Driver Whacked With Bat in Road Rage Incident

Police car lightsA road rage dispute between two drivers led to one hitting the other with a baseball bat.

The incident happened Wednesday around 1:30 p.m., at the intersection of S. Glebe Road and West Glebe Road, on the Arlington-Alexandria border near I-395.

Police say a verbal dispute turned violent when one of the drivers — both drivers were men — got out of his car and smashed the other’s car window with the bat, striking him with the bat and broken glass in the process.

From an Arlington County Police crime report:

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 160309023, 1200 block of West Glebe Road. At approximately 1:36 p.m. on March 9, following a verbal altercation between two drivers, a male subject pulled out a wooden bat and swung at the victim’s car. The victim’s vehicle was damaged and he was struck with the bat. The suspect is described as a black male in his fifties, approximately 5’11” tall and weighed 125 lbs. He was wearing a short sleeved cream colored button-up shirt and green pants.

Three Men Arrested for Assaulting Uber Driver With Beer Bottle

Police car lightsThree men were arrested Saturday night after allegedly attacking an Uber driver with a beer bottle.

The incident happened just before 11 p.m. on Washington Blvd near Columbia Pike. It started, police say, after the driver picked up six passengers, then later noticed that they were drinking alcohol from open containers inside the vehicle.

“The driver could smell alcohol,” said Arlington County Police Department spokeswoman Ashley Savage.

The driver asked the passengers to stop drinking; when they refused, the driver pulled over to the side of the road near an I-395 on-ramp and “terminated the fare,” forcing all six to get out, according to Savage.

A verbal confrontation ensued. At one point, three of the passengers — all 20-something men from Woodbridge, Va. — approached the vehicle again to retrieve property they had left inside, Savage said. At that point, one of the men punched and shattered a passenger-side window, and another man struck the driver in the face with a beer bottle, police allege.

The men also allegedly tried to take the keys out of the vehicle ignition, breaking them in the process.

The three men then split with the other three passengers and walked away, Savage said. Police, working with the driver and witnesses, obtained a description of the men. A short time later, police officer on scene noticed three men in an approaching taxicab. The officer pulled over the cab, identified the men and took them into custody.

“Justin Allen Norconk, 26, of Woodbridge VA, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding and assault by mob,” according to an ACPD crime report.” Lance Daniel Ingram, 25, of Woodbridge VA, was arrested and charged with assault by mob. Jeffery Eugene Rowe Jr., 26, of Woodbridge VA, was arrested and charged with destruction of property. All three suspects are being held without bond.”

The Uber driver was treated on scene for cuts to his face.

Update at 6:05 p.m. — Uber says the two riders who split the fare for the ride have been deactivated from the platform pending an investigation. “We’ve been in touch with the driver-partner and stand ready to assist the authorities with their investigation,” said a spokeswoman.

“We are deeply committed to the safety of drivers on the Uber platform,” the company said. “Drivers benefit from many of the same transparency and accountability features that riders do, such as providing feedback and ratings for every trip, which deter bad behavior from passengers.”

Crime Report: Woman Smashes Bottle on Man’s Face in Clarendon

Police car lightsA woman hit a 27-year-old man in the face with a bottle early Saturday morning, according to this week’s Arlington County crime report.

The incident happened on the 3100 block of Wilson Blvd, in Clarendon. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. The woman left the scene and remains at large.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 160130008, 3100 block of N. Wilson Boulevard. At approximately 1:30 a.m. on January 30, an unknown subject struck a 27 year-old male victim in the face with a glass bottle. The victim was transported to Virginia Hospital Center for non-life threatening injuries. The suspect is described as a female, no further suspect description.

Police: Man Took Uber to Ex’s House to Beat Up Her New Boyfriend

(Updated at 4 p.m. on 12/23/21) A Centreville, Va. man is facing charges after police say he took an Uber to Clarendon and then proceeded to break into his ex-girlfriend’s home in order to beat up her new boyfriend.

Steve [Redacted], 25, has been charged with Assault and Battery and “Entering a Dwelling at Night with the Intent to Commit Assault and Battery,” according to Arlington County Police.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. this past Saturday, but was not reported to the authorities until the next day, said ACPD spokeswoman Ashley Savage.

Police say [Redacted] took an Uber ride with a friend to the 1200 block of N. Danville Street. He broke into the house, entered his ex-girlfriend’s bedroom and began punching the man in bed with his ex, said Savage.

Both victims fled the house. [Redacted] then allegedly punched a hole in the wall, before leaving the house to search for the victims. Upon finding them, he began repeatedly punching the man again, Savage said.

[Redacted’s] friend, who was waiting in the Uber, saw what was happening and ran over to calm down [Redacted] and break up the fracas, said Savage. The victims again fled, running down the street, and [Redacted] and his friend reportedly got back into the Uber and left the scene. A roommate of the female victim eventually picked her and her boyfriend up and brought them back to the house.

The male victim did not have visible injuries when he reported the crime on Sunday, but did report lumps on his head, according to Savage. [Redacted] was arrested and now faces the two misdemeanor charges. His next court date is scheduled for April 5.

Crime Report: Young Man Gropes Butt, Teen Smashes Mug on Man’s Head

A young man groped a woman’s butt while she was walking in the Columbia Heights West neighborhood last Friday morning.

From this week’s Arlington County crime report:

SEXUAL BATTERY, 160108021, 700 block of S. Dinwiddie Street. At approximately 10:36 a.m. on January 8, an unknown male subject approached a female from behind and groped her buttocks. The suspect is described as a younger male, approximately 5’6″ and weighed 160 lbs. He was wearing a blue hoodie, green/grey cargo pants, and gray shoes.

