Surveillance Photos from Morning Robbery Released

  Arlington Police are asking for your help with finding a man who robbed a Ballston bank this morning.

A man entered the Presidential Bank at 901 N. Stuart Street at 10:11am and demanded money from a teller.  He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is described as a black male with facial hair, in his late 40’s, 5’6” with a medium build. At the time of the robbery he wore a white short-sleeved polo shirt, light colored pants, a white baseball cap and dark shoes. The suspect also had a light colored towel draped over his shoulder.

Updated at 12:18pm  Police are are looking for a man who robbed the BB&T bank at 6120A Arlington Boulevard in Falls Church. The suspect was reportedly seen fleeing the scene on foot wearing a surgical mask. There was a report that he was seen in the area of Upton Hill Regional Park.

This bank was hit earlier this month, also by a man wearing a surgical mask.

Arlington County Police are also on the lookout for the suspect.

BB&T Bank Robbed in Seven Corners

Another BB&T Bank branch has been robbed, this time in Falls Church.

Arlington Police have been told to be on the lookout for a man who robbed the BB&T branch at 6120A Arlington Boulevard, in Seven Corners. The man was wearing a surgical mask at the time of the robbery and implied that he had a weapon, police have been told.

Three BB&T branches have been robbed in Arlington alone so far this year.

Police have released more information about yesterday afternoon’s armed robbery of the Wachovia Bank in Courthouse.

The Arlington County Police Department’s Robbery Unit is seeking the public’s help to identify a man who robbed an Arlington bank yesterday afternoon.

The suspect entered the Wachovia/Wells Fargo Bank in the 2000 block of Wilson Boulevard at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2011. He displayed handgun and demanded money. After receiving cash, the suspect fled on foot.

The suspect is described as an African American male in his late 20’s, 5’10” and 160 lbs. At the time of the robbery he wore a black hooded sweatshirt with silver writing on the front, black pants, and a mask over most of his face. The suspect was also carrying a dark colored bag.

The crime was the third bank robbery in Arlington so far this month. The first two occurred at BB&T Bank branches in Clarendon and on Lee Highway. The suspect in those robberies was described by police as a white male in his 50s.

BREAKING NEWS — Bank Robbery in Courthouse

(Updated at 4:50 p.m.) Police responded to an armed robbery at the Wachovia Bank in Courthouse (2026 Wilson Boulevard) this afternoon.

Initial reports suggest that a man armed with a handgun robbed the bank around 3:30 p.m. He fled the scene and has not been located. No one was injured.

This is the third bank robbery reported in Arlington this month.

Bank Robbery on Lee Highway Prompts School Lockdowns

The BB&T Bank at 5515 Lee Highway was robbed around lunchtime today.

The suspect fled the bank on foot, prompting authorities to lock down at least two schools in the area. Parents of Nottingham Elementary and Williamsburg Middle School students received the following message from administrators today.

Today at approximately 12:20 p.m. we were alerted by the Arlington Police about a bank robbery nearby at Lee Highway and Harrison Street. The suspect reportedly left the bank on foot.

As a precaution, the schools “secured the building,” which means all students came indoors from recess, PE or other outside activities. At the same time, we made plans for students to either remain securely in the relocatables or to move into the main building. All exterior doors were locked and classes continued inside. Approximately 30 minutes later, the Police called again to give us the “all clear” and we resumed normal operations.

This is the third reported robbery of a BB&T Bank so far this year. BB&T branches in Rosslyn and Clarendon have been robbed over of the course of the past six months.

Update at 3:55 p.m. — Arlington Public Schools spokesman Frank Bellavia says that the response to the incident did not meet the school system’s definition of a “lock-down,” in which classrooms are locked. Rather, the APS student handbook defines the actions taken today as a “secure the building” response.

UPDATED: Bank Robbery in Clarendon

(Updated at 4:15 p.m.) Police are investigating bank robbery in Clarendon.

A man robbed the BB&T branch at 3001 N. Washington Blvd just before noon, according to police. A witness told officers that the man ran north on N. Garfield Street just after the robbery. Police searched the area, including the Clarendon Metro station, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Police issued the following statement about the robbery this afternoon.

The suspect entered the BB&T Bank in the 3000 block of Washington Boulevard at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2011. He displayed a note demanding money, and implied a weapon. After receiving cash, the suspect fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid 50’s, 6 foot tall and 180 lbs. At the time of the robbery, he wore baseball cap hat, a red wig, glasses, a white and brown plaid button down shirt and khaki pants.

Arlington Police Seek Rosslyn Bank Robbery Suspects

Police have released surveillance images of the two masked men who robbed a BB&T bank in Rosslyn yesterday afternoon, just two hours before the snow started falling.

Police say a portion of the money was recovered thanks to a dye pack, which exploded as the men fled the scene.

ARLINGTON, VA. – The Arlington County Police Department’s Robbery Unit is seeking the public’s help to identify two men who robbed an Arlington bank this afternoon.

Two suspects entered a BB&T bank in the 1900 block of Fort Myer Drive at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2011. One suspect demanded money, while the other suspect displayed a handgun. Once the suspects received currency, they fled from the bank.

Both suspects were African American men of average height and weight, wearing all dark clothing. They also wore items covering their faces. Shortly after the robbery, a portion of money was recovered, and the red dye pack had apparently been set off.

BREAKING NEWS — BB&T Bank Robbed in Rosslyn

(Updated at 3:05 p.m.) An armed robbery has been reported at the BB&T Bank in Rosslyn.

Initial reports suggest two men robbed the bank, located on the 1900 block of Fort Myer Drive, around 1:40 p.m. One of the men was armed with a gun, police were told.

The men were seen fleeing from the scene. Police radio reported that the men dropped the money after a dye pack exploded in the nearby Holiday Inn parking lot.

Police set up a perimeter and used dogs to try to track the suspects. So far, the suspects remain at large.

As commenters have pointed out, the BB&T Bank branch robbed today was also robbed in 2008.

Bank Robbery in South Arlington

(Update at 2:40 p.m.) The BB&T Bank at 2947 South Glebe Road was just robbed. According to scanner traffic, a suspect passed a note implying he had a gun, but no weapon was seen.

The suspect is described as a six-foot tall black male in his 30s or 40s with scruffy facial hair. He was wearing a blue jacket, a black backpack and a beanie hat.

Gunston Middle School and Oakridge Elementary School were briefly locked down following the robbery as a precaution.

Police Alerted to Bank Robbery in McLean

Arlington County Police have been alerted to a bank robbery that occurred in McLean within the hour.

According to a police lookout, the Wachovia Bank at 1300 Chain Bridge Road was robbed by a man wearing a white mask and holding a black handgun.

It’s standard procedure for police departments to be notified about bank robberies in surrounding jurisdictions.

Update at 1:40 p.m. — Police describe the suspect as a black male in his mid to late 30s, about 5’8″ and between 150 and 170 pounds. He was reportedly wearing an “elderly white man” costume mask and dark clothing, according to the Falls Church News-Press.
