Crash Upends Pickup Truck on Route 110

An apparent rear-end collision between a coupe and a pickup truck resulted in the coupe picking up the rear of the truck.

The crash happened this morning on Route 110, which runs from Rosslyn to the Pentagon. No injuries were reported.

The Arlington County Fire Department tweeted photos of the crash to remind residents to drive safely, particularly today on Arlington’s annual Bike and Walk to School Day.

The eastbound lanes of Wilson Blvd are closed approaching central Rosslyn due to a tractor trailer accident this morning.

Earlier this morning a large truck drove onto the sidewalk in front of the Commonwealth Tower office building at 1300 Wilson Blvd. Photos show the truck in the process of being removed by heavy duty towing crews.

No injuries were reported, though authorities warned of “significant traffic delays” during the morning rush hour due to the closure. Most of the delays, according to a traffic map, are on Clarendon Blvd and side streets west of the crash scene, at the intersection of Wilson Blvd and Ft. Myer Drive.

The circumstances that led to the truck driving onto the sidewalk are unclear.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Crash on Southbound I-395

Expect delays heading from D.C. into Virginia via the 14th Street Bridge due to a crash on southbound I-395.

The four-vehicle crash, involving a pickup truck and three other vehicles, happened near the exit to Route 1 and is currently blocking three middle lanes. Traffic is squeezing by on either side, trying to avoid debris in the roadway.

Firefighters have arrived on scene to evaluate possible injuries.

(Updated at 12:10 p.m.) A trash truck smashed into a half dozen cars near Rosslyn this morning.

The crash was reported just after 11 a.m., at the intersection of N. Nash Street and the Arlington Blvd access road, in Ft. Myer Heights.

The truck was going up the steep hill on N. Nash Street when it lost its momentum and started rolling down, according to Arlington County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Ben O’Bryant.

On the way down it struck five vehicles, destroyed part of a stone wall and came to a stop in an apartment building parking lot. It also pushed at least one vehicle over a retaining wall and onto the street and sidewalk below.

Police and firefighters are on scene and the intersection is closed to traffic during the cleanup. The driver of the truck is currently being evaluated for injuries, O’Bryant said.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Crash Closes Washington Blvd at Glebe Road

Washington Blvd is currently closed to traffic due to a crash at the intersection with N. Glebe Road, near Ballston.

Initial reports suggest two vehicles — a car and a pickup truck — were involved in a T-bone crash. The driver of the car needed to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters.

Southbound Glebe is currently open to traffic but the northbound lanes are closed, as are all lanes of Washington Blvd approaching the intersection.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Overturned Vehicle Reported on GW Parkway

(Updated at 4 p.m.) A vehicle has overturned on the GW Parkway near the Roosevelt Bridge.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. Initial reports suggest the vehicle crossed several lanes of traffic before running off the side of the southbound GW Parkway.

The vehicle overturned and came to rest on the driver’s side. The occupant of the vehicle was able to get out and was not reported to be seriously injured.

Southbound traffic is slow approaching the crash scene, backing up well past the Key Bridge.

Tree Falls on Car Near H-B Woodlawn

(Updated at 5:15 p.m.) A tree fell on a car in the Donaldson Run neighborhood Friday afternoon, amid the ongoing wind storm.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on the 4200 block of Vacation Lane, not far from the Stratford building that houses the H-B Woodlawn Secondary Program.

Initial reports suggest that a tree fell on a car, trapping the driver inside and sending live power lines down across the street. Firefighters were able to extricate the driver, who was reportedly not injured, within about 15 minutes.

Vacation Lane is expected to remain closed for an extended period of time, awaiting the power and tree removal crews.

Vehicle Flips on Side in Lyon Park Crash

A collision at a busy intersection in Lyon Park blocked traffic during the Monday evening rush hour.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m., at the intersection of N. Daniel Street and 10th Street N. One vehicle, a Volvo XC70, tipped to its side while a Mitsubishi Eclipse was severely damaged.

Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene, though no serious injuries were reported, according to the police scanner. The intersection was temporarily blocked by emergency vehicles; it reopened around 5:45 p.m.

At least two vehicle occupants were walking around the closed-off intersection speaking with police and taking photos of the crash.

Winter Weather Advisory Issued as Slushy Roads Cause Problems

(Updated at 5:40 p.m.) A winter storm with mixed precipitation is turning out to be more snowy than expected inside the Beltway.

Arlington and the rest of metro D.C. has been added to a Winter Weather Advisory that had previously included points north and west of the city.

Around parts of Arlington and Alexandria surveyed by ARLnow.com, even treated roads and sidewalks were slushy as sleet and snow continued to fall in the early evening. A transition to rain is expected before the bulk of the precipitation moves out by midnight.

A number of crashes are being reported throughout the county, many attributed to slippery conditions. In Courthouse, police were considering closing 14th Street N. at N. Uhle Street due to cars “sliding down the hill.” On the northern end of Glebe Road, a crash was reported to be snarling traffic near Chain Bridge.

Light Pole Knocked Over in Clarendon

A light pole was struck by a vehicle in Clarendon and knocked to the ground, but luckily no one was hurt.

The accident happened around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday morning. Initial reports suggest that a box truck hit the pole, in front of Moby Dick House of Kabob (3000 Washington Blvd), sending it crashing down onto the sidewalk.

The glass light covers shattered across the walkway. No injuries were reported and the sidewalk was blocked off by police pending a cleanup.
