Barry’s Clarendon — the first Virginia studio for international fitness chain Barry’s Bootcamp — is getting ready to open its location at 2825 Wilson Blvd next week.
The gym will open on Saturday, Jan. 25, according to a press release.
Barry’s describes itself as a “boutique lifestyle brand” with an “immersive and transformative full-body workout experience.” The L.A. Times once described the gym, which was founded in Los Angeles in 1998, as “one of the toughest workouts” in the city.
The Clarendon location, a 5,695 square foot space next to the Chase bank, is the second location in the D.C. area after one in Dupont Circle. While there’s no shortage of gyms around Arlington, Barry’s Clarendon will help fill the void left when Washington Sports Club closed last year nearby.
The location will have 23 treadmills and a capacity for 50 people to work out at one time, according to the press release. The location will also sell clothing like workout clothes and athleisure wear, along with smoothies and snacks.
Classes at the gym are $34 per session, though other types of packages and memberships are also available.
Citing the arrival of Amazon’s HQ2, the parent company of Sport&Health says it will be expanding and renovating its fitness club in Crystal City.
The expansion will add 8,000 square feet to the club at 2231 Crystal Drive, adding additional space for strength training and studios to a location that already includes a cycle studio and indoor salt water pool.
The work is expected to begin this spring and wrap up this summer. The club will remain open during construction.

The Gold’s Gym in Courthouse will be closing Dec. 1, according to a letter to members obtained by ARLnow.
The letter, sent today (Friday), says that the fitness chain made “several attempts to come to a lease renewal agreement with the landlord” but ultimately made the decision to close. Members will instead be transferred to the Gold’s Gym on N. Fillmore Street in Clarendon.
Gold’s also has a gym in Ballston and earlier this year announced a new, 30,000 square foot location next to the Rosslyn Metro station, to replace an existing location nearby.
The Courthouse Gold’s Gym, at 1310 N. Courthouse Road, changed its branding from Fitness First in 2013. Last year ARLnow reported that the gym was listed for lease by a commercial real estate firm, though at the time we were told that the company was “optimistic” about keeping it open.
The full letter about the closure is below.
Dear Gold’s Gym Member,
After several attempts to come to a lease renewal agreement with the landlord, we had to make the difficult decision to permanently close our Gold’s Gym Arlington Courthouse location at 1310 N. Courthouse Road. We will continue standard operations at the gym through December 1, 2019.
To ensure that there are no interruptions to your fitness journey, we will be transferring your membership to Gold’s Gym Clarendon, located at 1220 N. Fillmore St.
Gold’s Gym Clarendon is ready to become your new home gym and has all the amenities and services you have grown accustomed to. You will also have access to our other area locations including Gold’s Gym Rosslyn and Gold’s Gym Ballston.
During this transfer, there will be no change to your membership dues. We are committed to helping you reach your potential through fitness.
Plus, we are excited to announce that you will have access to our Gold’s Gym Rosslyn City Center location opening in 2020. This location will include GOLD’S STUDIO® , our boutique studio offerings along with state-of-the-art cardio and strength equipment, and much more!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Gold’s Gym Arlington Courthouse General Manager, Denis Hernandez, at 703-276-0000 […]
Thank you for choosing Gold’s Gym and we look forward to supporting your fitness journey
Orangetheory Fitness will be joining Harris Teeter at a new development along Columbia Pike.
The trendy boutique gym will be located on the ground floor of the Centro Arlington complex at 4231 Columbia Pike. Franchise owner Mark Steverson said he’s aiming for a December 1 opening date.
“We’re excited for Columbia Pike,” said Steverson. “We think its a fantastic area and we look forward to opening.”
When finished, Centro Arlington will consist of the grocery store, the gym, additional retail space, a 22,000 square foot open space, a three-level parking garage, and an apartment complex. The project replaces the old Food Star Grocery store on the Pike.
Contractors applied for Orangetheory’s commercial building permit in June, according to county records.