This past weekend, a Bethesda teen was arrested after allegedly smashing a mug on a man’s head in Clarendon. According to court records, the teen’s defense attorney is state Sen. Scott Surovell.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 160109003, 3000 block of N. Wilson Boulevard. At approximately 1:04 a.m. on January 9, following a verbal altercation, a 19 year-old male victim was allegedly hit over the head with a glass mug. The victim was transported to the hospital with non- life threatening injuries. Jarett Witzal, 18, of Bethesda MD was arrested and charged with malicious wounding.

Homeowner Struck With Bottle During Lyon Village Burglary

Scene of an morning assault in Lyon Village, at N. Adams Street(Updated at 3:55 p.m.) Police have released new information about an attack in Lyon Village that sent a man to the hospital with a serious head injury.

Arlington County Police say that the victim, who was struck in the head with a bottle, was a homeowner who discovered a man in his house during a residential burglary.

The incident happened around 10 a.m. on the 1800 block of N. Adams Street, near the intersection with Lee Highway.

Police say the victim was at home during the break-in, but at first didn’t hear the suspect. When he discovered the burglar in the house, he confronted him and a struggle ensued in the kitchen.

During the struggle, the suspect grabbed a bottle and hit the victim over the head with it, causing a “severe laceration,” according to Arlington County Police spokeswoman Ashley Savage. The suspect then fled on food.

The homeowner, bleeding profusely, made his way to a neighbor’s house. The neighbor then called police to report the assault.

The victim was transported via ambulance to Virginia Hospital Center with what’s described as a non-life-threatening injury. Police found a large amount of blood on the ground, including on the neighbor’s front step, and recovered a pair of bloody gloves, according to scanner traffic.

Police are still investigating the incident but currently believe that the attacker did not know the victim. The suspect is described as a 5’7″ black male in his 50s.

Earlier in the investigation, police said that they believed the victim was struck while walking down the street.

Man Arrested for Doing Lines of Cocaine Off of Table at Clarendon Pizza Shop

William Donovan (photo courtesy ACPD)A man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly doing lines of cocaine off of a table at Goody’s restaurant in Clarendon.

The incident happened just before 3 a.m. Police say 26-year-old William Donovan of Vienna, Va. was sitting by himself at a table in the tiny pizzeria, snorting cocaine. A uniformed Arlington County police officer who was standing nearby witnessed the alleged drug use and went to arrest Donovan.

At that point Donovan, who police say was highly intoxicated, defiantly said something to the effect of “I’m going home tonight,” and took a “fighting stance,” according to ACPD spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

Donovan began kicking and punching the officer, prompting a witness to jump in and help restrain him while additional officers sped to the scene, Sternbeck said.

Donovan was charged with possession of cocaine, two counts of assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice, according to Sternbeck, and is being held without bond.

He “eventually apologized while being transported to jail,” Sternbeck noted.

Crime Report: Woman Assaulted With Mug, Butter Knife

On Monday, a woman was allegedly assaulted with a mug and a butter knife in Rosslyn.

At approximately 7:35 a.m. on November 30, a 51 year-old homeless male subject assaulted a homeless female victim with a mug and stabbed her several times with a butter knife. The victim was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Gary Lynn Champagne, 51, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding.

Crime Report: Man Struck in Face By Wine Bottle

Arlington County police car(Updated at 1:05 p.m.) A barbecue in the Donaldson Run neighborhood turned violent last Saturday.

Police say a 26-year-old man suffered two large wounds after being struck in the face with a wine bottle.

From this week’s Arlington County crime report:

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 151010037, 4000 block of N. Lorcom Lane. At approximately 9:30 p.m. on October 10, a 26 year-old male victim was struck in the face with a wine bottle during a BBQ, causing two large lacerations to his head. The victim was transported to Virginia Hospital Center with non-life threatening injuries. Melissa Michelle Fredericks, 43, of Arlington VA, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding.

Police: Man Chokes Clerk, Smashes Display Cases After Returning Engagement Ring

Kay Jewelers store (photo via Kay Jewelers)An enraged man assaulted an employee and smashed glass display cases after returning an engagement ring to the Kay Jewelers store at the Pentagon City mall this morning, according to police.

Arlington County officers responded to the store just after 11:35 a.m., after receiving a frantic 911 call about an assault in progress.

Police say a homeless man, 34-year-old Monbain Brown, had earlier in the day returned a $4,000 engagement ring after having a change of heart about the purchase. He returned shortly thereafter and “engaged in a verbal altercation with one of the workers behind the display case because the money had not showed up in his account yet,” according to ACPD spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

Brown became increasingly agitated during the argument before jumping the counter and beginning to strangle the female employee, Sternbeck said.

Mondaine Brown (photo courtesy ACPD)Customers inside the store watched the scuffle but did not intervene. Finally, a male employee came out and placed Brown in a chokehold, resulting in all three tumbling to the ground, according to Sternbeck.

After several minutes of Brown being held in the chokehold, said Sternbeck, a mall security guard arrived and asked the employee to let him go. At that time, Brown allegedly began chasing the female employee around the store. After being unable to catch her, Brown slammed his fist down on the jewelry display cases, breaking two of them, Sternbeck said. He then proceeded to smoke a cigarette inside the store and wait for police to arrive.

Brown was arrested and is being held without bond. He is charged with strangulation, destruction of property and assault and battery.

A surveillance camera caught the entire incident on video, Sternbeck noted.
