Man Arrested for Bathroom Peeping — “1700 block of Fort Myer Drive. At approximately 3:25 a.m. on March 18, police were dispatched to the report of a peeping. Upon arrival, it was determined that the male victim was using the restroom when he observed a cell phone placed through the crack of the stall. The victim confronted the known suspect and alerted building security.” [Arlington County]

Arlington Startup Moving to D.C. — “Auto refinancing startup MotoRefi is moving its headquarters from Arlington to D.C. and beefing up its executive team, the company said in an announcement. The company has signed a 22,000-square-foot lease at 1717 Rhode Island Ave. NW, relocating to a larger space as its workforce continues to grow. It plans on opening the new office, in the same building as venture firm Revolution and Uber, later in 2021, it said.” [Washington Business Journal]

Why Elmo is on the County Manager’s Desk — County Board member Katie Cristol, in response to a question about an Elmo toy seen on County Manager Mark Schwartz’s desk during Saturday’s virtual Board meeting: “My Elmo-obsessed kid made an on camera appearance at Thursday’s 4.5 hour work session, and Mark, who is a real sweetheart, brought out his own Elmo on the videoconference, to no end of delight from my two-year old.” [Twitter]

Tree Falls in Aurora Highlands — A large tree fell across 23rd Street S. in Aurora Highland, near Crystal City, yesterday evening around 5:15 p.m. It happened near the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church, between S. Ives and Hayes streets, amid gusty winds that felled other trees and branches around Arlington. The tree reportedly fell on a passing car, but those inside the vehicle were not injured. [Twitter]

Challenger Presses Favola — “Affordable housing and ethical issues took center stage as Democratic contenders for the 31st state Senate seat last week squared off for the first time leading up to the June 11 primary. Facing an uphill battle to knock off a two-term incumbent, challenger Nicole Merlene pressed the case that state Sen. Barbara Favola is too beholden to special interests to effectively represent the district.” [InsideNova]

Overturned SUV Along I-395 — Around 6 p.m. Sunday, an SUV overturned on a ramp to I-395 near Washington Blvd. A photo sent by a tipster shows the SUV on its side near the guardrail. No serious injuries were reported. [Twitter]

Crime Report: Armed Robbery Goes Wrong When Gun Goes Off

Two would-be robbers were foiled when they accidentally fired a gunshot during their robbery attempt, according to Arlington County Police.

The alleged incident happened around 11 p.m. last Thursday, on the 1900 block of N. Culpeper Street in the Halls Hill neighborhood.

Police say two men dressed in all black tried to rob a man who was standing outside of his residence. When the man refused to give them money, one of the suspects pistol whipped him, but accidentally fired a shot in the process. That prompted the suspects to flee the scene empty-handed.

No one was hurt and nothing was damaged by the shot, but the victim suffered a laceration on his head from being struck with the gun, according to police. The suspects remain at large.

ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY, 2019-01240225, 1900 block of N. Culpepper Street. At approximately 10:58 p.m. on January 24, police were dispatched to the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim was outside of his residence when he was approached by two male suspects. One suspect brandished a firearm and demanded money. When the victim declined, he was struck in the head with the firearm, causing a laceration that required medical treatment. Simultaneously, this action resulted in the discharge of the firearm. The suspects fled on foot prior to police arrival. No additional damage or injuries were reported as a result of the discharge of the firearm. Arriving officers canvased the area and a K9 track was initiated with negative results. The suspects are described as two black males, approximately 6’0″-6’1″, approximately 30-40 years old, wearing black pants, black hooded sweatshirts, black hats and black sneakers. The investigation is ongoing.

This week, police responded to a store on the 4700 block of Columbia Pike for a report of a man filming women in a dressing room. The only clothing store on that block is the Goodwill retail store.

