Active Duty Registration has officially begun for the Marine Corps Marathon.

The special discount and early registration applies to all active duty and reserve service members. Military personnel from all branches of the armed forces will receive a 15 percent discount off the regular $92 entrance fee.

Military personnel have until March 6 to take advantage of the discount. Registration opens to the general public on March 7.

The Marine Corps Marathon, which takes place on October 28, is the fourth largest marathon in the United States and the ninth largest in the world. The race starts and ends in Arlington.

If you’re looking to give the gift of fitness and transportation this holiday season, Capital Bikeshare may have the answer. It’s offering gift certificates for memberships at discounted rates until Christmas.

The annual membership is going for $65, down from $75, and the 30-day membership can be picked up for $20 instead of $25.

Bikeshare set up several new stations in Arlington last month, and has plans for more expansion throughout the county in the spring.

We’re told the discounts will be in place until December 25. You can find more information about the four options available for memberships, or make gift certificate purchases here.

Housing for the Homeless — This week volunteers canvased the streets of Arlington in an effort to identify the 100 most vulnerable homeless individuals in the county. Part of the 100 Homes campaign, the results of the survey will be used to determine which chronically homeless persons will be moved to permanent housing. Findings from the surveys are being presented today to elected officials and to the public. [Washington Examiner, 100 Homes Arlington]

Walk up and down Wilson Boulevard in Clarendon on a warm summer night, and you’re likely to be offered a free sample of pizza.

It’s a tradition at Faccia Luna, the “American Trattoria” that has been a presence in Clarendon since 1992. For those who haven’t tried their pizza, or those who can’t get enough of it, our partners at WTD are offering a great deal: $20 worth of food and non-alcoholic beverages for $9.

The deal is available for purchase through next weekend. It must be redeemed by Dec. 1.

See Faccia Luna’s menu here.

If you like juicy burgers and ridiculously inexpensive food, our partners at WTD have an offer for you.

WTD is offering $7 worth of burgers, shakes or fries at Ballston’s brgr:shack restaurant (4215 Fairfax Drive) for one dollar. Haven’t been yet? Check out brgr:shack’s menu, including their specialty burgers, shack salads, sweet potato fries and thick shakes.

The offer is on sale for the next five days. Already, more than 1,400 vouchers have been sold.

If you’re not hungry for burgers yourself, the Arlington Street People’s Assistance Network is asking locals to consider donating the voucher so that the organization’s homeless clients can enjoy a nice meal.

Our partners at WTD have a deal this week especially for Ballston and Virginia Square residents.

They’re offering $20 worth of food at First Down Sports Bar & Grill (4213 N. Fairfax Drive) for only $8. First Down has a menu that includes loaded tater tots, tex mex eggrolls, pizza, burgers, and 40 different chicken wing flavors. If you’re not watching sports on the restaurant’s HDTV’s, you can play shuffleboard, foosball and other bar games.

First Down is a “home” bar for fans of the Redskins, Capitals, Wizards, Steelers, Red Sox, Virginia Tech, and WVU.

Think you know everything there is about Arlington? Prove it by competing in an Arlington Scavenger Hunt along the Orange Line.

Our partners at WTD are now offering discounted registration for a team of two. Instead of paying $20, WTD is offering a limited supply of team registrations for $10.

The hunt will take place between noon and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, rain or shine. Participants will solve clues, perform challenges and otherwise have fun while exploring the nooks and crannies of the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor.

All registrants must be 21 or over. The grand prize is airfare to Miami and four-day vacation for two on the Bud Light Port Paradise Cruise Ship.

Our partners at WTD are offering a great deal at the already reasonably-priced Pines of Florence restaurant in Virginia Square.

Through the end of the week you can get $30 worth of food (see menu) and non-alcoholic drinks for $15. The restaurant’s specialties include Italian classics like fried calamari, baked ziti and white pizza.

The deal is good for dining in at Pines of Florence’s pizza counter or main seating area. The restaurant is located at 3811 Fairfax Drive, two blocks from the Virginia Square Metro station.

Our partners at What’s the Deal (WTD) have just launched a revamped daily deals offering for Northern Virginia, and their first deal is for a restaurant ARLnow.com readers are familiar with: Mad Rose Tavern.

The Clarendon eatery has gone through well-documented management and menu changes since its February launch. Credit the changes or the warm weather — but it’s clear that, at the very least, Mad Rose has started attracting sizable crowds to its outdoor seating areas.

If you want to try it out yourself, WTD is offering 50% off food and non-alcoholic drinks at Mad Rose Tavern for the next two weeks.
