Arlington’s new Pet of the Week is Bitey, a one-year-old dog mysteriously born from a Bernese mountain mother and miniature poodle father.

Here is what Bitey’s owner, Dan, had to say:

Long before she joined her family, her owner’s decided over a decade ago (and perhaps over a few too many drinks) that if they ever did get a dog it would be named Bitey. Now that she’s here, her name prompts other parents to pull their kids closer, and other dog owners to pull taut their leashes. But once she bounds upon them looking for pets and hugs, all is well, assuming she doesn’t tumble them with enthusiasm.

When not out and about, Bitey is an ineffective but relentless backyard squirrel chaser, a gourmand consumer of toilet paper rolls, an incessant dispenser of licks and a huge proponent of lying near her dog bed but not on it. Highlights of her day include waking up the adults an hour before they need to, waking up all the kids for school (especially on Saturdays), and waking up the neighbors by barking. She is a huge fan of chase games at the dog park, and despite her 23 pound frame size she loves nothing more than shutting up bigger dogs that have far more bark than bite.

(Updated at 7:15 p.m.) This week two puppies are pet of the week: Lapis and Opal.

Here’s more about the four-legged sisters from their owner Jeanne:

They are [Shih] Ztu sisters adopted last summer from dear friends in Tennessee.  Their Momma was pure white and their Poppa was all black – can you guess who the take after?

They love long walks, belly rubs, car rides, playing with toys and each other.  As you can see from their pics they had really long hair and are loving the new look.  What girl does not like going to the salon?

My Dad and I love to spoil these girls with affection and they spoil us right back.  My Dad is known to say, “Am I to be bathed or to be drowned?” when the girls start licking his face.

This week a year-and-half-old kitten named Puppy is the Arlington Pet of the Week.

Here’s owner Zach’s biography of this CatDog’s journey to his home:

In my first seven months after birth, I had four different owners until I was adopted by my current pawrents. Because of this, I am very shy in front of strangers, but very chill when my pawrents keeping me company.

Whenever they are watching a movie, I like to snuggle with them on sofa. I like to sleep in my pawrent’s closest, and waking them up in the morning by jumping on the bed (just like a puppy!). I also enjoy my pawrents giving me a massage.

Keep up with my life on Instagram @real_puppythecat !

This week’s Arlington Pet of the Week is Wingo, a Chinese crested dog with a taste for paper products.

Here’s what his owner, Brook, had to say about him:

This is Wingo! He’s a hairless Chinese Crested who just turned 2 in January. Fun story: his mom fell in love with the breed many years ago after pet-sitting one and after waiting 6 years, who did she luck into finding at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington in January 2018 but this cutie! It was meant to be.

Admittedly, Wingo is a pretty weird dog in both looks and personality (said in the most loving way!). He loves eating paper products, much to his parents’ dismay, and feathers which he steals from all the pillows. He’s currently taking a nosework training class that focuses on scent-finding, which he absolutely loves! He also flaunts his nudity and becomes incredibly pouty when forced to wear clothes (especially costumes). He’s super cuddly and always want to be snuggled up to his parents, so much so that he gets to sleep in between them in (under the covers!) at night. His nickname around his friends is ‘King Wing’ because he’s a pretty spoiled only child, but those big brown eyes are pretty hard to resist!

He lives around VA Square, so if you see him out on a walk (he’s rather unmistakable) be sure to stop and say hi!