PEEPING, 2019-01280189, 4700 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 7:19 p.m. on January 28, police were dispatched to the report of a peeper. Upon arrival, it was determined that the female victims were inside the dressing room at a business when they observed a male suspect holding a cell phone over the dressing room wall and allegedly taking photos. The victims confronted the suspect and informed him they were calling police, which prompted him to flee the business prior to police arrival. The suspect is described as a tall, thin black male, approximately 5’11”-6’0″, with dreadlocks, a black beard, chipped teeth with a gap in the center, wearing a long black jacket, light khaki pants, white headphones, and black and white sneakers. The investigation is ongoing.

Crime Report: Peeper Peeps Through Cracked Door

Police were called to a residence near the Walter Reed Community Center last week for a report of a man peeping through an slightly ajar door.

Officers were dispatched shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Friday, July 25 for a report of a hoodie-wearing man staring in at the female resident. When she closed the door, he fled.

PEEPING, 2018-07250019, 2900 block of 16th Road S. At approximately 1:23 a.m. on July 25, police were dispatched to the report of a peeping just occurred. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim awoke to an unknown male suspect looking into her residence through a slightly ajar door. When the victim noticed the suspect and shut the door fully, the suspect fled.  The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6’3″, with a slim build, with brown eyebrows, wearing dark framed glasses and a dark gray hoodie with the hood up. The investigation is ongoing.

Police Arrest Man for Peeping Near Lyon Park Apartment Complex

Arlington police arrested a man for peering into a window and trying to force it open near a Lyon Park apartment complex Tuesday night (July 24).

County police say they received a call about a man looking into the window of a home along the 100 block of N. Wayne Street just after midnight Tuesday. The block is home to the Washington and Lee Apartments, just off Washington Blvd.

Two people tried to confront the man, but he fled the scene on foot. Officers subsequently apprehended 33-year-old Andelino Carrillo Najarro, and charged him with peeping into a dwelling and drunk in public.

He’s now being held without bond, awaiting an Aug. 22 hearing in Arlington County General District Court.

PEEPING, 2018-07240004, 100 block of N. Wayne Street. At approximately 12:10 a.m. on July 24, police were dispatched to the report of peeping. Upon arrival, it was determined that a witness observed an unknown male suspect looking into the window of a residence and attempting to open the window. After being confronted by the witness and victim, the suspect attempted to flee the scene on foot prior to police arrival. Andelino Carrillo Najarro, 33, of Arlington, VA, was arrested and charged with Peeping and Drunk in Public. He was held on no bond.

Shopper in Pentagon City Confronts Alleged Dressing Room Peeper

A shopper at a store in the Pentagon City mall confronted a man after she found a cell phone in her dressing room with its camera pointing upwards.

Police say the confrontation happened around 8 p.m. Wednesday. The man denied involvement and walked off.

“The investigation is ongoing,” police said.

UNLAWFUL FILMING, 2018-04110221, 1100 block of S. Hayes Street. At approximately 7:57 p.m. on April 11, police were dispatched to the report of a peeping tom. Upon arrival, it was determined that while the female victim was in a dressing room, she observed a cell phone on the floor with its camera pointing upwards. The victim confronted the male subject in the dressing room next to hers who denied involvement in the incident. The subject fled the scene prior to police arrival. The subject is described as an Asian male, approximately 5’9″, with a heavy accent, clean shaven with scars on his face, wearing a dark jacket, dark jeans, and carrying a backpack on his back. The investigation is ongoing.

Peeping Tom Arrested After Foot Chase

A man was arrested early Monday morning for a peeping incident in Clarendon.

Police say a resident heard a noise from outside her house on the 1000 block of N. Cleveland Street and then saw a man trying to get in via a sliding glass door.

The suspect took off running upon seeing the woman, and was later arrested by police “following a brief foot pursuit.” Edwin Espana, a 30-year-old Arlington resident, is now facing several charges including peeping and drunk in public.

PEEPING, 2018-03260012, 1000 block of N. Cleveland Street. At approximately 12:58 a.m. on March 26, police were dispatched to the report of an attempted breaking and entering. Upon arrival, it was determined that the female victim heard noise originating from outside her sliding glass door. Upon investigation, the victim observed a male suspect allegedly attempting to gain entry into the residence. Upon seeing the victim, the suspect fled the scene on foot. Arriving officers broadcast a lookout for the suspect and following a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody. Edwin Ayala Espana, 30, of Arlington, VA was arrested and charged with Peeping into an Occupied Dwelling, Unlawful Entry and Drunk in Public. He was held on a secured bond.

