A child has been struck by a vehicle on the 6800 block of Lee Highway, in the East Falls Church/Westlee area.
Initial reports suggest the child is alert and conscious, but may have several broken bones. The vehicle that struck the child reportedly left the scene but has since returned.
Westbound Lee Highway is closed due to the emergency response.
A 21-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated in a July crash that seriously injured an Arlington County police officer.
At 2:20 a.m. on July 20, the officer was responding to a call in Ballston when his police cruiser collided with another vehicle at N. Glebe Road and Washington Boulevard. The officer was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Even now, he’s “still in and out of the hospital,” according to police spokeswoman Det. Crystal Nosal.
Today police announced that Arlington resident Kathryn Grace Kron, 21, has been arrested in connection with the accident. Kron is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, DWI Maiming and Possession of a Schedule II Drug, according to police. She is currently out on bond.
“Anyone who has additional information about this accident is asked to contact Detective P. Mulvaney at (703) 228-4239,” police said in a statement. “Witnesses can also call the Arlington Police Tip-Line at (703) 228-4242.”
On Facebook, an Arlington resident named Kathryn Kron is listed as a Yorktown High School graduate.

(Updated at 1:25 p.m.) Arlington County firefighters and paramedics helped to rescue an injured construction worker from one of the top floors of an unfinished office building in Ballston.
A large piece of glass reportedly fell on a worker on the 9th floor of the construction site at 800 N. Glebe Road around 12:30 p.m. Rescuers were apparently able to get the man down several flights of narrow stairs before loading him on to the basket of a ladder truck five floors below. The ladder was then lowered down to ground level as bystanders watched from across the street.
The man’s injuries were not said to be life-threatening.
A man was seriously injured after a car on which he was working fell on top of him in the Douglas Park neighborhood of South Arlington.
The man reportedly had the car propped up on a small jack when something when wrong and the vehicle fell on him. Police, firefighters and paramedics responded and managed to remove him from underneath the vehicle, a Toyota Camry sedan.
Police aren’t commenting yet on the man’s condition, but initial reports suggest his injuries were very serious. The incident happened in an apartment parking area off of the 1100 block of S. Thomas Street.
Update at 5:00 p.m. — Police have now confirmed that the victim died from his injuries.
The Arlington County Police Department is investigating the death of a man that occurred this morning.
At approximately 11:40 a.m., police and medic units were called to the 1100 block of South Thomas Street for a person injured while working on a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, it was apparent that the person was deceased. The victim has been identified as Miguel A. Interiano, 63, of Arlington. The investigation is ongoing.

A three-car accident on the GW Parkway this morning could have been much more serious had a cyclist not hesitated at a pedestrian crossing.
Two injuries were reported after a pickup truck rear-ended at least one of two cars that had stopped at the crossing. According to a video posted on Facebook by a witness, the female cyclist hesitated before crossing in front of the two cars. That act of vigilance may have saved her life.
“This right here is the worst bike crossing in the entire city,” said a man narrating the video from behind the camera. “The speed limit here is 45 miles per hour, and you have to come to a complete stop for the bike crossing. There should probably be a tunnel here, or something like that, instead.”
“I wonder when or if the NPS will figure out how to reduce accidents there,” another witness told ARLnow.com, in an email.
The two injuries reported by medics on the scene were both said to be vehicle occupants. U.S. Park Police and Arlington County Fire Department spokesmen did not have any additional information about the accident.
Update at 11:35 a.m. — Route 50 has reopened.
A collision between a pickup truck and an SUV blocked both lanes of westbound Route 50 at S. Columbus Street around 10:45 this morning.
The two drivers were treated on the scene and taken to the hospital with injuries described as “minor.” A small fire broke out in one of the vehicle’s engine compartments, but was quickly extinguished by police.
Westbound Route 50 traffic was diverted onto Park Drive, near the Outback Steakhouse. A flatbed truck arrived on scene and towed both vehicles away.
Update at 4:45 p.m. — Two lanes are now getting by the accident scene.
Traffic on the westbound lanes of I-66 is heavy from Spout Run to the eastern border of Fairfax County due to an accident.
Two cars were involved in an accident near Williamsburg Boulevard. At least one person was injured and transported to a hospital.
One lane is blocked while crews work to clean up the wreck. A Twitter user said the westbound lanes of I-66 are like “a parking lot” before the accident.
(Update at 2:35 p.m.) An elderly woman is dead following a car fire in the parking garage below the Ballston Hilton (950 N. Stafford Street).
Homicide detectives were called to investigate the woman’s death, but according to police spokeswoman Det. Crystal Nosal the death is now being investigated as a probable accident.
Police believe the woman, 74-year-old Adele Lapinell of Annandale, suffered some sort of medical emergency that caused her to crash her vehicle on the G-1 level of the garage. The crash caused the fire, Nosal said — likely the result of a gas line that was damaged by the collision. The first and second floors of the hotel were evacuated during the fire as a precaution.
Lapinell’s body was found as firefighters extinguished the blaze. Nosal said she was identified as a “registered parker” in the garage. She was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Police shut down Stafford Street between Fairfax Drive and 9th Street N. while emergency responders were on the scene. The road has since reopened. Washington Gas crews are on the scene to help repair the gas line.
Two women were involved in an unusual altercation in Terminal A of Reagan National Airport this morning.
The alleged scuffle started around 8:40 a.m. when one of the women inadvertently struck the other with a suitcase, according to airport spokeswoman Courtney Mickalonis. The woman who was holding the suitcase later told airport police that the woman she struck then stood up and hit her several times.
While airport police were escorting the suitcase holder to the Arlington County Magistrate’s Office to swear a warrant against the other woman, the alleged attacker claimed that she was injured, Mickalonis said. Arlington County paramedics were called to treat her.
No word yet on whether any charges will be filed in connection to the altercation.

A Volvo crossed two lanes of traffic and slammed into a light pole in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven across from Kenmore Middle School this morning, according to witnesses.
The force of the collision knocked the pole to the ground, damaging an SUV in the process.
A man and woman who were in the front seat of the Volvo were both transported to the hospital with injuries, witnesses say. Two children who were in the back seat were brought to the hospital with the adults, but were apparently not injured. The driver of the SUV, who was in the vehicle at the time of the collision, was also uninjured.
It’s unclear what caused the accident, which occurred around 11:00 a.m.
At least one northbound lane of Carlin Springs Road was closed following the collision. The 7-Eleven and another businesses in the small strip mall remained open. Dominion was called to help shut off power to the pole.
Police are investigating an incident that happened at a popular Clarendon watering hole Friday night.
A man was knocked to the ground in a stairwell at Whitlow’s on Wilson (2854 Wilson Blvd) just before 9:00 p.m. A bar patron who saw the aftermath told ARLnow.com that the man was bleeding from his ear and from a fracture in the back of his head.
“This guy was in really bad shape,” said the tipster. “I am a former Marine and I’ve seen some nasty stuff, and this was pretty bad.”
The police report suggests that the man started arguing with a bouncer when he was told he couldn’t bring his drink outside. The bouncer then hit the man, knocking him over, according to the police report and a witness, who Tweeted a photo of the man lying on the ground. The man apparently suffered a head injury upon hitting the floor.
The injured man has not made a statement yet, police say, and at this point no charges have been filed. Police say the man is in the hospital with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.
