A middle-aged man was seen masturbating outside a salon in Clarendon this past Thursday evening.

The incident took place just after 7:00 p.m. on the 2700 block of Clarendon Blvd, near the Market Common Clarendon shopping center. Police were not able to locate the man after the incident was reported.

INDECENT EXPOSURE, 10/10/13, 2700 block of N. Clarendon Boulevard. On October 10 at 7:07pm, a victim reported a suspect masturbating outside of a hair salon. The suspect is described as a white male, between 45 and 55 years of age, approximately 5’7” and about 150 pounds. The suspect had shoulder length brown hair, but was bald on the top of his head. At the time of the incident, he was wearing blue jeans, brown boots, a black belt, and a green jacket.


A man on a bike exposed himself to a woman who was walking her dog in the area of the Bluemont Junction Trail, according to this week’s Arlington County crime report.

The incident happened at 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4. From the crime report:

INDECENT EXPOSURE, 09/04/13, 700 block of N. Emerson Street. At 4:19 pm on September 4, a subject on a bicycle exposed himself to a victim while walking her dog. The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male in his 20’s, approximately 5’7″ tall, average build, and medium length dark brown hair. At the time of the incident the suspect was wearing a yellow shirt with a blue circle and writing in the center and black athletic shorts with a grey checkered pattern. The suspect’s bicycle was black with silver and white writing and thin tires.

Arlington County police car (file photo)A man was seen exposing himself in Benjamin Banneker Park on Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 8:00 a.m. The man was spotted in the woods near the park’s soccer fields, with a white shirt covering his head, exposing himself to other park users, according to an Arlington County crime report.

Police were not able to locate the suspect.

The 11-acre park is located along the W&OD Trail and near the East Falls Church Metro station.


A man exposed himself to a woman in a stairwell in the Douglas Park neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

From this week’s Arlington County crime report:

EXPOSURE, 09/03/13, 1200 block of S. Thomas Street. At 2:50 pm on September 3, a subject exposed himself to a female victim in a stairwell. The suspect is described as a black male, bald, approximately 5’6″, 160 pounds, and in his early 30’s. At the time of the incident the suspect was wearing khaki shorts, a black t-shirt, and a khaki button down.

(Updated at 2:15 p.m. on 12/23/21) A man was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly masturbating in sight of children.

The incident happened around 6:00 last night. Police say Arlington resident Jose [Redacted], 56, was seen masturbating behind a shopping center on the 4800 block of Columbia Pike, while watching children at a nearby playground.

[Redacted] was apprehended by Arlington County Police and charged with indecent exposure. Detectives are now trying to determine whether [Redacted] could be linked with other, similar cases.

“Our Special Victims Unit will be reviewing similar cases from the past to see if this individual is related to any of those,” police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told ARLnow.com.


New Arlington police carIntoxicated bar- and pool-goers kept police busy over the weekend.

On Saturday, Arlington County police made 13 alcohol-related arrests in Clarendon during the All-American Bar Crawl, according to ACPD spokesman Dustin Sternbeck. Among the arrests were two for assault on a police officer and one for a man who attempted, unsuccessfully, to throw a chair through the front window of a business.

Sternbeck said calls for police in Clarendon were “steady” throughout the evening, up until about midnight. “Multiple” fights were reported during that time.

On Sunday, meanwhile, police were called to a pool on the 1600 block of S. Eads Street — at the Crystal Towers apartment complex — for an intoxicated man who allegedly exposed himself.

The 29-year-old Arlington resident exposed himself to about 25 people, including children, while sitting in a chair poolside, Sternbeck said. A lifeguard asked the man to leave, and police arrested him for indecent exposure at his apartment.


A 16-year-old girl told police that she saw a man masturbating behind a window at an Arlington country club last week.

The alleged incident happened around 5:30 p.m. last Tuesday at the tennis courts of the Washington Golf and Country Club (3017 N. Glebe Road). According to a police spokesman, the man was spotted in an area of the club that was under construction.

INDECENT EXPOSURE, 05/23/13, 3000 block of N. Glebe Road. At 5:30 pm on May 21, a 16 year-old female victim witnessed a subject masturbating behind a glass window overlooking a tennis court. The suspect is described as a white male with scraggly hair and was wearing a white hat.

Taylor Elementary School (photo via Arlington Public Schools)An alert parent at Taylor Elementary School (2600 N. Stuart Street) called police on Monday upon spotting a half naked man near the school.

A mother saw the man sitting in a van near the school’s bus stop on N. 31st Street around 8:20 yesterday morning. When she noticed that he was naked from the waist down, she called police.

The person is described as a white male with dark hair, in his mid to late 40s. At the time of the incident he was in a white Chevrolet Astro van that had ladders on the roof.

Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said the mother did exactly what she should have in this type of incident.

“If something doesn’t feel right, it’s better to alert police and let them investigate,” Sternbeck said. “The ACPD is following up on the incident and will have an increased presence in the area.”

If found, the man could be charged with indecent exposure.


Police are looking for a man who exposed himself to a woman at Arlington Central Library (1015 N. Quincy Street) last weekend.

The incident took place on Saturday afternoon, on the second floor of the library. From this week’s Arlington County crime report:

EXPOSURE, 04/27/13, 1000 block of N. Quincy Street. At 2:30 pm on April 27, a suspect exposed himself to female victim in a second floor aisle at the Central library. The suspect fled the scene when the victim alerted front desk staff. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 40-55 years old, 6″ tall and 210 lbs. He was wearing a blue hat, blue long sleeve shirt and blue sweatpants at the time of the incident.

Police are looking for a man who was allegedly masturbating while following a woman with his car.

The incident happened last Friday night in the Douglas Park neighborhood. From this week’s Arlington County crime report:

INDECENT EXPOSURE, 03/15/13, 1300 block of S. Monroe Street. At 7:30 pm on March 15, a victim observed an unknown subject masturbating while seated inside a vehicle with the door open. As the victim walked away, she noticed the subject following her in his car. The subject then parked and proceeded to exit the car and follow the victim by foot. The victim then ran into a Post Office to escape the subject, and the subject fled the scene. The subject is described as a 40-year-old black male, approximately 5’8″ tall and 200 lbs. He had dark skin, short black hair, no facial hair and a muscular build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a beige long sleeved shirt and dark pants.

Last Thursday, police say a man was arrested for exposing himself to a woman at Arlington Central Library.

INDECENT EXPOSURE, 03/14/13, 1000 block of N. Quincy Street. At 5:30 pm on March 14, a subject exposed himself to a female victim inside the Central Library. The suspect was located a couple hours later in the area. Patrick Robert Rooney, 67, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with indecent exposure. He was held with no bond.

(Updated at 1:55 p.m. on 12/23/21) For the second time in as many months, an Arlington man has been arrested for allegedly masturbating in the sauna of a local health club.

Police were at the LA Fitness club on the 3500 block of S. Clark Street in Crystal City Thursday morning, investigating a separate incident, when a gym user approached officers to tell them about a man he saw masturbating in the public sauna, according to Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

Police subsequently arrested 65-year-old Morris [Redacted]. Officers didn’t actually witness the act and [Redacted], the owner of a local hair salon, claimed that he was grooming himself, not pleasuring himself, according to police.

[Redacted] was charged with indecent exposure and released on an unsecured bond. The Arlington resident was also arrested in late December and accused of masturbating in the same sauna.

The gym had not yet revoked his membership because they were awaiting a verdict in [Redacted’s] original case, Sternbeck said.
