A two-vehicle accident resulted in an SUV flipping on its side at the intersection of 15th Street and N. Greenbrier Street this morning in the Tara-Leeway Heights neighborhood, near Virginia Hospital Center.

The accident happened around 8:15 a.m. and involved a Toyota Camry and a Toyota RAV4 SUV. It appears that the Camry somehow broadsided the RAV4, causing it to flip on its side. The intersection is a two-way stop, with the stop signs in place for traffic on 15th Street.

The driver of the RAV4 was trapped in the vehicle after the accident and had to be extricated by the fire department. The driver was then transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

A neighbor tells ARLnow.com that there are “a ton” of accidents at the intersection due to drivers rolling through the stop signs on 15th Street.

A U.S. Postal Service mail delivery truck flipped on its side in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven store this afternoon.

The accident happened just after 1:00 p.m. outside the 7-Eleven at the corner of Old Dominion Drive and N. Vernon Street, across from the Lee Heights Shops. The mail carrier who was driving the truck told police he was trying to park when his foot somehow became stuck against the accelerator, causing the truck to hop the curb and do a 360 degree turn across the southbound lanes of Old Dominion Drive, before finally striking a parked sedan and flipping on its side.

The driver’s leg was pinned between the vehicle and the pavement, but a group of witnesses managed to lift the truck just enough to free him, according to police. He was then able to climb out of the truck on his own power.

The driver suffered lacerations to his leg and arm, but did not require transport to the hospital. In fact, he remained on scene to help workers transfer mail from the truck to other postal vehicles.

The postal carrier was given a citation by police for failure to maintain his vehicle.

An SUV lost control and flipped over on a busy Courthouse street this afternoon.

Initial reports suggest the Ford Escape SUV experienced a mechanical problem that caused the throttle to become stuck as it turned onto Courthouse Road. According to witnesses, the vehicle hit a curb, flipped over, hit two sidewalk trees, hit the front of a BMW, and came to rest near Bayou Bakery, one block from Arlington County Police headquarters.

Amazingly, no one was hurt.

Courthouse Road was closed between Clarendon Boulevard and 15th Street N. for at least an hour while police investigated the accident and took photos of the scene. A towing crew was eventually able to flip the SUV back over and haul it away.
