Crime Report: Patient Fights Medical Staff, Police

It was an especially light week for crime in Arlington, with ACPD only reporting one incident significant enough for a crime report write-up over the past 7 days.

The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night at a medical office on the 2100 block of Washington Blvd — the same block as Arlington County’s public health services office.

Police say a man became combative with medical staff and then later kicked and spit on a police officer who responded to the scene, while also spitting on a second officer.

ASSAULT & BATTERY ON POLICE, 2018-06050263, 2100 block of Washington Boulevard. At approximately 9:29 p.m. on June 5, medical staff at the hospital were evaluating a subject, when the subject became disorderly and combative. Officers already on scene intervened to assist hospital staff with the subject, who then allegedly kicked and spit on one officer and spit on another officer while being restrained. Once medically cleared, the subject was transported to booking. No officers required medical treatment. Gary Champagne, 54, of No Fixed Address, was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery on Police (x2). He was held on no bond.

Crime Report: Mob Attacks Victim Who Was Taking Out the Trash

A Dominion Hills resident was attacked by a group of seven men while he was taking out the garbage.

The mob assault happened around 1 a.m. this past Sunday and resulted in the victim going to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The motive for the attack is unclear. A police spokeswoman said the department “doesn’t speculate on motive.”

ASSAULT BY MOB (late), 2018-05200018, 6100 block of Wilson Boulevard. At approximately 12:59 a.m. on May 20, police were dispatched to Virginia Hospital Center for the late report of an assault. Upon arrival, it was determined that earlier in the evening, the victim exited his residence to take the trash out and was approached by 7 unknown male suspects outside. The victim was assaulted, resulting in non-life threatening injuries that required medical treatment. There are no suspect descriptions. The investigation is ongoing.

Crime Report: Police Searching for Three Men in Connection with Alleged Mob Assault

Arlington County Police are looking for three men who they believe teamed up to assault a man near a Clarendon dog park early Sunday morning.

Police say a man was walking along N. Herndon Street at its intersection with 13th Street N. early Sunday morning (May 6) near the James Hunter Dog Park, when “three slim, light-skinned South Asian” men accosted him because they believed he was attempting to break into their car, according to a crime report.

One of the three men “grabbed an object the victim was carrying and threw it at him, causing a laceration,” police say. Spokeswoman Ashley Savage told ARLnow that the police department’s homicide/robbery unit is investigating the incident as a “malicious wounding by mob,” and is still searching for the suspects.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2018-05060043, N. Herndon Street at 13th Street N. At approximately 2:13 a.m. on May 6, police were dispatched to the report of an unknown situation. Upon arrival, it was determined that the male victim was walking in the area attempting to locate his vehicle, when three unknown male suspects approached the victim and accused him of attempting to break into their vehicle, which the victim was standing near. The victim walked away from the vehicle and the suspects continued yelling profanities at him. One suspect then grabbed an object the victim was carrying and threw it at him, causing a laceration. The three suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival. The suspects are described as three slim, light-skinned South Asian, possibly Indian males, all in their mid 20’s with black hair. One suspect was wearing a black tank top. The vehicle is described as a dark gray or black Toyota Prius, possibly with Maryland license plates. Arriving officers canvassed the area with negative results. The investigation is ongoing.

The incident was one of three “malicious woundings” reported on May 6.

ACPD Seeking Two Suspects Following Late Night Rumble at Clarendon Restaurant

Two people are wanted by Arlington County Police after a fracas at a Clarendon restaurant early Sunday morning.

Police say the incident started after 2 a.m. when a customer “became irate over the quality of service provided by the business,” then went behind a service counter and struck an employee in the head. A second suspect struck an employee who came to the aid of the first, according to police.

Officers on the Clarendon bar detail responded on foot to the scene after observing “a large crowd and loud noise inside a business.”

The police department generally does not release the name of the business in which a crime takes place, and a police spokeswoman would only describe the business as a restaurant located on the 3100 block of Clarendon Blvd. Restaurants on that block include Mister Days, Bronx Pizza, Bar Bao and Pamplona.

At approximately 2:21 a.m. on May 6, officers assigned to the Clarendon Detail observed a large crowd and loud noise inside a business. Upon investigation, it was determined that a customer became irate over the quality of service provided by the business and went behind the service counter. After being escorted back to the customer area, the suspect returned to the area behind the counter and struck one employee in the head. Additional employees came to the aid of the victim, resulting in a physical altercation and a second suspect then struck an aiding employee in the neck. Warrants for Assault and Battery and Disorderly Conduct were issued for the two suspects.

Man Charged With Hitting Parked Cars, Assaulting Police Officer

(Updated on 12/23/21 at 11:20 a.m.) A Falls Church man was arrested overnight after police say he assaulted an Arlington officer following a hit and run in Clarendon.

[Name redacted], 30, was arrested and charged with assault on police, driving under the influence, and hit and run.

