Arlington Police Officer Hurt in Route 50 Crash

An Arlington County police officer was hospitalized this afternoon after his car was struck while responding to a call.

The crash happened around 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of Arlington Blvd (Route 50) and N. Pershing Drive.

The officer was responding to a domestic violence call involving a possible weapon and was turning onto Arlington Blvd from Pershing when his cruiser was “T-boned” by a vehicle traveling westbound on Route 50, according to ACPD spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

The officer was transported to Virginia Hospital Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was treated by paramedics on scene, Sternbeck said.

So far no charges have been filed. Police plan on reviewing footage from the cruiser’s dashboard camera as part of their investigation, which is still ongoing, Sternbeck said.

The injured officer has been on the force for fewer than three years, we’re told.

Westbound Route 50 was closed for about an hour while the scene was cleaned up and police investigated the accident.

Two Hurt, SUV Overturns in Crash Near Pentagon City Mall

(Updated at 4:10 p.m.) Police and firefighters are on the scene of an crash involving an overturned vehicle in Pentagon City.

The crash was reported around 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of S. Hayes Street and 15th Street S., near Pentagon City mall. Two vehicles were involved, a white work van and a small Honda SUV.

At least one person was trapped in the overturned vehicle and was extricated by firefighters. She was transported to the trauma center at George Washington University Hospital.

Another victim suffered less significant injuries and was transported to Virginia Hospital Center, according to scanner traffic.

Both directions of 15th Street were closed following the crash. The road is expected to reopen shortly, after crews clear the wreckage.

Crash at Pershing Drive Closes SB Glebe Road

(Updated at 2:25 p.m.) Southbound Glebe Road was temporarily closed at N. Pershing Drive, just south of Ballston, due to a crash this afternoon.

An SUV broadsided another SUV in the intersection just before 1:30 p.m.

One person in the SUV that was struck was reported injured in the crash and was transported to the hospital via ambulance. The injuries are not reported to be life-threatening.

Glebe Road has since reopened. Absorbent material can be seen in the middle of the intersection, placed there to sop up fluids that leaked as a result of the crash.

Police say Jessie Kim, 25, assaulted the new owner of what had formerly been his family’s dry cleaning business. Kim is also accused of destroying the owner’s phone and other property before driving off in a silver BMW. [WJLA]

Bus Accident in Ballston — A minor collision between an ART bus and a Metrobus happened around 5:00 p.m. yesterday in front of the Ballston Metro station. No injuries were reported.

NB I-395 HOV Lane Blocked Due to Crash

Crash on I-395 HOV lanesOne northbound HOV lane of I-395 just before the 14th Street Bridge is blocked due to a crash.

The crash appears to involve 2-3 vehicles, including a D.C. taxicab. Initial reports suggest the driver of one car is hurt and may have needed assistance to get out of the vehicle.

Drivers should expect delays in both the HOV lanes and the northbound mainline.

Whole Foods Eying Ballston Development? — Whole Foods is reportedly considering leasing a 43,000 square foot retail space in a new 12-story, 431-unit apartment building that’s set to replace the Rosenthal Mazda dealership at the corner of N. County to Seek Ballston Mall Partnership — Arlington County is moving quickly to try to come up with a public-private partnership for the redevelopment of Ballston Common Mall. County Board members said Tuesday that they believe the redevelopment will bring important economic benefits. “To not reinvest is to watch the death, I think, of Ballston,” said County Board Chair Mary Hynes. SUV Runs into Forklift on Back of Truck in Ballston

(Updated at 12:00 p.m.) The driver of an SUV ran into a forklift on the back of a flatbed tractor trailer in Ballston around 11:00 this morning.

The incident happened on N. Glebe Road near the I-66 ramp. Photos show the hood of the SUV crumpled under the back of the forklift.

As of 11:55 a.m., southbound Glebe Road was closed at 13th Street N. as crews worked to clear the scene. Initial reports suggest one person suffered minor injuries in the wreck.

Two Seriously Hurt in Multi-Vehicle Wreck on I-395

Multi-vehicle accident on I-395 on 6/12/15(Updated at 8:35 a.m.) Northbound I-395 was down to one lane this morning near the Pentagon, approaching the 14th Street Bridge, due to a multi-vehicle accident.

The crash involved a box truck, a van and a car. Three people were brought to the hospital, two with serious injuries and one with minor injuries, according to the Arlington County Fire Department.

Numerous emergency vehicle were on the scene as crews worked to clear the wreck. Traffic on I-395 backed up past Landmark.

One Hurt After SUV Overturns Near Route 50

One person was hurt this morning after an SUV flipped on its side on a neighborhood street just north of Route 50.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on the 10 block of N. Irving Street, between the Ashton Heights and Lyon Park neighborhoods.

Officials say the driver of a Ford SUV lost control and struck a pole, which then caused the vehicle to flip on its side, trapping the driver inside.

Arlington County Fire Department rescue crews responded and extricated the trapped individual, who suffered minor injuries and was transported to Virginia Hospital Center as a precaution, according to ACFD spokeswoman Lt. Sarah Marchegiani.

Irving Street was closed in both directions while crews freed and treated the patient.

Motorcyclist Hurt in Crash Near Lee-Harrison Shopping Center

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash in front of the Lee-Harrison Shopping Center over the weekend.

The incident happened just before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, on Harrison Street. There’s no official word yet on the exact circumstances of the crash, but police say a blue SUV was involved.

The man riding the motorcycle could not get up and remained down in the middle of the roadway following the wreck. A nurse who was in the area rendered aid before police and medics arrived on scene, according to Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

The man suffered significant but non-life-threatening injuries, Sternbeck said, and was transported to the Level 1 trauma center at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