Separately, another peeping incident was reported Monday night in south Arlington:

PEEPING, 2018-03260215, 2800 block of 9th Street S. At approximately 9:08 p.m. on March 26, police were dispatched to the report of a possible peeping tom. Upon arrival, it was determined that the witness observed an unknown suspect looking into the window of a residence. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival and officers canvased the area with negative results. The suspect is described as a male, 30-45 years old wearing a dark jacket and black knit cap. The investigation is ongoing.

Police Looking for Man Who Filmed Woman in Dressing Room

Arlington County Police are trying to find a man who used his cell phone to film a woman in a dressing room.

The incident happened Wednesday evening on the unit block of S. Glebe Road, the same block as the Goodwill retail store.  Police say a woman was in a dressing room when she saw a man reach under the wall with his phone. The suspect then fled the scene.

PEEPING, 2018-02280206, Unit block of S. Glebe Road. At approximately 5:25 p.m. on February 28, police were dispatched to the report of a subject recording a female victim in a dressing room. Upon arrival, it was determined that at approximately 5:00 p.m., while the victim was inside of a fitting room, an unknown male suspect reached under the wall and began recording her with a cell phone. The victim shouted for help and the suspect left the fitting room. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. The suspect is described as a light skinned Hispanic male, approximately 40 years old, with a heavy build, a short neck, short curly, black hair, wearing a gray and red striped shirt, a dark jacket, gray or khaki pants, carrying a dark backpack.

Peeper Confronted in Madison Manor

A man seen peeping into a home in the Madison Manor neighborhood fled the scene after being confronted by a passerby.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. last night, two blocks from McKinley Elementary School.

PEEPING, 2017-10040316, 900 block of McKinley Road. At approximately 9:08 p.m. on October 4, police responded to the report of a peeping. Upon arrival, it was determined that a witness observed an unknown male suspect peering into a residential window. When confronted by the witness, the suspect fled the area on foot. A canvas of the area by the responding officer was negative. The suspect is described as a white male between the ages of 18-25 with a thin build. He was wearing red shorts, a black tank top and a black baseball hat the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

Police: Man Filmed Woman While in Bathroom of Clarendon Restaurant

A man allegedly filmed a woman in the bathroom stall of a Clarendon restaurant last night.

The incident happened just before 9 p.m. Monday, on the 3100 block of Wilson Blvd, according to the Arlington County Police Department. That block, across from the Clarendon Metro station, is home to a long stretch of bars and restaurants.

Police say that the woman was in the bathroom when she looked up and saw a man filming her with what appeared to be a cell phone.

“The victim advised that she was inside the restroom when she felt a presence, causing her to look up,” said ACPD spokeswoman Ashley Savage. “The victim then observed an unknown male suspect recording her. Once the victim observed the suspect, he fled the scene on foot.”

“The suspect is described as a 50-60 year old white male with long gray hair and blue eyes,” Savage continued. “He was wearing a blue plaid shirt and blue jeans at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.”

Peeper Peeps on Private Property, Police Pursue But Perimeter Penetrated

Police car (file photo)An alleged peeping tom led police on a foot chase in the Old Glebe neighborhood Wednesday night.

The chase started after officers responded to the 3900 block of N. Abingdon Street around 6:30 p.m. for a “report of a man hiding in the bushes” near a house.

From an Arlington County Police crime report:

Upon arrival, an officer observed the suspect on the property. The suspect saw the officer and fled the scene on foot. A brief foot pursuit was initiated but the officer lost sight of the suspect. A perimeter was established and a K9 track was conducted with negative results. The suspect is described as a black male in his early thirties, approximately 5’8″-6’0″ tall with a black beard. He was wearing a black hoodie and blue running pants with a white stripe at the time of the incident.
