Crime Report: Man Tried to Run Over Woman As She Crossed Street With Child

A man tried to run over a woman with his car, while she was crossing a street with her child, according to this week’s Arlington County Police crime report.

The incident happened Monday afternoon in the Nauck neighborhood. Warrants have been issued for the suspect on charges of attempted malicious wounding and destruction of property, according to police.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2017-05010138, 2400 block of S. Kenmore Street. At approximately 1:20 p.m. on May 1, officers responded to the report of an attempted malicious wounding. Upon arrival, it was determined a known male subject attempted to strike a female victim with his vehicle while she was walking across the street with her child. The female victim fell to the ground in an attempt to move out of the way. The subject then fled the scene in the vehicle. Warrants have been obtained for attempted malicious wounding and destruction of property. The investigation is ongoing.

Crime Report: Robbery in Buckingham

A man was robbed after getting out of his car, in the middle of the afternoon, Monday in the Buckingham neighborhood.

The strong-arm robbery happened on the 4200 block of N. Pershing Drive, a block of shops, restaurants and apartments just southwest of Glebe Road. The suspect stole the victim’s belongings and then drove off.

ROBBERY BY FORCE, 2017-04240122, 4200 block of N. Pershing Drive. At approximately 1:30 p.m. on April 24, officers responded to the report of a robbery by force that had just occurred. Upon arrival, it was determined as a male victim exited his vehicle he was grabbed from behind by an unknown male subject. The male subject then stole the victim’s belongings and fled the scene in a nearby vehicle. The subject is described as a black male in his forties, approximately 5’09”-6’0″ tall with a heavy set build. He was wearing a brown jacket and a black hat. The investigation is ongoing.

DEVELOPING: Police Search for Suspect in East Falls Church

Arlington County police are assisting the Fairfax County Police Department in the search for a suspect who took off in the East Falls Church area after a chase.

Around 3:30 p.m. Fairfax police were called to Tysons Corner for reports of a possible fraudulent transaction at the Apple Store. Officers found two suspects in a car in a parking lot and attempted to stop them.

The suspects took off and a pursuit ensued along Route 7 and Interstate 66. During the pursuit the suspects’ vehicle struck another vehicle but nobody was hurt.

The chase ended near N. Sycamore Street and 22nd Street N. in East Falls Church. Fairfax police arrested one suspect but the other took off on foot. A resident on the 6500 block of 22nd Street N. reports seeing police confiscate bags that appear to be from the Apple Store.

A helicopter and K-9 units are assisting with an active search for the suspect in the East Falls Church neighborhood.

The suspect is described as a black man between the ages of 20 and 25 who is about 6 feet tall and 180-200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and white pants.

Police say homeowners in the area should lock windows, doors and garage doors and report anything suspicious by calling the police non-emergency number at 703-558-2222, and they should not attempt to approach any person who seems suspicious. Police also recommend remaining alert into the evening because sometimes suspects emerge after they believe police activity has calmed down.

Pentagon City Pursuit Ends with Arrest

Police have arrested one person for a trespassing incident that turned into a pursuit in Pentagon City.

Just before 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday police responded to a report of two suspicious people trespassing at a residential property on the 1200 block of N. Eads Street in Pentagon City. Upon arriving in the area, a K-9 officer saw the suspects fleeing on foot.

Police canvassed the area and briefly pursued the suspects on foot, then made one arrest. Further investigation revealed that at least one vehicle in the area had been tampered with.

Daikel Holsey-Stewart, 19, of Capitol Heights, MD, has been charged with tampering with an auto, trespassing and being a fugitive from justice.

The investigation is ongoing.

Crime Solvers Honor ‘Law Enforcement Officers of the Year’ During Annual Lunch

The “mystery” of who will be honored as the Arlington County law enforcement officer of the year will be solved Thursday, May 4, during the annual award presentation luncheon sponsored Arlington County Crime Solvers.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony at the Salsa Room, 2619 Columbia Pike, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.) will deliver the keynote speech. Arlington Sheriff Chief Deputy Paul Larson, Police Chief Jay Farr and other county officials will speak on community-police relations and the effort to join forces in fighting crime.

Chief Deputy Larson and Chief Farr will present the two Law Enforcement Recognition Awards to the Arlington County law enforcement officers chosen by the Crime Solvers as those who have made significant contributions to making Arlingtonians safe.

“I believe the ACCS can foster a strong relationship with the local community and law enforcement by bringing us together each year and saying ‘thank you’ to those who risk their lives everyday to protect our safety,” said Andres Tobar, ACCS president and executive director of the Shirlington Employment & Education Center.

This is the fifth time the Crime Solvers have honored Arlington’s law enforcement with a ceremony and lunch. This year is the first time for the presentation of a new award, given to the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, to a community organization that best represents community-law enforcement relations.

In addition, Richard V. Doud, Jr., the founding president of the Arlington County Crime Solvers chapter, will also be recognized with a special award.

Arlington County Crime Solvers maintains a volunteer-operated, 24-hour tips line for anonymous callers to report crimes and wanted persons. Cash rewards of up to $1,000 are offered to those who provide information leading to arrest or the recovery of drugs or stolen property. The number is 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).

