(Updated at 10:35 a.m.) A portion of N. Glebe Road between Ballston and Langston Blvd was blocked this morning after a serious crash.
A car appears to have collided head-on with a motorcycle, seriously injuring the motorcycle rider. The exact circumstances around the crash are unclear.
The motorcyclist was reported to be conscious but “pretty banged up” when he was rushed to a local hospital. Both the striking car and the motorcycle were heavily damaged by the force of the collision.
Detectives remain on scene investigating. No charges have been filed as of yet.
The motorcyclist is expected to survive, according to police.
“At approximately 8:57 a.m. on August 3, police were dispatched to N. Woodrow Street at N. Glebe Road for the report of a two vehicle crash with injuries,” Arlington County Police Department spokeswoman Ashley Savage tells ARLnow. “The motorcyclist has been transported to an area hospital with injuries considered serious but non-life threatening. The driver of the sedan remained on scene. Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.”
Glebe Road was expected to remain at least partially blocked between N. Woodrow Street and Langston Blvd for much of the morning as a result of the investigation and the crash cleanup effort. It reopened shortly after 10:30 a.n.

One Arrested After Robbery — “The juvenile male victim and the three juvenile male suspects met for a prearranged sale during which the suspects assaulted the victim and stole his backpack containing a laptop. Spa Day for Rescued Beagles — “A group of rescued beagles got a special ‘spa day’ treatment after they arrived at a shelter in Arlington, Virginia. A man crashed his Subaru into a Courthouse office building this afternoon.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. at the National Science Teaching Association building at 1840 Wilson Blvd, in the alley between Wilson and Clarendon boulevards.
The front of the Subaru went through a brick wall and into the building, but no one inside the building was reported to be hurt.
The middle-aged male driver of the car appeared disoriented as he was being pulled out of the driver’s seat by firefighters. He was taken on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance and on to a local hospital.
It’s unclear what caused the crash and whether the driver might have suffered a medical emergency.
The fire department’s technical rescue team remains on scene, shoring up the brick wall which was damaged as a result of the crash.

New Way to Complain About Helo Noise –Those with concerns about helicopter noise in the local area now have a new outlet to provide feedback. A new helicopter-complaint pilot program was announced June 24 by U.S. Rep. Don Beyer (D-8th) in collaboration with the Helicopter Association International and Eastern Regional Helicopter Council. Arrest After Crash on the Pike — From ACPD spokeswoman Ashley Savage, responding to an ARLnow inquiry about this crash: “At approximately 12:10 p.m. on June 27, police were dispatched to the report of a crash with injuries at the intersection of Columbia Pike and S. Quincy Street. The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the striking vehicle hit two vehicles and a tree before fleeing the scene on foot. Responding officers canvassed the area, located the driver and took her into custody. One patient was transported to an area hospital with injuries considered non-life threatening. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.”

Old Dominion Drive is closed after a crash involving an overturned vehicle.
The two-vehicle crash was reported around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Old Dominion Drive and 23rd Street N., a few blocks south of Marymount University.
The circumstances leading to the crash are unclear, but it left a Honda SUV flipped on its roof. No serious injuries were reported.
The road remains closed during the evening rush hour due to the cleanup effort.

Earlier: Northbound lanes of the GW Parkway are closed for an investigation after a serious crash.
The crash happened along the Parkway, just north of N. Glebe Road, around 5:30 p.m.
One person was trapped in a vehicle and rescued by firefighters. They were brought via ambulance to a local hospital.
The northbound lanes were still closed as of 6:15 p.m. and are expected to remain closed for an extended period of time for a crash investigation, according to U.S. Park Police. Traffic is being diverted onto Spout Run Parkway.

Update at 1:45 p.m. — The crash has been cleared and the lanes reopened.
Earlier: Traffic from the northbound GW Parkway is being diverted onto Spout Run Parkway due to a crash.
A crash and reported fire has closed the Parkway’s northbound lanes at the first scenic overlook in Arlington. Drivers caught between the crash and Spout Run are sitting at a standstill.
So far there’s no additional word on the nature of the crash or on injuries.

A particularly sharp bend in the GW Parkway near Key Bridge has claimed another vehicular victim
An SUV overturned in the southbound lanes around 1:15 p.m., blocking all lanes and causing a backup that still extends as far north as the Windy Run bridge as of 2 p.m. The driver was able to get out on their own after the crash and was evaluated for injuries by Arlington medics.
Reported as a single-vehicle crash, it happened amid rainy weather in a part of the Parkway that has seen numerous crashes in both directions. It appears that this afternoon’s crash damaged temporary concrete barriers set up in front of the permanent wooden barriers that had been damaged by a previous crash.
Arlington firefighters and U.S. Park Police both responded to the scene. Continued southbound delays are expected until crews can complete the clean up process.
Update at 2:55 p.m. — The earlier closure has been lifted and delays have dissipated.

A beemer barbecue following a single-vehicle crash closed part of S. Joyce Street near Pentagon City this morning.
The circumstances leading to the crash, which heavily damaged the BMW before it burst into flames, are unclear. The crash happened around 6 a.m. and left the male driver with facial injuries, according to scanner traffic.
The driver was reportedly able to get out the car before firefighters arrived on scene. He was brought to a local hospital for treatment.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze shortly after their arrival. Both lanes of S. Joyce Street heading from Army Navy Drive to Columbia Pike were blocked by the emergency response and cleanup.
