This week’s Pet of the Week is Colin, a rescue brought to Arlington from South Carolina who loves chasing squirrels and smelling the flowers.

Here is what Colin’s owner said that he has to say about his life in Arlington:

Hi, I’m Colin! People always say that Colin is a unique name for a dog, and I think it fits my unique story. I was born in South Carolina, and was brought to DC by Lucky Dog Rescue in 2017 when I was just a baby. When my human dad found me, he knew it was meant to be-Colin is my human dad’s middle name!

I have been an Arlington Forest resident ever since and love living here, despite those mischievous chipmunks and squirrels roaming the neighborhood. I do my part to keep them out of my (and everyone else’s) yards, and you can often find me awkwardly sticking my nose in drainage tubes to hunt them down. Known around the neighborhood and dog park for my boundless energy, I often use my incredible speed to steal others’ tennis balls, but I love playing with other dogs. I love meeting people and will immediately roll over to get belly scratchies (a little to the left, please). My humans reward me with affection rather than food, but I do love munching on fallen ice cubes dropped by my other clumsy human.

I am not without my vices, however; out of desperation, my dad played squirrel videos on Youtube when I was scared at the vet to help distract me, and I have been slightly addicted ever since. If there is any kind of screen around, I push my nose to it to try to make a squirrel video appear. Once I even bought a $60 game subscription from my dad’s Amazon account!

Life is too short not to be happy-stop and smell the flowers once in a while! (see picture :) )

Meet Arlington’s newest Pet of the Week Molly, who was rescued as a small puppy and now enjoys nothing more than a game of fetch.

Here is what Molly’s owner has to say about their life together in Arlington:

This is Molly, also known as @adventurousmolly on Instagram! She is a Georgia native that was found in a ditch during a rain storm as a smol puppo, and her life was completely turned around that day thanks to some kind strangers! After several years, she decided to leave her small town behind and take on the big city.

It is widely believed that Molly is a person in a dog disguise. Molly is fluent in the English language and seems to know what you mean, no matter what you say. If you are sad or mad, she will come lay by you, reach her paw out and put it on your arm, and stare up at you with her ears back until you can’t help but forget what was wrong because she is so cute. 10/10 smart girl.

Her favorite game in the whole wide world is fetch. It is her mission, her civic duty, her responsibility, to go rescue that ball and bring it back to you. She can play for hours and never get tired of it. Her second favorite activity is snuggling with her peoples and getting heckin’ good pets. She loves other animals, including her kitty friends. She loves to come everywhere with you, which is why she is very glad that there are so many dog-friendly restaurants in Arlington.

Molly will be turning 9 in January, and we hope there will be 29 more years with her. She is an absolute angel and we love her very much.

Meet Arlington’s newest Pet of the Week, Rosie, a 10 year old Golden retriever who loves to explore new places.

Here is what Rosie has to say about her life here in Arlington:

My name is Rosie, and I am a 10 year old golden retriever living in Pentagon City with my mom and cat brother, George. I was born in a little town called Joshua, Texas. When I was 5 years old, I moved to College Station, TX to assist my mom in getting her undergraduate degree. One of my favorite activities was walking around campus and getting pets and treats from stressed out students around the library. My studies have continued here in Virginia at George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government on the Arlington campus. Greeting students and brightening their walk to class is one of the highlights of my day.

Overall, living in a community that is so dog friendly brings me constant joy. I love attention and food more than anything else in the world, and the people of Arlington love to spoil me! My favorite place to go is Sine in Pentagon City where they give me whipped cream for being a good girl. Additionally, I love watching the planes at Gravelly Point, walking on Mt. Vernon Trail, and accompanying mom and all of her friends to lunch. I am constantly wanting to explore new places and meet new people, and Arlington never disappoints!

This week’s Arlington Pet of the Week is Lilly, a 5 year old English yellow lab who loves nothing more than boating on the Potomac.

Here is what her owner says that Lilly wants to tell us about life in Arlington:

My name is Lilly and I’m a five-year-old English yellow lab residing in Ballston with my Mommy and Daddy. I was born on a farm in southern Virginia, but after eight short weeks I moved to a wonderful dog-friendly place called Arlington and have been there ever since. When I’m not barking at people on the trail that walk by my house, I like to curl up on my parents lap since, after all, I am a lap dog. My Mommy is also expecting so I’ve assumed a very important role in the house as protector of the womb. I curl up next to Mom to make sure she and baby are safe, and give kisses every morning to her belly. I can’t wait to welcome this addition to our little wolf pack and even though my parents don’t think so, I’m fairly certain the baby will look just like me.

