DEVELOPING: Bus Crashes into Pentagon City Apartment Building

(Updated at 9:35 a.m.) A PRTC commuter bus smashed into the side of the Lenox Club apartment building in Pentagon City Wednesday evening.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m., along 12th Street S. The bus, which was not carrying passengers at the time, hopped the curb, struck the front of a convertible and ran into a storefront on the side of the building.

Three people were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Arlington County Police spokeswoman Ashley Savage. Among those injured were the bus driver, a pedestrian and one person who was inside the building, Savage said.

Structural engineers have been called to inspect the base of the high-rise building, which remained open for residents. 12th Street S. between Army Navy Drive and S. Eads Street remains closed while police investigate the crash.

No word yet on whether the driver will face any charges.

Car Crashes into Storefront on Columbia Pike

Someone behind the wheel of a car crashed into another car in a parking lot off of Columbia Pike this afternoon, before crashing into a nearby storefront.

The collision happened at the TitleMax Title Loans business at 3045 Columbia Pike just after 2 p.m. today.

The driver of the car, who didn’t want to give her name, said the vehicle lurched forward three times on its own while she was at the wheel. It then collided with a second car and smashed the front window of the store.

A handful of customers at the next-door McDonald’s told ARLnow.com they heard a loud bang. One person suffered a minor injury in the crash, according to scanner traffic. Authorities did not close any roads nearby.

A Subway restaurant, an Allstate insurance agent and the Ethio Cafe are in the same plaza. None of the other stores were affected by the crash.

Car Plows Into Front of Cherrydale 7-Eleven

A car slammed through the front of the 7-Eleven store at 3901 Lee Highway in Cherrydale Friday night.

The crash happened just before 10 p.m. No injuries were reported.

This morning the large plate glass window shattered by the car was boarded up, awaiting replacement.

Car Slams into Garage Door at Courthouse Condo Building

The driver of a car ran into the garage door to the Woodbury Heights condo building in Courthouse this morning.

The crash happened around 11 a.m., on 13th Street N. just a block from Arlington County Police headquarters. No significant injuries were reported.

The car that crashed into the garage door, an Infiniti, suffered front end damage.

A man in his mid-30s was helping an older man out of the back of the car when an ARLnow.com intern arrived on scene. “Photos are over,” the man said before walking back into the building.

Another Car Slams into Building Near Fairlington

A Mini Cooper slammed into the front of the Capital One Bank on King Street near Fairlington this morning.

The incident happened around 10 a.m. It was the second time the driver of a vehicle lost control and crashed into a retailer at the Bradlee Shopping Center in the past two weeks. An SUV drove through the front of the shopping plaza’s Hallmark store on Friday, May 20.

Some damage to the bank’s row of ATMs was visible. No injuries were reported.

Arlington County firefighters assisted Alexandria units at the scene.

SUV Smashes into Hallmark Store Near Fairlington

(Updated at 12:50 p.m.) An SUV smashed through the front of the Hallmark store at the Bradlee Shopping Center near Fairlington around noon today.

Firefighters from Arlington County were dispatched to assist Alexandria units on scene, but no injuries and no serious structural damage was reported. The area was closed off to shoppers while crews worked to remove the SUV from its final resting spot, most of the way into the store.

The store is located at 3670 King Street in Alexandria, near the center of the strip mall shopping center.

Whole Foods Wall Partially Destroyed

A portion of the low brick wall outside of the Clarendon Whole Foods was smashed by a shopper who apparently mistook the gas pedal for the brake.

The incident happened recently on the N. Edgewood Street side of the store’s surface parking lot. We’re told the shopper was either trying to park to trying to exit the parking space, but ended up hopping the curb and slamming into the wall instead, knocking over a large section of bricks.

(None of the cars pictured were involved in the accident.)

No injuries were reported. The smashed section of wall is now cordoned off by yellow caution tape.

(Updated at 11:25 a.m.) A car slammed into the front porch of a house in Lyon Park Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m., near the intersection of 4th Street N. and N. Irving Street.

According to a witness, a car was crossing Pershing Drive on Irving when it was T-boned by a car heading eastbound on Pershing. One of the vehicles, a four door Honda sedan, then hopped a curb and ran into the front right corner of the house.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters worked for several hours to shore up the porch so the car could be removed, we’re told.

Car Knocks Down Pole, Runs into Apartment Building in Buckingham

A serious-looking crash temporarily closed N. George Mason Drive this afternoon, but no serious injuries were reported.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m., just north of the intersection of N. George Mason Drive and Pershing Drive, in the Buckingham neighborhood.

A driver in a car somehow knocked over a light pole in the center median of George Mason Drive, then drove over a sidewalk and up an embankment before running into a two-story brick apartment building.

The building was not significantly damaged. George Mason Drive was closed while a tow truck driver maneuvered and used a chain to pull the car from the embankment and back onto the street. The road has since reopened.

A second vehicle that was reported to be involved in the crash was pulled over by police one block away from the accident scene.

In a separate incident that happened around the same time, the top of a utility pole with live wires snapped and fell down in the Lyon Village neighborhood, prompting several street closures. From Arlington Alerts:

SUV Rams into Bluemont Nail Salon

The driver of an SUV accidentally rammed her vehicle into a Bluemont nail salon this morning.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash, which occurred just before 11:00 a.m. The Acura MDX smashed through the front window of the Hollywood Nails Spa at 5510 Wilson Blvd, in a small shopping center next to Arlington Pharmacy.

Building inspectors are currently on scene assessing the damage, which included some smashed bricks and a broken front door. The nail salon — which is also home to a beauty academy — is roped off by caution tape.

One employee was inside the business at the time of the incident, near the back of the store, according to the salon’s owner. No word yet on when the store will reopen nor whether the driver, who appeared to be in her 30s, would face any charges.

“Remember, the brake is on the left,” Arlington County Police said, in a tweet.

Car Slams Into BB&T Bank Near Columbia Pike

(Updated at 10:45 a.m.) A car slammed into the side of an Arlington bank on Saturday.

The incident happened before noon at the BB&T Bank (1100 S. Walter Reed Drive) near Columbia Pike.

No one was injured when the car rammed the bank, nearly running through a set of double doors, according to the local firefighter association Twitter account. No structural damage to the building was reported.

The crash was “a classic case of mistaking the gas pedal for the brake,” said Arlington County police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck. The vehicle struck a parked car before crashing into the bank’s ATM vestibule.

The driver was charged with reckless driving, according to Sternbeck.