The incident started around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 1100 block of N. Irving Street, which is close to several popular Clarendon bars.

[Redacted] is alleged to have struck two cars before abandoning his vehicle and leaving the scene on foot.

After officers contacted [redacted] and requested that he return to the scene, he returned by taxi but wouldn’t get out of the vehicle, according to a crime report.

At approximately 11:28 p.m. on March 27, police were dispatched to a hit and run that had just occurred. Upon arrival at the scene, officers located the striking vehicle and two parked vehicles with damage. The driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival. Officers developed a suspect description, contacted the driver and requested he return to the scene. When the suspect arrived by taxi, he refused to exit the vehicle and would not comply with the lawful commands of the officers. As the officers were attempting to secure the suspect, he allegedly became combative and struck an officer. [Redacted], 30, of Falls Church was arrested and charged with Assault on Police, Driving Under the Influence and Hit and Run. He was held on no bond.

Police: Drunken Man With Knife Charges at Security Guard

A Delaware resident is facing a series of charges after police say he got drunk, damaged property inside a Crystal City hotel and then charged at security guards with a knife.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. early Friday morning, on the 1700 block of Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1).

WEAPONS VIOLATION, 2018-03230014, 1700 block of Jefferson Davis Highway. At approximately 12:39 a.m. on March 23, police were dispatched to the report of a disorderly subject brandishing a knife. Upon arrival, it was determined that a male subject was being disorderly inside a hotel and had damaged property. When security officers attempted to intervene, the subject allegedly charged at them and made threatening statements while brandishing a knife. Arriving officers took the subject into custody. Crime Report: Rumble in the Bathroom

Two belligerents beat up a pair of bar-goers in a Buckingham bathroom Sunday, according to this week’s Arlington County Police Department crime report.

Two Arlington men in their 20s were arrested following the attacks, which allegedly stemmed from an “unprovoked verbal altercation” inside the bathroom.

The second victim was assaulted after trying to stop the initial fight, police say. The suspects were arrested later, at their home, and are being held without bond.

ASSAULT BY MOB, 2017-11190224, 200 block of N. Glebe Road. At approximately 7:15 p.m. on November 19, police were dispatched to the report of an assault that had just occurred. Upon arrival, it was determined that the two suspects allegedly initiated an unprovoked verbal altercation with the victims inside of a restaurant. When one victim went to use the bathroom, the suspects followed and assaulted him. The second victim attempted to stop the fight and was struck by the suspects. The suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival. Police developed possible identifications of the suspects and located them at their residence. Axel Tojin Nimajuan, 25, of Arlington, VA and Edgar Tojin, 23, of Arlington, VA, were arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding by Mob. Both suspects were held on no bond.

Woodbridge Man Charged with Assaulting Woman in Clarendon

A 22-year-old Woodbridge man has been charged with malicious wounding after sending a woman who tried to help him to the hospital.

The incident happened early Saturday morning in Clarendon. Police say the man was kicked out of a local bar for “being disorderly,” and a woman was trying to calm him down when he “became combative and assaulted her.” He then struck two witnesses who tried to come to the woman’s aid, according to police, before officers arrived and he was arrested.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2017-11180016, 1200 block of N. Herndon Street. At approximately 12:33 a.m. on November 18, police were dispatched to the report of a fight in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined that the suspect was removed from a restaurant for being disorderly. When the female victim attempted to calm the suspect down, he allegedly became combative and assaulted her. Two witnesses came to her aide and a physical altercation ensued where the suspect struck both witnesses. The female victim was transported to Virginia Hospital Center with non-life threatening injuries. Brandon Jordan, 22, of Woodbridge, VA, was arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding and Drunk in Public. He was held on no bond.

Man Charged With Assaulting Police Officer in County Government HQ

A man allegedly assaulted a police officer in Arlington County’s government offices after a dispute over his employment, police said.

Officers from the Arlington County Police Department responded to 2100 Clarendon Blvd on Wednesday, November 15 at around 2:35 p.m.

Department spokesman Ashley Savage said they responded to the County Manager’s office after the suspect, Vincent Moody, 52, became upset about his employment status and refused to leave. Someone by that name on LinkedIn is listed as having worked in “facilities” for Arlington County.

When police arrived he refused to comply, and as he was handcuffed he hit an officer, according to Savage.

ASSAULT ON POLICE, 2017-11150145, 2100 block of Clarendon Boulevard. At approximately 2:35 p.m. on November 15, police were dispatched to a disorderly subject inside a Government office. Upon arrival, it was determined that the subject was upset about his employment status and was refusing to leave the building. The subject refused to comply with the lawful commands of the arriving officer. As the officer was attempting to secure the subject in handcuffs, he allegedly became combative, and struck the officer. Vincent Moody, 52, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with Assault & Battery on Police, Trespassing and Obstruction of Justice.
