Meet Layla, a 2 year old black goldendoodle that lives in Rosslyn and is this week’s Pet of the Week.

Here is what Layla wanted to tell us about her life here in Arlington:

My name is Layla, and I am a [not so golden] black goldendoodle living in Rosslyn! I have only been roaming this earth for two years, but my mom has taken me on all of her adventures from Amman, Jordan to Arlington, Virginia. In Jordan, I assisted my mom in organizing English classes and after school sports programs for Syrian refugee girls. When duty called, it was my honor to interact with the students and be a calming and therapeutic presence. After a year and a half, I moved to Arlington to help my mom with her international security degree at the Schar School of Policy and Government.

Living in such a dog friendly city makes it easy for my mom to bring me everywhere. Barley Mac is my favorite restaurant, and when my mom and I walk by, I am always ready to walk onto the patio for a quick bite to eat. While taking our walks around Rosslyn, we cover the US Marine Corps War Memorial, Dark Star Park, and many people who smile as I pass by. Finding my place in the United States has been easy in Arlington where I feel so welcomed every day!

Meet Arlington’s newest Pet of the Week, Bojangles, a 7 year old Australian Shepherd Corgi mix who loves to nap.

Here is what Bojangles’ owner has to say about his life here in Arlington:

Bojangles is a 7-year-old Australian Shepherd/Corgi mix! At only 15″ tall, Bojangles compensates for his stature in sheer fluff and bark volume. When he’s not napping on the couch or staring at his humans, he enjoys watching intently over the intersection of Fairfax Drive and N Monroe St from his window and performing the only two tricks he knows: shake and high five.

Despite his limited trick repertoire, Bojangles is a true intellectual, ever searching for the answers to life’s trickiest questions: What does the discarded pizza crust in Quincy Park taste like? Where do my humans go during the day? How many times must I bark at a scooter before it barks back?

Although he was adopted from a rural area SIX years ago now, he’s never gotten used to city life–trucks, children, bikes, joggers, other dogs and generally anything that moves is still quite offensive to Bojangles’ sensibilities. If you see Bojangles out and about (you’ll recognize him by the barking), please feel free to say hello! He’s loud and socially awkward but loves attention and will happily accept pets and cuddles. You can follow Bojangles’ updates via his mom’s IG: @poppymerrell!

Meet Arlington’s newest Pet of the Week Heidi,  an 8 year old Mastiff who loves getting her nails painted.

Here what Heidi’s owner had to say about her life here in Arlington:

Heidi is an 8 year old mastiff who hails from the beaches of Southern California. She misses swimming at the dog beach year round, but is very impressed by Westover’s squirrel population. When Heidi isn’t getting her nails painted her signature pink or grabbing a puppuccino from Starbucks, she can be found sleeping on her humans’ bed or sofa.

Heidi was 25 lbs overweight when she was rescued six years ago. The vet ran lots of tests, but ultimately diagnosed her as clinically fat and lazy. She loves belly rubs, and will eat anything that remotely resembles food. She currently holds the unofficial title of world’s largest lapdog.

If you see Heidi around town, please stop her and say hello. Heidi is the center of her humans’ world, but she has no sense of loyalty and will love you just as much as she loves them. Or more if you have treats.

This week two kittens are Arlington’s Pet of the Week: Chip and Queso.

Here is what the feline brothers’ owner has to say about their new lives in Arlington:

Chip, a grey tabby, and Queso, an orange tabby, are 8 months old and are, in fact, brothers…though you wouldn’t guess it by the looks of them. Rescued by City Kitties from a rural farm in West Virginia, they now enjoy the urban life in Clarendon.

Chip’s hobbies including eating, chasing Queso, and darting into his home away from home, the common area hallway, each and every time the front door opens. He has an affinity for the refrigerator and will eagerly jump inside it, given the opportunity. Of the two brothers, he is the more vocal, and will make it known when he is ready for his human servants to feed him.

Queso excels at playing with cat coils, his favorite toys. He owns approximately 50 of them, 45 or so of which are under the sofa at any given time. He is mesmerized by water and enjoys paw bathing in the sink. If he’s not relaxing on his personalized blankie, you can probably find him nestled in a cardboard box or hanging out inside an IKEA bag, his other favorite toy.

To enjoy Chip and Queso’s daily antics, follow them on Instagram at @chipandquesokitties.

Meet Arlington’s newest Pet of the Week, Archimedes, a rescue that has just mastered the command ‘sit’ and is working on learning more.

Here is what Archie’s owner told us that he has to say about his life in Arlington:

Hi my name is Archimedes, after the Greek Mathematician, but you can call me Archie. My litter-mates and I were rescued from a kill shelter and my new mom and dad got me before Christmas. I was the unique pup of the bunch, being the only brindle with blue-green eyes

Currently I love my cookie monster, blankies, meeting new people, and being told I have the prettiest eyes and coat. I’ve totally mastered ‘sit’, but most everything else is gibberish. Hopefully I’ll grow smarter each day to live up to my namesake, but for now I’ll eat every leaf in sight.

Meet Arlington’s newest Pet of the Week, Bruiser, a 15-year-old Chihuahua who is named after Elle Wood’s companion in Legally Blond.

Here is what Bruiser’s owner has to say about the star:

Bruiser has had the honor of staring in a production of Legally Blonde the Musical, as you may have guessed, as himself.  Although the fame went to his head for a few weeks, he is very humble in his old age. Bruiser was adopted by Kacie Brady at the age of eight years old after he was “too much to handle” for another family.

His favorite activities include sleeping on a lap (he’s not picky), sleeping in his bed(s), and waking up for food. His dislikes include wood floors, of which his family’s entire house is made of, his rival, a black cat named JoJo who torments him when he sleeps, and snow that he gets lost in.

