SUV Overturns on Route 1

A two-vehicle collision resulted in an SUV overturning on Route 1 (Jefferson Davis) this morning.

The crash happened in rainy weather around 10:15 a.m., at the 27th Street S. intersection in Crystal City. An SUV flipped on its roof and a car suffered heavy front-end damage in the wreck.

Two ambulances have been called to the scene, but none of the injuries are reported to be life-threatening.

Northbound Route 1 is down to one lane as crews continue to clean up the wreckage and spilled fluids.

Man Trapped in Overturned Vehicle on Williamsburg Blvd

A man in his 70s was trapped in an SUV that overturned in North Arlington early this afternoon.

The crash happened around 12:45 p.m., on Williamsburg Blvd near the intersection with N. Glebe Road.

The man was promptly extricated from the vehicle by firefighters. He did not appear to be seriously hurt, according to scanner traffic, and was transported via ambulance to Virginia Hospital Center.

Williamsburg Blvd is closed while a tow crew removes the vehicle and debris from the roadway.

ACFD Responds to Flipped Car in Falls Church

Arlington County firefighters are on the scene of a flipped car in Falls Church.

The crash happened around 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of Great Falls Street and Little Falls Street, near the Falls Church Community Center.

One person is being evaluated for injuries by paramedics. A video (below) shows firefighters arriving on scene shortly after the accident.

Arlington provides fire and EMS services to the City of Falls Church via an agreement between the two jurisdictions.

Kenmore Street Closed in Nauck Due to Flipped Convertible

Part of S. Kenmore Street is temporarily closed to traffic due to a flipped vehicle.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. near the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Initial reports suggest a driver in a blue Ford Mustang convertible lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a parked pickup truck.

The convertible flipped on its roof in the middle of the street. The man who was driving was reported to be bleeding from his forehead and was transported to a local hospital.

It’s unclear how exactly the crash happened. The parked pickup truck wound up perpendicular to the street, with its drive shaft partially detached and resting on the ground. The owners of the truck, apparently nearby residents, came out with a wheelbarrow to remove items from the pickup’s bed.

Arlington County Police are investigating the crash and documenting the scene before the car is towed away. Kenmore Street is closed between 19th and 22nd streets.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Car Overturns in Crash on I-395

(Updated at 4:25 p.m.) Police and firefighters were on the scene of a crash involving an overturned vehicle on I-395 earlier today.

The crash occurred near exit 8B on the southbound lane of I-395 just before 3:30 p.m. this afternoon.

No injuries were reported and everyone was able to safely escape the car, a Toyota, according to scanner traffic.

Workers removed the flipped car around 4 p.m. and traffic began moving normally shortly thereafter.

UPDATED: Overturned Vehicle on Columbia Pike

(Updated 6:35 p.m.) All lanes of Columbia Pike are blocked due to an overturned vehicle near Thai Square restaurant.

One person was reported to be trapped and injured. Firefighters removed the man from the vehicle, a Honda hatchback, and transported him to a local hospital.

The trapped driver is suspected of DUI, according to scanner traffic.

Initial reports suggest the driver in the Honda was driving westbound on Columbia Pike when he struck the rear quarter panel of a parked sedan, causing the Honda to flip on its side. An earlier report that the suspected DUI driver was in a different vehicle was incorrect.

All lanes of the Pike are closed between S. Walter Reed Drive and S. Glebe Road were closed for about an hour. The stretch reopened around 6:35 p.m.

Two Hurt, SUV Overturns in Crash Near Pentagon City Mall

(Updated at 4:10 p.m.) Police and firefighters are on the scene of an crash involving an overturned vehicle in Pentagon City.

The crash was reported around 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of S. Hayes Street and 15th Street S., near Pentagon City mall. Two vehicles were involved, a white work van and a small Honda SUV.

At least one person was trapped in the overturned vehicle and was extricated by firefighters. She was transported to the trauma center at George Washington University Hospital.

Another victim suffered less significant injuries and was transported to Virginia Hospital Center, according to scanner traffic.

Both directions of 15th Street were closed following the crash. The road is expected to reopen shortly, after crews clear the wreckage.

A D.C. taxi flipped on its roof at Reagan National Airport Thursday evening.

It’s unclear how the accident happened nor whether anyone was injured. Fire department and airports authority spokespersons were not immediately available for comment.

Photographer Erinn Shirley said she encountered the scene while traveling on the Mount Vernon Trail around 8:30 p.m. Her photos show a tree knocked over by the crash, a tire tread under a “Welcome to Virginia” sign and one or two luggage-toting travelers standing near the wreck.

One Hurt After SUV Overturns Near Route 50

One person was hurt this morning after an SUV flipped on its side on a neighborhood street just north of Route 50.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on the 10 block of N. Irving Street, between the Ashton Heights and Lyon Park neighborhoods.

Officials say the driver of a Ford SUV lost control and struck a pole, which then caused the vehicle to flip on its side, trapping the driver inside.

Arlington County Fire Department rescue crews responded and extricated the trapped individual, who suffered minor injuries and was transported to Virginia Hospital Center as a precaution, according to ACFD spokeswoman Lt. Sarah Marchegiani.

Irving Street was closed in both directions while crews freed and treated the patient.
