AIR-036-ARL-Now-AIRE-Ad1Arlington County’s AIRE Program — Arlington Initiative to Rethink Energy — invites you to the Energy Journey Game! Come be a player in our interactive life-size board game. Challenge yourself on everyday actions that have an energy impact as you journey down a path of decisions and chance. Journey through Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall as you make investments, take chances, and earn rewards.

Doors open at 1pm and the last game begins at 4pm. Raffle prizes for recycled artwork every half-hour! Registration is not required, but your RSVP will help us better plan for the event.

The 2013 Grassroots Inauguration Gala and Fundraiser for AFACState Theatre (220 N. Washington Street, Falls Church) on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 7:30 – 11:30 p.m.

buttonSupporters and volunteers of the 2012 Obama campaign are invited to a “Grassroots Gala” at the State Theatre in Falls Church on Saturday, January 19th at 7:30 PM. Tickets for the event, which includes a live band, hors d’ouvres, and a cash bar, are available for $50 on the State Theatre website or box office.

Come celebrate our common victory with other volunteers and Democrats who worked hard in Northern Virginia to turn the state blue – AGAIN ! Come as you are – jeans to sequins.

marta-class-editedOn January 19, Edu-Futuro will be holding in-person registration for its Spanish classes for children and adults through its Escuela Bolivia Program for the spring semester at Claremont Elementary School.

Edu-Futuro provides Spanish classes to children and adults taught by native Spanish speakers at some of the most competitive prices in the Greater DC region. Adult classes include a beginners and intermediate course. Classes for children are from Pre- K through 8th grade.

Northern Lights: Music by Grieg, Sibelius and Rautavaara — Sunday, Jan. 13 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Lyon Park Community Center (414 North Fillmore Street)

IBIS_053.PR_.smallIBIS Chamber Music Society examines Nordic composers in a “Champagne & Strings” event. Warm up before the concert with a glass of champagne (or perhaps a shot of vodka?) and an informal chat with violinist Joseph Scheer about these Nordic works, including string quartets by Grieg and Sibelius, and eerily fascinating music for harp and strings by Rautavaara. Join us after the concert for a reception.

Tickets $20/10 for seniors and students. Kids under 18 are always free.

ulikClarinet Capers with Julian MilkisSaturday, Jan. 12 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. — Hailed as one of the world’s greatest living clarinetists, Julian Milkis remains the only student of Jazz Legend Benny Goodman, and has been described as a dazzling soloist, chamber musician and jazz clarinetist. Milkis will perform at Artisphere’s Spectrum Theater with members of the National Chamber Ensemble: Kathryn Brake on piano, Leo Sushansky on violin, and Uri Wassertzug on viola.

National Chamber Ensemble’s Annual Holiday ConcertDec. 16 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. — The National Chamber Ensemble (NCE) celebrates the spirit of the holiday season on Sunday, December 16 with a show for the whole family. The performance will feature great music, an international guest artist and outstanding young musicians. An annual tradition, the concert will include seasonal favorites like Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride”, a Hanukkah Medley and more. The event will take place at the Spectrum Theatre at Artisphere (1611 N. Kent Street).

Book Fair to Support the Arlington Children’s FundToday (Dec. 07) from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. — Come help support the new Arlington Children’s Fund, established to help low income children and youth in Arlington. Barnes and Noble in Seven Corners (6260 Seven Corners Center, Falls Church) will be conducting a book fair to help raise money for the fund. Use Bookfair ID 10967693 at checkout, and 10–20% of the purchases on Dec. 6th and 7th, and online from Dec. 7th through 13th, will help grow the new Arlington Children’s Fund!

Jewelry Trunk Show and Art Reception Today (Dec. 6) from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. — The Northern Virginia Art Center (2100 Crystal Drive) is holding a a Jewelry Trunk show featuring the work of Julie Jernigan (Jules’s Jewels) and Christine Bartoletta (Society Hill), as well as an opening reception for two art shows: “Illuminations” and “Metroscapes: NOVA/DC.” King Street Blues will offer a tasting, wine will be served, and Arlington duo Suburban Hearts will be playing music. Free and open to the public.