He mostly wants to be in his bed or cuddled up next to the nearest human. He doesn’t care for toys or walks, but he does love soft dog treats he can munch on with his few remaining teeth. Although he is very subdued, he does have occasional bursts of energy — usually around dinner time — where he wags his tail that is almost the same size as his body. He is a good old man who just wants to be on/under/next to you.

Arlington’s newest Pet of the Week is Olivia Rose, who loves lounging around in her Caps jersey.

Here is a little bit from Olivia Rose, or Oli for short, on her life here in Arlington:

I’m Oliva Rose but you can call me Oli. I’m not really too sure about my past life, it’s hard to keep up when you’re given 9 of them! All I know is, I managed to get a cute cauliflower ear but it made it a bit hard to listen to my hoooman mom and sisters. They did me a huge favor by getting rid of that bad boy. Now, I don’t have to constantly scratch my ear all day!

My favorite thing to do is hangout on mom’s make up chair, I think the fabric is fabulous for a lady like me. When I’m not on my throne, I take over mom’s king size bed. She actually got me this blanket that I don’t let anyone use but me, myself, and I. Sometimes I hang out in my sister’s room when she’s around because she’s usually watching netfix or something. I also loooove lounging around in my caps jersey, especially on game day. Doesn’t it look great on me?

It was nice chattin’ with ya! You on find me on insta @oneearwonderoli.

Meet the Arlington Pet of the Week, Ludo, a 4-year-old feline who has a crooked ear that adds to his charm.

Here is what Ludo’s owner, Beth, had to say about his life here in Arlington:

Ludo is a 4-year old gray domestic medium hair who may also be part Nebelung. He was named after the character “Ludo” in the movie Labyrinth because of his docile nature and his love of friendship. Ludo lived on the rough streets of rural VA before he was rescued by City Kitties, and now lives a calm life in retirement with his human in Ballston. His favorite activities include eating, sleeping on the floor, playing with his pink fish toy, and hanging out next to his human.

He loves to play with his pink fish toy more than anything, especially when his human uses the pole to whip the toy around so he can chase it. When he wants to play, he’ll sit in front of the closet where all the toys are kept and stare longingly at it. Sometimes, when he catches the pink toy, he’ll take it over to his favorite spot– next to the closet– and meow so you can be proud of the great job he did.

Ludo has a permanently crooked ear, but he doesn’t let it slow him down. In fact, it adds to his charm– and boy does he have a lot of charm. He enchants all the vets he meets, and has a knack for making the ladies fall to their knees (so they can pet him of course). With his silky fur and his chill demeanor, he is definitely a special guy!

Meet Arlington’s newest Pet of the Week, Coco, a 12 year old Bichon-Poodle mix who loves to nap.

Here’s what her owner, Janet, said Coco had to say:

My name is Coco and I live in Lyon Village.  I am a 12 year old Bichon-Poodle mix and came to live with my family when I was a puppy.  I had a lot of energy when I was little, but now I really like to nap – on the floor, on the couch, in my bed. Well, really I like to nap anywhere!  The one thing that wakes me up is when a friend walks by.  I run to the front door so that my mom will let me out to say hello.  Sometimes I like to sit on the front sidewalk so I can greet my doggie friends on their walks. My mom says I am part cat because I like to lay in the sun.

Although I enjoy walks around the neighborhood, my favorite places are hiking trails.  I might look like a princess, but I love nothing more than to run in the woods and get really dirty.  For shorter walks, my favorite place is Fort CF Smith.  When I am feeling my age, this short loop is perfect for me.  I have always loved toys, especially the squeaky ones.  I still like to play fetch and tug of war every day!  Afterwards, you guessed it – time for a nap!

This week’s Pet of the Week is Kimba, who loves chasing laser pointers and feathers.

Here’s what Kimba’s owner had to say about his life here in Arlington:

Kimba (also known as Sir Kimba of Arlington) was born in the Republic of Turkey.  Him and his litter mate, the aptly named Mr. Meowgi, bravely crossed the Ocean together to find a better life in America.

They wound up in the care of the Lost Dog and Cat Foundation, before they were taken home to Arlington by their adoptive human.  Though they are immigrants, it didn’t take them long to embrace Arlington as their home.

Kimba’s favorite activities include chasing feather toys and laser pointers, catching bugs, jumping on the television and the bookshelf, posing for selfies, and cuddling with dad, and fighting with his Mr. Meowgi for the highest spot on the cat tree.

This week’s Pet of the Week is Max, a German shepherd that lives in Crystal City and loves tennis balls.

Here is what Max’s family had to say about his life here in Arlington with his owner:

Max is a happy 2 ½ year-old german shepherd who lives in a pet-friendly apartment complex in Crystal City with his owner, Jordan. Jordan walks Max three times a day around the neighborhood or to the building’s dog park. Sometimes, when Jordan is busy during the day, a helping neighbor, Mimi, takes Max with her own dog Vlad to the building dog park. Vlad and Max have become best friends! Thank you, Mimi. It takes a village.

Max loves to play with tennis balls and he is very good at it.  He jumps high to catch them and never misses!  On weekends or on Jordan’s days off, Max and Jordan can be seen in Arlington’s great dog parks like Glencarlyn, James Hunter, Shirlington or Towers Park.  Occasionally, Jordan and Max will venture to Fairfax’s interconnector trail for a wilder adventure.

At 100 lbs, Max is a force of nature. When he wants to go, he goes!  But at the same time, Max is very loving and very sweet. He loves to cuddle with family and is quick to make new friends. Everyone who meets him instantly loves him.