Crime Report: Early Morning Antics in Ballston Store

Two men made an early morning entry into a department store on the 700 block of Glebe Road in Ballston.

This morning just before 4 a.m., police responded to a burglar alarm at the property and found that two men had entered the store. The suspects fled shortly after police arrived.

Although police do not release the names of affected businesses, Macy’s is the only remaining department store on that block while the Ballston mall undergoes renovation.

It doesn’t appear that the suspects took any items. More from the ACPD crime report:

UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 2017-04190032, 700 block of N. Glebe Road. At approximately 3:47 a.m. on April 19, officers responded to an audible burglary alarm. Upon arrival, it was determined two unknown male subjects entered a business. The subjects then fled the scene on foot shortly after. No items appear to be missing. The first subject is described as a black male, with a slim to medium build and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. The second subject is described as a black male, with a slim to medium build and was wearing a dark shirt. The investigation is ongoing.

ACPD: Armed Robbery Last Night May Be Connected to Other Crime

A store on Columbia Pike was robbed by armed suspects just before midnight last night, and police believe there may be a connection to a similar robbery over the weekend.

Police responded after two masked men — one with a gun — robbed a store on the 4900 block of Columbia Pike, which is across the street from the Arlington Mill Community Center. Police did not specify which business was robbed, but that spot is home to a 7-Eleven.

The suspects fled the scene in a car that had been parked nearby. They got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and valuables.

Police say the circumstances of this armed robbery are similar to Saturday’s store robbery in Virginia Square. “Due to the many similarities we are not only actively investigating each robbery individually, but also from the prospective likelihood that they are related,” says Deputy Chief Daniel Murray.

Although police do not name affected businesses, they confirm both incidents involved the same type of commercial establishment. The suspects’ descriptions, included below in an ACPD crime report, also bear a resemblance to the Virginia Square robbery.

ARMED ROBBERY, 2017-04120301, 4900 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 11:53 p.m. on April 12, officers responded to the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival, it was determined two masked male suspects, one brandishing a firearm, entered a store and demanded cash and items of value. The suspects then fled the scene in a nearby parked vehicle with an undisclosed amount of cash and items of value. The first suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6’0″ tall. He was wearing dark jeans, a black hoodie, a black mask, and white gloves. The second suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’5″-5’8″ tall. He was wearing olive green pants, a black hoodie, a black mask, and white gloves. The investigation is ongoing.

Crime Report: Man Robbed While Leaving Restaurant

A man was robbed while leaving a restaurant in the Buckingham neighborhood early Sunday morning.

Police say he was leaving a restaurant on the 200 block of N. Glebe Road around 2:30 a.m. when he was assaulted by four men. The suspects took off on foot with items they stole from the victim.

The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

ROBBERY BY FORCE, 2017-04090058, 200 block of N. Glebe Road. At approximately 2:30 a.m. on April 9, officers responded to the report of trouble unknown. Upon arrival, it was determined a male victim was assaulted by four unknown male subjects when he was leaving a restaurant. The subjects fled the area on foot with the victim’s belongings. The male victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. All four suspects are described as Hispanic males, approximately 26 years old, 5’4″ tall, 150 lbs, brown hair, with dark complexions. The investigation is ongoing.

Armed Robbery at Store in Virginia Square

Police responded to an armed robbery at a Virginia Square store Saturday night.

Two masked men reportedly entered a store on the 3400 block of Washington Blvd a little after 9 p.m., showed a firearm and demanded money and other items. Police did not specify which store was robbed, but that block is home to a 7-Eleven.

The suspects fled on foot with their loot. Their descriptions are in the full report from ACPD below.

ARMED ROBBERY, 2017-04080244, 3400 block of Washington Boulevard. At approximately 9:07 p.m. on April 8, officers responded to the report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined two masked male subjects, one brandishing a firearm, entered a store and demanded cash and items of value. The suspects fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and items of value. The first suspect is described as a light skinned black male, approximately 6’0″ tall. He was wearing a black jacket, gloves, and a black mask. The second suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’8″-5’9″ tall. He was wearing a black winter jacket, gloves, and a black mask. The investigation is ongoing.

Suspect Has Missing Ex-Wife — The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested a man in Arlington this weekend in connection with the 2009 disappearance of his girlfriend, who lived in D.C. Now Jose Rodriguez-Cruz also has been tied to the disappearance of his first wife, who was last seen in 1989. Arlington County police have opened an investigation into her disappearance. Overnight I-66 Closures — VDOT will be closing part of eastbound I-66 for 20 minute intervals tonight for toll construction. Beginning at 9:30 p.m. and running until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, closures will occur on eastbound I-66 between I-495 north and Lee Highway.

Teens Apprehended for Car Break-Ins

Police picked up two teens accused of breaking into cars early Saturday morning.

Around 12:45 a.m. on Saturday, police received a call from a citizen who reported seeing people tampering with vehicles along the 4100 block of S. Four Mile Run Drive. Officers responded to the area, established a perimeter and located the two suspects matching the descriptions the witness provided.

Investigators determined that eight vehicles had been broken into and rummaged through, and several had items of value stolen. Most of the vehicles had not been locked.

The 16- and 17-year-old suspects both face charges in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Police have not linked them to other recent car break-in cases throughout the county, but the investigation is ongoing.
