect in the April 17 stabbing death of Aurora Highlands resident Bonnie Delgado Black.

Police arrested 46-year-old David Black, the victim’s ex-husband, earlier today following a grand jury indictment. He’s charged with first degree murder and burglary.

Last month police searched Black’s house — which was several blocks from his estranged wife’s home, where she was found dead — and removed bikes and other items as evidence. Speaking to television reporters at the time, neighbors said they were nervous to have Black still living in the community.

Bonnie Black was a psychologist who did contract work for the FBI. She was found stabbed to death after her young children were found wandering outside her home by a neighbor.

From an ACPD press release:

The Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit and Tactical Unit have taken David Black, 46, of Arlington, VA, into custody pursuant to an indictment issued by a special investigative grand jury. These charges stem from the murder of his estranged wife, Bonnie Black which occurred on April 17, 2015 in the Aurora Highlands neighborhood of Arlington County. The indictment and subsequent bench warrant charges him with one count of first degree murder and one count of burglary while armed with the intent to commit a felony.

A neighbor discovered the victim’s two young children wandering outside of the home in the early morning hours of April 17, 2015. At 7:50 a.m., Arlington County Police responded to the 1100 block of 18th Street South where officers discovered the 42 year-old female victim deceased inside her residence.

A special investigative grand jury was convened by the Arlington County Circuit Court and heard evidence and testimony surrounding the murder of Bonnie Black. Today that grand jury returned an indictment against David Black and he was arrested without incident.

Man Arrested for Masturbating Near Columbia Pike Playground

(Updated at 5:55 p.m.) A 62-year-old man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly masturbating while watching kids on a playground.

The incident happened between 2:45 and 3:30 p.m., on the 1100 block of S. Quincy Street, near Columbia Pike.

Police say Michael Howard, an Arlington resident, was seen masturbating inside his apartment while peering at children at a nearby playground though a window.

Howard is a registered sex offender, according to police, something investigators learned after his arrest. He was charged with public masturbation and held without bond.