This will be the fifth Arlington location for Orangetheory, which offers hour-long workouts utilize a combination of cardio, free weights, and heart rate monitoring to maximize calorie burn. Existing Orangetheory locations in Arlington include Rosslyn, Ballston, Pentagon City, and Clarendon.
Those who sign up for classes now will have access to exclusive pre-sale rates, Steverson said.
In a Facebook post late last month, Jumping Joeys said it hopes “to start having parties at the beginning of November” at its new location. The extent of the construction progress inside, however, is unclear due to window coverings.
CorePower Yoga is now open in Ballston Exchange and newcomers can receive one week of yoga classes for free.
The yoga studio at 4201 Wilson Blvd is celebrating its opening with a series of deals. CorePower’s Black Tag Membership is offered at 10 percent off for the first month, in addition to having the first week of classes free. The studio had been holding a series of free outdoor, public classes in advance of its opening.
CorePower Yoga bills itself as welcoming to all skill levels, with a blend of intense physical workout and mindfulness.
The 3,410 square-foot location has two studios and a full locker room, according to staff at CorePower Yoga. The location officially opened Thursday, Aug. 22.
Construction permits were filed earlier this year for a 5,695 square foot space at 2825 Wilson Blvd in Clarendon, next to the Chase Bank.
The international gym franchise has one location in D.C., in Dupont Circle, and staff there said the Clarendon location is expected to open by the end of the year — most likely in December.
The layout of the new gym will be similar to the D.C. location, we’re told. There’s no word yet on promotions or other pre-opening deals, the company usually offers them to first-time members.
A new 30,000 square foot Gold’s Gym is coming to Rosslyn next year.
The fitness chain announced this morning that it is planning to open in the redeveloped Rosslyn City Center, next to the Metro station, next fall.
The new gym will features boutique-style classes, group classes and 3D body scanning, plus “health spa-quality shower and towel amenities, healthy concessions and exclusive use of a 1,400 square-foot training terrace overlooking Central Place Plaza with expansive views of the Rosslyn skyline.”
Once it opens, the new Gold’s Gym will replace the existing subterranean Gold’s at 1830 N. Nash Street, which is located below an office complex that itself is slated to eventually be redeveloped.
More from a press release:
American Real Estate Partners (AREP), an institutional fund manager and operating partner focused on office and mixed-use repositioning and development, announced today Gold’s Gym, the world’s trusted fitness authority, will open a new location at AREP’s Rosslyn City Center.

“The renovation of Rosslyn City Center is fully underway and will complete the core of Rosslyn’s renaissance, bringing the best restaurants and fitness amenities to serve all of the new residents and tenants relocating to Rosslyn,” said Doug Fleit, CEO of AREP. “Rosslyn City Center is a destination that will continue to attract the best employee talent for offices around Metro.”
In June, AREP announced the $35 million renovation of Rosslyn City Center with state-of-the-art exterior, lobby and common spaces. Along with the addition of Gold’s Gym, the redevelopment also includes new retail destinations that will match Rosslyn’s transformation into a vibrant urban center, including a Chase bank and a 20,000 square foot food hall with 12 locally-curated food stalls and two lounges operated by Austin, Texas-based Oz Rey.
“Healthy, local food and a commitment to wellness are key priorities for today’s workforce, especially for the millennial population that makes up more than 40 percent of workers in Rosslyn today,” said Paul Schulman, Principal and Chief Operating Officer, AREP. “With millennials contributing to an estimated $4.2 trillion global wellness market, bringing in award-winning industry leaders like Gold’s Gym and Oz Rey food halls to manage world-class facilities with high foot traffic at Rosslyn City Center provides greater opportunities for our tenants, retailers and the community at large.”
Retail, along with hospitality amenities, are signature components of AREP’s placemaking strategy at Rosslyn City Center — and across its portfolio — to develop properties that leverage innovative design and elevated amenities to create destinations that have a sense of place and activate tenant and community engagement.