My Mommy and Daddy love to take me with them places, but the rule is I have to behave, which can be really hard for a rambunctious lab like myself. My favorite thing to do with them is go boating on the Potomac. I have my very own red life vest, though we all know I don’t need it since I’m a lab and all labs love water. The best part of boating is when we go fast on the water and my ears flop back, just take a look at the picture!

Lastly, let’s not forget the main focus of every day for me: food. The ultimate treat for me is a magical food called peanut butter. When my parents utter the words, or even bring out the jar, my eyes get big and I become extra obedient (thank you Woofs! for your training) just to get that spoonful of peanut butter! Since food is such a huge motivator, my parents love taking me around to all the new spots in Ballston that serve dog-friendly treats. It’s no surprise that my favorite treat is a South Block peanut butter puppy smoothie, though a lot of other great spots serve puppy treats, too. I love my neighborhood so much and can’t wait for more dog-friendly places to open in Ballston Quarter!

Arlington’s newest Pet of the Week is Phil, a one-eyed “pirate kitten”.

Here is what Phil’s owner has to say about his life here in Arlington:

Phil is our little one-eyed “pirate kitten” who we adopted through CityKitties DC, a wonderful local organization that rescues pets from overcrowded shelters in surrounding states and brings them to the DC area to find loving forever homes.

Phil is from Roane County, WV and lost his eye due to an infection he had when he was rescued. He camped in the District for a bit with a CityKitties foster mom who took great care of him until he got matched with us. He still had a few issues when we brought him home, but the wonderful folks at Arlington’s very own NoVA Cat Clinic helped us get him all fixed up. Arlington cat owners – Phil cannot recommend them enough!

Now that he’s back in good health, he loves running “Phil-speed” around our condo and wrestling with his big brother, Rudi. He has a big sister too, but she’s a pretty reserved gal, so he’s still working on charming his way over to her good side. He loves playing with tinsel balls, his cat tunnel, and anything dangly, but can also be counted on to provide plenty of snuggles and purrs on your chest when you’re relaxing on the couch or home sick from work. He also has some pretty neat “tuxedo” markings that include a little black goatee, a perfect wishbone design on his belly, and a little white smudge that grew in over the scar from his eye surgery.

Famed fashion designer Marc Jacobs said; “I always find beauty in things that are odd and imperfect – they are much more interesting.” That’s exactly how we feel about Phil.

Arlington’s Pet of the Week is Mia, a 5 year old tuxedo cat who loves sunbathing in her cat tower.

Here is what Mia’s owner has to say about her life here in Arlington:

Mia is a 5 year old tuxedo kitty who only weighs 6 lbs! Mia has some neurological problems – she failed most of her reflex tests at the vet which was probably due to malnutrition before I rescued her as a kitten. She may bump into some furniture now and again but according to her, she’s absolutely normal and definitely runs the show at our house!

Mia is endlessly comical and provides us with nonstop entertainment. She commands 24/7 cuddling and is happiest when burying into your neck and falling asleep on your chest. Mia doesn’t meow like regular cats, but instead has a high-pitched squeak and she’s very chatty.  I’ve never known a cat to have such a variety of things to say; it feels like real communication! She also usually sits or sleeps with her legs all over the place. She is the most unusual and silly cat I’ve ever had and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Besides cuddling and squeaking, Mia’s favorite activities include sleeping in the sun in her cat tower, sleeping on her heating pad, eating catnip, and chasing a bouncy ball around the house.

This week’s Pet of the Week is Abby, a 5 year old Lhasa Apso.

Here’s what Abby has to say about her life here in Arlington:

Hello, my name is Abby and I am a 5 year old Lhasa Apso! My human dad says I am the best dog ever and spoils me with endless cuddles, treats, toys and most importantly, a forever home.

Life wasn’t always easy for me though. When I was 2 years old, my original owners dropped me off at a shelter because they could no longer afford to take care of my grooming needs and skin conditions (I’m allergic to just about everything!). When my human dad found me, I was a tiny ball of matted fur, bald spots and severely inflamed skin.

