Be careful out there — it’s going to be a foggy night.

The National Weather Service just issued a Dense Fog Advisory for Arlington and much of the D.C. area. It’s in effect until 1 a.m.

From NWS:

…DENSE FOG ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EST FRIDAY…

* WHAT…Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.

* WHERE…Portions of central, north central, northeast, northern and western Maryland, The District of Columbia, northern and western Virginia and eastern and panhandle West Virginia.

* WHEN…Until 1 AM EST Friday.

* IMPACTS…Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

After a foggy morning, Saturday night and Sunday morning might be even foggier.

Dense fog has formed in Arlington and around the D.C. area, making driving increasingly hazardous as the fog gets thicker.

…LOCALLY DENSE FOG DEVELOPING EAST OF BLUE RIDGE…

Locally dense fog is now developing in many areas between the Blue Ridge and the Interstate 95 corridor, as a steady light to moderate rain begins to overspread the area. This is reducing visibility to one mile or less. As the fog expands and thickens tonight, expect Dense Fog Advisories to be issued. Dense fog is hazardous if driving at high speeds. Be prepared for rapidly changing visibility. Slow down, increase following distance, and use low beam headlights when encountering dense fog.

Arlington is now included in a Dense Fog Advisory that was earlier issued for other parts of Virginia and Maryland.

The fog is expected to clear up overnight, but for now visibility outside is low and potentially treacherous for drivers.

It’s going to be a foggy night.

Arlington and much of the region is now under a Dense Fog Advisory. The advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Friday.

Forecasters warn of “visibility down to one quarter mile in dense fog” and “hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.”

“If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you,” said the National Weather Service.

Arlington is again under a Dense Fog Advisory this morning. The fog reduced visibilities during the morning commute, making driving treacherous at times.

The advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Though it’s starting to burn off, it’s still foggy out there as of publication time.

A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect this morning or Arlington and the D.C. area.

The fog is starting to burn off and is expected to clear out throughout the morning. The advisory is set to expire at 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Drivers are being encouraged to take it slow this morning, particularly on highways, due to reduced visibility.


(Updated at 3:10 p.m.) The worst of today’s fog is starting to lift after an earlier Dense Fog Advisory that was in effect for Arlington and surrounding areas

The fog has prompted delays at Reagan National Airport.

“Due to Low Ceilings, traffic is experiencing Gate Hold and Taxi delays between 16 minutes and 30 minutes in length and increasing,” said the FAA’s flight delay maps.
