ACFD Responds to Overturned Truck — Rescue crews responded to the intersection of George Mason Drive and 27th Street N., in the Yorktown neighborhood, just before 6:30 last night for a crash involving an overturned vehicle. At least two vehicles, including a minivan, and a pickup truck that overturned, were involved. [Twitter]

Apartment Fire in Ashton Heights — Firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire in the storage room of an apartment building in Ashton Heights yesterday afternoon. The fire happened on the 500 block of N. Piedmont Street and was “kept small by sprinklers.” [Twitter]

I-66 Tolls Not as Bad as You Might Think — According to VDOT, tolls on the first day of HOT lanes on I-66 were, on average, not too bad: “The average round-trip toll price was $14.50, with the average morning toll paid of $10.70 and average afternoon toll paid of $3.80. This average toll rate is lower than the estimated average toll rate of $17.00 round-trip discussed in 2015.” Also, Friday morning’s tolls were lower than those of previous days. Kaspersky Closes Arlington Office — Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Labs has closed its government sales office in Arlington as a result of the government banning use of Kaspersky antivirus software on federal computers. The company “came under tough US scrutiny after US officials became concerned about the company’s links to the Russian government.” [Buzzfeed]

BREAKING: Car Flips on Wilson Blvd After Striking Park Ranger SUV

Police and firefighters are on scene of a rollover crash on Wilson Blvd involving an Arlington County Park Ranger.

A car reportedly struck the back of the park ranger’s SUV, causing it to flip on its roof. Wilson Blvd is currently blocked at Patrick Henry, near Upton Hill Regional Park, while police investigate and the wreckage is cleared.

No serious injuries were reported.

Update at 1:20 p.m. — The westbound lanes of Wilson Blvd have reopened.

Vehicle Crashes into Woods, Overturns Along Army Navy Drive

An SUV careened into woods and overturned during this morning’s commute.

The incident happened along the 1600 block of Army Navy Drive, police said, not far from Pentagon City. The crash scene was also near Army-Navy Country Club and the ramp from I-395 to Arlington Ridge Road.

A police spokeswoman said the vehicle had been traveling along Army Navy Drive at the time of the crash.

One person was transported to the hospital, according to police. One lane of Army Navy Drive has reopened but drivers should expect delays in the area.

BREAKING: Walter Reed Drive Closed Due to Major Crash, Wires Down

All lanes of S. Walter Reed Drive are closed in the area of Four Mile Run Drive due to a major crash.

The wreck happened just before 3:45 p.m. Monday on the steep hill leading down to Four Mile Run Drive. Initial reports suggest that at least three vehicles were involved and at least two people were hurt and are being transported to the hospital.

At least one of the vehicles overturned as a result of the crash, which knocked down utility poles and wires.

A number of people witnessed the crash. Witnesses reportedly told police that one of the drivers crossed into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed.

Car Flips Near Fairlington

A vehicle overturned on the road from Shirlington to Fairlington Monday night.

The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on the 4200 block of 31st Street S.

It’s unclear how the crash happened. At least one parked car had visible damage near the flipped car.

It was initially reported that one person was trapped in the car, but that person was able to “self-extricate,” according to scanner traffic. No serious injuries were reported.

The road was closed following the wreck, while police waited for a tow crew to arrive.

Car Flips On Spout Run Parkway, Slides Into Woods

A car flipped on Spout Run Parkway this morning, rolling down a steep slope into the woods nearby.

Officers from the U.S. Park Police responded to the southbound side of the parkway just after its intersection with Lorcom Lane around 10:45 a.m. today (Wednesday).

The driver appeared to lose control of the car before careering off the road and into the woods. There were no injuries reported.

Park Police were on scene, and by 11 a.m. a tow truck was on scene to remove the wrecked car. A police car occupied the right-hand lane nearby. There were no significant traffic impacts.

At least four other incidents of vehicles flipping or running into the woods along Spout Run Parkway have been reported over the past six years, including one incident last year of a motorcycle chase ending on the parkway.

Car Flips in East Falls Church Parking Lot

A driver “hit the gas instead of the brakes” and flipped her car in the East Falls Church Metro commuter parking lot this morning, according to a fire department spokesman.

The incident was first reported around 7 a.m.

Rescuers from the Arlington County Fire Department helped to extricate the woman from the overturned vehicle. She was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, the spokesman said.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Car Flips After Crash on GW Parkway Near Reagan National Airport

Update at 4:35 p.m. — The northbound lanes of the parkway have reopened.

Earlier: Northbound lanes of the GW Parkway are blocked due to a multi-vehicle crash involving an overturned car.

The crash happened around 3:50 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the Parkway near Reagan National Airport and left one car on its roof. According to scanner traffic, all occupants of the cars involved were able to get out without the assistance of rescuers.

A man and woman were reported to be injured in the crash. One was transported via ambulance to the trauma center at George Washington University Hospital, while the other was taken to Virginia Hospital Center for treatment.

Northbound traffic is blocked and being diverted. One southbound lane is also blocked by the emergency response. The closures, coming during the evening rush hour, are causing significant traffic delays.

Arlington police and fire department units responded to the call, assisted by others from Alexandria and U.S. Park Police.

SUV Overturns in Wilson Blvd Crash

An SUV flipped on its side as a result of a two-vehicle crash on Wilson Blvd this morning.

The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Wilson and N. Rhodes Street, roughly between Rosslyn and Courthouse. The intersection is home to the Rhodeside Grill restaurant.

The road was blocked immediately following the crash, causing some traffic tie-ups.

No word yet on whether there were any injuries.

Car Flips on Lee Highway Near Rosslyn

A collision between two cars that left one on its side closed two lanes of Lee Highway near the Key Bridge Marriott Hotel in Rosslyn.

The crash happened around 4 p.m., near the intersection with N. Oak Street. A driver heading west on Lee Highway in a grey Audi collided with an Infiniti looking to turn right from N. Oak Street. The two collided, with the Infiniti left on its side.

Police closed the two outside lanes of Lee Highway, but left traffic through in the right-hand lane with an officer directing traffic.

Paramedics were dispatched for three reported injuries according to scanner traffic, none of them said to be life-threatening. Medics did not appear to require a stretcher, as it was removed with no one in it.

Just before 4:30 p.m., crews were preparing a winch to upright the stricken Infiniti. The Audi’s front was smashed in and it was still in the roadway.