I was very scared and didn’t understand the changes happening in my life, but my human dad rescued me from the shelter and has given me unconditional love and care ever since! After a few months of special shampoos, regular grooming visits, and a hydrolyzed protein diet, my fur was shiny and soft again and my skin was in great condition! I love my human dad, he’s my best friend and we’re very lucky to be in each other’s lives.

Meet Arlington’s newest Pet of the Week, 9 year old Australian Shepherd and Border Collie mix, Keller.

Here is what his owner has to say about Keller’s life here in Arlington.

After being a foster failure, Keller, a 9 year-old half blind, half deaf, Australian Shepard/Border Collie, was adopted 2.5 years ago in Alamance County, North Carolina. Although his early years were filled with fast food restaurants, and living out of a car, his life turned around, and graduated college, 10lbs lighter in May of 2019!

The life of any party, Keller loves any and all attention, especially belly rubs, head rubs, and a treat or 2. Although water is not his thing, he loves going to the groomer and getting a fresh haircut and manicure, and is sure to show off his good looks to anyone willing to listen.

His favorite part of the day is going for his walk, even though the pesky parked cars, telephone poles, and sidewalks tend to get in his way, he just shakes them off and keeps going. A big fan of having other doggo friends, he prefers humans, because well…they have treats and more belly rubs.

Arlington’s Pet of the Week is Paprika, a 5 month old Pomeranian mix who recently came to Arlington from Colombia.

Here is what Paprika’s owner said that she had to say about her life so far.

My name is Paprika. I am a five month old Pomeranian mix from Colombia. My human mommy rescued me from Popayan, Colombia when I was a tiny baby. I wasn’t eating much on my first day so she stayed up all night feeding me until I was strong enough to feed from my birth mom.

I waited 4 long months to be reunited with my human mommy in Arlington. I took a bus and two planes to get here but it was worth it! My human mommy and I like to go on hikes and adventures every weekend. My favorite so far has been hiking in a creek and chasing all the squirrels, birds and leaves. I also like saying hi and trying to play with every dog we pass on walks.

I’m learning new things every day. Every day is an adventure for me and I am so thankful my human mommy found me.

This week’s Arlington Pet of the Week is P, who is very excited to be a part of her owners’ upcoming wedding.

Here is what P’s owner, Matthew says that she wants to say about her life here in Arlington:

Hello, everyone. My name is P and I am almost two years old. I am parts Terrier, Lab, Shepherd, Bulldog, and Chow Chow. My parents adopted me in the summer of 2018 to complete their engagement and they are getting married this weekend. They have told me if I promise to make grown-up decisions I will get to walk down the aisle and take pictures with them.

However, I was reminded that these decisions do not include chasing squirrels, bunnies, or birds — which I am exceptionally fond of doing. I also love waking my parents up in the morning before sunrise so that I can fetch balls as the sun pops up over the horizon. And I am a big fan of sunbathing on our balcony. Dislikes include brushing my teeth and Chihuahuas.

This week’s Pet of the week is Lacy, a kitten who was rescued from a Silver Spring shelter and now lives happily here in Arlington.

Here is what Lacy’s owner said that she has to say about her happy new life:

Kayla brought me to Arlington from a rescue shelter in Silver Spring, Maryland when I was only six weeks old. It was an exciting journey for such a young age, and I was thrilled to find my forever home. My new family showered me with love immediately, and I always want to return the favor.

I am known to give Kayla baths, just as my mom gave to me when I was a newborn kitten. It’s a sign of my affection and appreciation for all she does for me. I am also quite the talker. I am ready to greet Kayla when she gets home from work, talk to her when she wakes up in the morning, and makes sure she is aware of my presence every other time in the day. When Kayla is not home, I enjoy laying on the back of her couch in the sun and turning on the kitchen sink to play in the water. And when it’s time for bed, I like to either curl up on her feet or chest — it really just depends on the day!

I consider myself to be a fairly social cat. Kayla calls me her little furball of energy.  All of Kayla’s friends give me tons of attention, and I love playing with them (except when they fool me with that darn laser pointer!). I just know wherever I am, I will always be surrounded by caring individuals who love me. I am very thankful I found such a loving home, and it is my wish for cats around the world to find humans who love them as much as Kayla loves me.
